Yet, every strategy seems to have a counter. Mass marines get slaughtered by templar, reavers, and lurkers. The rather pathetic strategy newbies love - cruisers and carriers- get wiped out by scourge, scouts, wraiths, hydras…well, anything that can shoot at them. And if you’re Canadian-then you don’t really have a hope no matter what you do. Yet, the search continues, but every strategy has had a weak point. Until now. I have found a Terran strategy that strikes fear into your opponents. One that will have them begging for mercy.
The Medic-Peon swarm of death.
The staregy was this- build groups and groups of scvs, back them up with 1 medic per 3 or 4 scvs, and, using very good attack placement, let them attack. Having thought of the strategy, I decided to take an attempt on using it on a real opponent. But, I can’t find any games except for Hunters variations. Wow, what a surprise. Finally I decide to attract a real player the only way possible in today’s hunter dominated society- “1v1 newbies on challenger” (I’m not a newbie, but half the people who enter newbie games aren’t either, so it was my best hope) Ten seconds later, [N-O]Rvm_1945 joined and the game begins.
GAME 1. (First Blood)
Having called 15 minute no rush, I decide for a different build than normal. I build two depots, then start a barracks as soon as I can. Soon, the academy goes up and I start producing medics out of three barracks. In the meantime, I finally remember to scout, and send out Deon to look for my opponents strategy- seeing a gleaming nexus, and a 1st gateway just warping in, I decide to build a offensive refinery to buy myself a bit of time.
Then, Deon retreats and starts building CC’s next to all of the islands, to expand as fast a s I can. Soon, I am pulling in minerals from all four islands and my main, when his first attack comes. One shuttle tries to expand to his island, by his base, but turrets shoot it down before it can land anything. Then, a shuttle drops two dragoons on the middle island nearer to him-I start cursing, he chose the one island I had no medics on, and only 4 scvs. I decide to start building them as fast as I can, and start microing them for all they’re worth.
One dragoon dies after only one scv is left, and with reinforcements from my CC, the two goons and the shuttle are destroyed. Not having been idle, I take a control group of medic/peons and charge an expansion of 1945’s I had discovered. Their first real battle ahead, the scvs bloodthirsty roars can be heard as far as five feet away. (the damn construction suit really dampens the sound) They approach the nexus, and burst into the mineral line. The 6 probes die with only one loss because of bad placement of medics, and the nexus is fusion cutter to death by the scvs. Encouraged by their success, the ssend for backup, and 5 control groups of medic peons start charging his main, his last base, with their armor upgraded, the scvs are ready to kill. Suddenly, 1945 sends me a message.
“My dad is pissed at me, cu”
And promptly quits the game. The Scvs, happy of their victory over the cowardly protoss, party all around the map, not realizing the battle is not yet won. I knew the enemy would be back.
Final score-Tercal-35836 1945-35104
Game 2 (Return of the Protoss, and I lose my main)
The Protoss return shortly, under the leadership of dEAdMAN23. His 130-68 record proves he isn’t quite a newbie, but hey, neither am i. The plan goes the same as before, only scans reveal that he has gotten reavers……damn, not sure how to kill those with scvs…with 5 bases mining, I prepare to start massing troops from 6 CC’s and 5 barracks…when 4 dts charge into my base. I forgot to put up turrets over most my base. My sad numbers of only 12 scvs and 6 medics fall before the mighty cloaked warriors, although with help from comsat and upgrades, 2 are taken out during the assault. I innocently ask him “why aren’t my medics hurting you?” He fails to see the joke, and says that they cant attack. Oh really. I wouldn’t have guessed. Fleeing my remaining troops via drop ship to my islands, I vow that the medics will return. He says he keep it in mind. The scare tactics of the dreaded medic drop seemed to work- 5 seconds later, the Waiting for players screen show up, and he is dropped from the game. The Medic-peon army celebrates the victory, proving that despite horrible losses they can still scare any opponent into submission.
Game 3 (I lose my main again, and the flying medics come to the rescue)
Knowing that the protoss were beaten back, all that remained was the zerg. I discovered the cerebrate {TM}assassin, and prepared for battle. My 15 minute rush rule was agreed on, and we began. Around the time I finish my barracks, which I decided to build first, I hear a warning signal-my scouting scv had encountered a pack of zerglings coming toward my base. They ignore my scv and continue on…cursing my trust of the lying cerebrate, I prepare to micro my 10 scvs at my base to victory. The zerg come, and all 6 die with only 1 scv lost. They return to mining. Another 6 zerg rush comes, and while they try to hit my barracks, my scvs kill them all flawlessly. He has not yet realized that in the 5 minutes I have had a barracks, I still have no marines….maybe im trying a different strategy. At this point, the cerebrate reveals his true nature to me…”haha, im no newbie” wow, I hadn’t guessed. He then warns me of the hydras that are coming. I begin to worry…I still have no medics, the rush lost me mining time. I scramble to repair my barracks and produce an army. I also rush to expand, vowing not to lose to the pathetic zerg rush.
