| One of my first games back | | | Author: | | | IP: | static24XXXX | | Date: | 07/20/01 10:07 | | Game Type: | Starcraft | | Labels: | none | | Report Rating: , # of Ratings: 1, Max: 6, Min: 6 Lifetime Rating for Raging~Kozak: 5.6250 | | I used to frequent this site almost everyday but then I got too busy with school and work to play BW and SC. I am back now (gone for about a year so skills are all but gone) but none of you really care about that anyway, so on to a report of one of my first games back.(Bare with me, this is going to be an all text report, "hears the gasp from the crowd like what is that"). I'm doing this by memory so I may miss a few details.
Pregame
I searched the public games because there was noone in NoHunters and found a one vs one game on lost temple. I joined and about two seconds later the creater named lioneater. This battlereport will be from my perspective since I don't have godly shared vision on all my opponents.
Setup
I, Raging~Kozak grew in as the foul "its just gas" zerg in the 9:00 position. I proceeded to send my drones to work and sent my overlord to 6:00.
In a stroke of luck I found lioneater in the 6:00 position as terran. He was mining away and starting a wall in at the base of his ramp. I decided that I had seen enough for now and told my overlord to hightail it back to my base before a marine showed up.
I proceeded to a 10/9 build with a pool soon coming after and a new hatch at my choke at about 13. I kept pumping drones the whole time getting some gas and decided to send a few zerglings out to see what was going on. Once my first four zerglings were hatched, I sent them to scout and started a hydra den with evolution chamber.
First contact
Lioneater had sent a lowly SCV to scout my base. I had my four new zerglings rudely dispatch of the SCV and then proceed towards lioneater's base to see if I could cause any mischief. Turns out that my opponents wall-in was finished so I pulled the zerglings back to his natural to be left as scouts.
Back home, I decided to throw up a couple of creep colonies near my ramp and to start lair in preparation for teching. At about this time, my scouting zerglings were killed by a force of about 10 marines and 3 medics from lioneater. I looked and my base and almost crapped my pants since I didn't have any defense setup.
To prepare for the oncoming attack, I turned my creep colonies into sunkens and hatched four hydras. I layed down another hatch and started the lurker upgrade as soon as it was avaliable. In addition, I started on the transport upgrade so that I could expand to the islands and upgraded my hydras along the way.
Lioneater came with his prementioned attack force and a couple died to the sunkens which had just finished growing in. Instead of trying a full frontal assault, lioneater decided to pull back and contain me. At this time I think that he expanded to his natural (which I didn't find till later).
Midgame
My lurker and transporting tech finally finished, so I morphed my original four hydras into lurkers. I decided that when these lurkers were done it was time to attack so I hatched about ten more hydras and layed done another hatch.
My lurkers now finished, I loaded up three overlords of units to go to his base and sent a drone to start an expansion on the island. I dropped my lurkers on the outside of his base to find an almost unprotected peon line. I quickly burrowed the lurkers near the peons and let the destruction begin. All was going well until lioneater brought in some medamarines which killed my supporting hydras and one lurker, dying in the process. I thought no big deal and proceeded to destroy his buildings with my burrowed denizens when a science vessel shows up. It proceeded to kill my last few lurkers with some nuclear medicine but I was happy with the damage I had done. I had destroyed his command center, two barracks (out of eight YIKES), almost all his SCV's, his comsat, and a few other tech buildings.
I had not been lazy at home however and had a force of about 15-20 hydras with two lurkers for company. I layed down a spire and had researched overlord speed. I sent my force to destroy lioneater's containment force and turned to get my expansion going. Silently I cursed my own stupidity, as I had sent my overlord right over the lioneater's waiting marines.
Pissed off, I started two expansions simutaneosly at my natural and the 11:00 island. This was just in time as my starting base was just going dry. At the same time I decided to test the front door with my force of about ten hydras and three lutkers. I found some stiff resistance with science vessels, two bunkers, and a bunch of marines at his natural. I did loose my whole force fighting but managed to kill all his marines, the two bunkers and about 1/3 of his SCV's.
I decided that I should expand again to the 3:00 start to make sure the game was in the bag when I looked back at my base and saw that with everything going on, I had slacked off producing units (stupid rusty mistake). This game should have been over but this oversight was used by lioneater most effectively.
Lioneater dropped about two dropships full of medamarines on my main with three science vessels for support. I wasn't prepared for this attack and lost my entire tech tree and almost my entire main. Lioneater then made a bizarre move by saying gg to me as if he had won. I brought all the hydras I had left from my natural and managed to save a measly one hatch, my depleted gas extractor, and an evolution chamber.
Late Game
Well we are now both battered and bruised and lioneater trys to put the final stake in my heart by sending small attack forces to destroy my island base and my 3:00 expansion. Since I have a very low troop count and my natural and main are really the only bases protected, I have to let these expansions go.
Not giving up, I start a new expansion at the 12:00 start and begin rebuilding my tech tree. Once I build about 10-15 hydras, I take them and the four lurkers from my natural and drop his main again. It is defended by a medium size force, but with a little micro I draw his marines over my lurkers and even get a few science vessels. It was a heated battle and I ended up finishing with only two lurkers left to raze his main. While I'm destroying his main I send a newly built force of about fifteen hydras at his natural to cover expanding to the 12:00 natural.
I razed his entire main which encluded pretty much his entire tech tree. My lurkers and fifteen hydras died soon after trying to destroy his natural but the damage was done. I continued to build hydras until I had a sizable force and then attacked his natural with about 25-30 hydras. I razed the base to the ground and figured it was over.
When the victory screen didn't come up I loaded up another force and headed for the 5:00 island. I found his last expansion there with nothing but some burning buildings to destroy. Lioneater asked for shared vision, so I let him have a look. We played cat and mouse for a while with his last building but soon that was gone too. I sent a gg his way to which he replyed "whatever". I guess he was a little bitter that destroying my main wasn't the end of the game.
Lessons Learned
1) Never give up. The game is only over when your last building dies.
2) Always build units at home no matter what you are doing. This game would have been a lot shorter if I had done that.
3) Don't take a year off, you will NOT be able to play when you come back.
Thank you for reading my battlereport, and I hope that there are more to enjoy in the future. This was an entertaining game for me and it put my old rusty skills to the test. Hopefully I will keep getting better and will see some of you in the channels. Until then, take it easy and remember "One drunk Ukrainian can do anything".
