Map: Challenger
Me: Picked Terran (top position)
Him: Picked Protoss (bottom position)
Well I didn't figure out this guy was a newbie until a little bit into the game. We both do normal builds and my SCV scout finds two gateways, so I'm thinking Zealot rush all the way. I wall off my buildings and rally Marines to inside the wall. I also get early gas and a factory. I'm expecting the Zealots any minute now, but they never arrive.
So I sit around building up a decent Terran force of 16 Marines and 6 Tanks. I decide to move out. My point marine ends up running into a group of zealots, which realize I'm on my way, so they move up to intercept me. I decided not to siege so I let marines and unsieged tanks fight it out with the zealots. I killed off many zealots but reinforcements kept coming...and coming...and coming...and still coming. Eventually my guys die. I'm thinking the guy must be making nothing but zealots back there.
I get another marine-and-tank force together and decide to move out again. I run into zealots, again, in the exact same spot I left them the first time. Again my squad dies to many many zealots. This is getting annoying. I decide to start making vultures out of my factories now to combat this guy. I should have done it a while ago, but I never expected him to go hardcore zealots. Anyway...
I send a single vulture scout to his main. Many zealots ran after it (hehe) but it's too fast for them. In his main, I see a bunch of pylons and a few gateways. No Photon cannons, and no gas.
At this point he decides to get very brave and attack with (surprise!) zealots. All of them die horribly to vultures, marines, and tanks. He also sent a couple probes with his attack force. I guessed maybe he was going to try offensive cannoning, but no. He was trying to attack with them. A couple minutes later, more zealots attack, with even more horrible results.
I now decide it's time to attack. I send my 20 marines, 16 vultures, and 6 tanks to his base, where I find...no resistance whatsoever. His main is completely mined out of minerals, and his probes are just standing around. I decide to strike up a bit of conversation with this guy, since there had been none during the game.
Me: "I have never seen such a one-dimensional player."
Him: "hehe"
Me: "I guess someone told you zealots were good?"
Him: "Strong."
Me: "Guess what's stronger."
Him: "Stronger than marines."
Me: "But not stronger than marines, tanks, and vultures."
At the resource screen at the end of the game, he had mined 12,050 minerals. That is how much you start with on Challenger. So he never expanded either. I could have killed him with 1 wraith if I wanted to.
Just when you think you've seen it all, along comes a newbie to show that you haven't. |