5 minutes later. Still no hydras. I have 3 bases up, and the 2 islands are faring well, I having spent most of my resources working on them. Finally, the zerg arrive…
10 scvs+3 medics(amazingly enough)>7 hydras
With only small loses, I begin to laugh at him….maybe he is a newbie. Another group, of 8 hydras come, and they too fall before the power of the medic-peon army. A third attack, moments later, makes him say “gg” for the 5th time so far this game, and he may actually be right this time. Sure…he hasn’t realized I expanded twice, and both bases have massive amounts of resources being collected. By main goes down to multiple waves of attackers, and only my CC manages to survive to float away to the side of my base, over the water where he cant find it. He spends 10 minutes complaing he cant find my building, that its not on the land….finally, he realizes I CAN FLY and Assassin decides to build mutas. Wow, the 30 minute muta rush, how amazing
He takes out my Flying CC and then says gg…(6 times)…then flys his remaing troops into one base----Also known as the 10 missle turret defense. (Cheesy, but I needed it to survive. 2 waves of 10-15 mutas later, he realizes that he needs different units. He says gg before each failed attack, and finally my medics had had enough. The decide the need a new plan. The medics decide to take to their air. I begin my starport.
THE MEDICS STRIKE BACK (now in wraiths)
My limited building space forces me to have 5 flying CC’s in one area to provide supply for massive medic peon wraith armies. Most my other buildings are also airborne, and I have little room left. My two bases have 10 turrets each, excessive, but necessary against the macro master I was playing. Wraiths, out of only 1 Starport (only have room for one) amass until there are 10 of them. Fighting of wave after wave of guardians/devourers/mutas, assassin showing the worst micro skills ever, 6 easily replaced wraiths are lost, to over 50 of assassins units (ouch) realizing he must be hurting or cash, I decide to check his main. No more minerals there. I check every resources spot in the map. He had no expansion at any of them. Finally, I realize- only one spot left. My old main. I vow to exterminate him, and send 10 wraiths out to kill. I realize I must strike while I still can, and set out to kill. Two hatcheries and 15 drones later, his defenseless base is destroyed with only a few drones escaping. He had 0 defense at the base. Suddenly a huge swarm of 20 odd mutas attack my newest expansion I had just started. My wraiths come in cloaked as back up, and all the Mutas are lost, for only 1 CC, 4 probes, 3 turrets and 3 wraiths. Finally, he says gg. This time he realizes he has lost though…only 1 expansion remains, and he has no defense at his main, where all his buildings are. Even un-upgraded wraiths hit for a lot in groups of 12, and his building begin to explode.
He still has a surprise though. He asked to ally. I said no. He said it wasn’t fair.
Now think back….who rushed who 4 times? In a no rush game? I normally wouldn’t mind, but the repeated gg’s had been too much. He also uses the “my dad god mad at me” excuse. I continue to merrily destroy buildings while brignign scvs over in dropships to finish off his hydras. Finally, as I vaporize all his buildings, he pulls out his trump card- “If I lose any more I cant get into this clan” Damn. Sympathy starting to come now…I still hate him for his cheesy newbie tactics, but decide I have to show some mercy on the self proclaimed “non-newbie”. I share vision, finish his buildings, then ally. As he flees back to his Nice easy hunter maps where strategy cant hurt him anymore, my scvs finally realize that they have conquered all.
Final scores. Me-119260
Him-93479
Although not quite invincible, the medic armies were able to stall for a long time if nothing else. The hydra drops I didn’t bother to mention were massacred by the medic peon power. They do have a weakness though- rushers and cloaked units. Although both can be compensated for, it makes the strategy weaker. Oh well. Someday, I will find a perfect strategy. In any case, this strategy will retire undefeated, with a 3-0 record
Also, as a side note, if anyone named {TM}assassin shows up trying to join your clan, take my advice. He is a newbie. Not a horrible newbie, but somewhere in between. Check to see if he’s gotten smarter from his loss to the peons.
(I apologize on only one count. The screen shot of the hordes of medic-peons charging towards the protoss didn’t take. DAMN!!!!!)
| | Battle Shots! | Even without medic backup, u can see that scvs own dragoons
The Protoss expansion falls to the unstoppable juggernaught of medics and scvs
 Yeah! You run away!
This looks like im losing, but all those hydras die in about 4 seconds, to only about 3 scvs....micro skills reign supreme again
After by base died, i was forced to turtle with turrets...i apologize. (think 10 turrets times 3 bases equal=stupid!!!)
