Opening Look, Player Stats

This report is on a PvT, 1v1 that happened on the map Black Vane, and Black Vane isn't another name for Lost Temple. Both players are of decent skill, and provided a very entertaining game.

Fish-N-Chips: A protoss player who likes to drop anything he can get his hands on, zealots, goons, reavers, high temps, dt's, archons--- you name it he's dropped it (yes, probes too). He is the better of the two contenders but gets contained rather easily.

Terrorific: The terran player, and headmaster of SCU (starcraft university). Not as good as Fish, he relies on guile, expoing like a whore, and the brute force of heavy metal. TerranNavel has already done a Battle Report with him in it, and I hope this is better.

So sit back and enjoy a non-temple non-gosu game, while thinking about how bad you'll flame this first timer in the responses in the end.

The Game

After the conflict over Aiur, leaving the lost temple and many other parts of Aiur destroyed, a force of the UED crash lands on a waste land covered in black ash. The force scans the area, and are relived that there is no zerg infestation.

The fleeing protoss senses the UED on a nearby planet, and Templar Commander Fish orders a landing upon the wasteland, seeking revenge. The warships land and the bloodthirsty warriors go into the nearly berserk sort of mind that allows them to access the myriad psionic fields.

As Terran Commander Terrorific looks on as the warships land, he fears the worst. Yelling to second in command the terran begin strapping on their guns and cleaning out the tanks. They can only look on and wait for the bloody battle soon to come...

The game starts as Terror spawns orange terran at 12 o clock, and Fish spawning yellow toss at 6.

The build orders were natural: Fish goes pylon 8/9, gate 11/17, core, and another gate. Terror: goes for a classic pvt wall-in using a barracks and supply depot effectively shutting off his main. Both players find each other late, and no rush occurs, as both players tech up for the heated battle.

Fish waits a while to get gas, which makes his core useless for a while as he amasses enough gas to get goons and tech up further, and gets a zealot instead to fend off pesky SCV scouts. Meanwhile Terror plops down a factory then a starport instead of a usual double factory planning to drop Fish early.

Fish is also planning for a drop, not producing a single goon until he gets 200 gas, when he warps in a robotics factory followed by a nexus at the gas/mineral expansion right above him (not his natural), so he can pump up his war machine. He also puts down a forge too, upgrading earlier then his terran opponent. Terror hasn't been sitting idle, as he takes his min only expansion. Terror: wins the race, getting his dropship and two tanks loaded onto it. Fish also gets a shuttle, but Terror is the first to act, zooming to Fish's base to siege his natural.

The tanks kill 3 probes and one goon before being chased away by a zealot. Fish prepares for his drop, a reaver drop (un-upgraded damage) while Terror circles around scouting for a place to drop to wreak more havoc. The dropship finds another place to drop, right behind Fish's main mineral line. Killing some probes who clung to the nexus for dear life, as if it was a beacon to the after life, the tanks again retreat before facing a mighty reaver who uses another life form to attack for it.

Fish looks for revenge, and finds Terror's main mineral line guarded by 2 missile turrets. The shuttle rushes in and drops the reaver, sacrificing its life for the greater glory. The reaver destroys all but two of the scv's, and then makes scrap metal out of the turrets in the shuttles memory. The reaver is taken care of by late to the scene tanks. Terror informed me that the warning was late, but he managed to keep his cool. Fish sees this as an opportunity to attack, and sends in his 6 goons. Meanwhile, Terror has been in a large hurt for gas ever since making the mistake to expand to the min only natural. Terror remedies this by expanding to the gas/mineral expansion below his main.

The goons meet with five tanks at Terror's new expo. The goons are able to kill 2 tanks and do damage to the CC before being reduced into blue soup. Back at Fish's base a reaver in the reincarnated shuttle fly off to look for a fight. Bad micro by Fishlands the reaver right into a pile of tanks, which get a few words from Fish.

Fish has finally built a templar archive, and sends his 11 0/0/1 goons and 1 zealot to put Terror in a resource hole. The forces find tanks hidden behind a factory, and are only able to kill a couple before the forces die for Aiur. Fish then takes his mineral only expansion.

Terror goes on the offensive now, parking his 0/0 tank force right above Fish's gas/mineral expansion. As seiging commences, a posse of zealots and goons kill the group. Terror reinforces the attack and the forces of his collide again with a goon/archon 1/0/1(armor/shield/weapon) army.

A first assault is launched by terror and his forces prove too powerful over Fish, and are able to take firm control over the choke point to Fish's base. Fish switches to zealots to combat the tanks, but bad rallying causes him to lose 3. Terror uses the containment to his advantage, expanding to the 9 o clock area. Another wave of zealots and archons attack, and the battle the starts reduces the tank force too 3, but is quickly reinforced, and the containment holds.

Fish continues to push out with zealots and storm, saving his archons, but he can't seem to break the hold as more and more tanks arrive to help. Then, Fish remembers the shuttle that he put on the ridge overlooking Terror's main. Terror, concentrating on his attack, only left on tank to defend his main. The zealots are dropped and they make quick work of the lone defender. The zealots go on a rampage destroying 3 machine shops, 2 supply depots, and one academy.

Fish, meanwhile, has built up a very large force of zealots and archons. Busting out of the containment the forces keep flowing from Fish's gateways into Terror's expos, except the one at 9 o clock. The forces destroy two and severely damage another before being fought back. Fish again drops into Terror's main, and Terror is as unprepared as last time. The zealots rip through and are able to kill a factory. Terror now switches to vultures, a more effective counter to the zealot swarm. Vultures, even upgraded like they are, prove to be the key.

Terror launches attack on Fish's only mineral area left, and is fought back bravely... until the superior resources of Terror prove to be too much for Fish. Fish, not being successful at pulling more money out of his ass, and having 30 vultures marching down his main in victory, resigns.

Lessons Learned

1) Speedy Zealots defeat tanks, and vultures beat zealots (for all you newbies out there)
2) Don't forget to defend your mineral line well
3) Don't drop a reaver into a tank pile
4) Always upgrade. Even though the winner didn't this game

What could have been and My Opinions

Terror would have won easier if he had upgraded. If Fish would have gone straight zealot he might have had a better chance also to break out of the containment more. Fish needed to expand more too; he was in too big of a hole climb out of.

I believe that the 9 o clock expo was the game breaker; this is where Terror rebuilt his base.
