Introduction
Well, It was about 3:30 AM and none of my friends were on and all the channels that I hang out in were either dead or full of Koreans who couldn’t speak English. I went searching through public games as the occasional pubbie Vs a Korean was pretty good. I headed for the first 1:1 game which had a name full of funky symbols and 1:1 on it =P
I was greeted immediately with a “hihi ^^” from a fellow(or fellowess) named Reonia2001 and not knowing how to speak Korean, I used their own b.net language and replied with a “hihi ^^” quickly followed by a “gogogogo”
The beeping sounds of the countdown echoed through my headphones(didn’t wanna wake the parents!)
Getting Ready To Rrrrrrrrrrr.....Awe forget it
Map: Lost Temple(I know I know, enough with temple already! I hate it too)
Combatants:
Ceridan(me) as randomed brown zerg at 6:00 position
Reonia2001 as randomed blue toss at 9:00 position
Lets Get The Party Started
We both did a decent job of cloning our peons(for 3:30 AM anyways). Me being the stupid copycatter that I am, I sent my OL to the spot closest to me, 9:00.
I had already started my usual zerg build of 10/9 OL not far from starting my 10/17 hatch when I noticed he was protoss, fearing a powerful zealot rusher I started my spawning pool right away instead of making hatchery. Shortly after I started my hatchery at 12.
Reonia went with a pretty standard 8 Pylon, scout with probe, 10 gateway, 11 gateway, 11 zealot, 13 pylon build which seemed like a decent zealot rush build assuring me that what I had done was the smart move.
Reonia’s probe was being a nuisance in my mineral line until I started chasing it around with zerglings. The thing just wouldn’t stay still until I flanked it, killing it instantly. Afterwards I started my extractor, going for hydra/ling.
At this point Reonia had finished his 2nd gateway and pylon with a complete assimilator. He also had 4 zealots at his ramp meaning no free probe killing for me.
My minerals started to accumulate a bit so I sent a drone to my natural to expand, my nat was defended by 12 zerglings in a flanking position. I started pumping drones out of my 2 hatcheries and sent 3 drones to collect gas. My overlords scouted that Reonia had a cybernetics core so I flew the 2 overlords that were watching him away, 1 to the cliff at his nat and the other along the rim of my base to spot for drops.
After collecting 50 gas I started a hydra den, sticking with my hydraling plan. I then maynarded 4 drones to my natural, leaving 9 at my main. Seeing as how hydra dens build very fast, mine had just popped up and I started upgrading hydralisk speed. I then began producing drones out of the hatchery at my nat and hydras out of the 2 hatcheries at home.
Now a 2nd scouting probe tried to scout me, luckily my hydras killed it before it even got passed my nat. I started to upgrade ling speed and shortly after, began my lair upgrade.
It’s quiet…a little TOO quiet
I started an extractor at my nat as I would need upgrades soon. I had also started hydralisk range.
It seems I haven’t mentioned our friend Reonia for awhile, and what has he been up to? He’s managed to tech up to High Templars with psi storm, oh my, seems hydras will be dodging electrified dodge balls sooner than expected.
Seeing as my hydra range upgrade was nearly complete I decided to make the first move and sent my sizable hydraling force to attack Reonia. Surprisingly, that was the exact same moment he decided to emerge from his main and both of our forces collided in his mineral only.
Reonia retreated his forces back to his natural, obviously trying to clump my hydras together for easier storming within his choke, he also had a probe there telling me that he was planning to expand soon. I managed to kill his high templars but Reonia still had about 6 zealots left after some nifty storming that managed to kill a lot of my force. Reonia had started a pylon that I saw before my last unit died. Near the end of the battle I had started a hatchery at my mineral only, I had also started overlord speed during the battle.
I sent a small scout squad of 8 hydras to Reonia’s nat to see what kind of stuff was going on in it. Unfortunately he had zealots there, but feeling threatened by my micro not allowing his zealots to get in much for hits, he ran them back. Seeing my opening, I began focus firing on the nexus that was warping in, forcing Reonia to cancel it and destroyed the pylon there before the cannon on the cliff warped in and Reonia’s zealots rushed in. This forced me to retreat.
Reonia followed my hydras right back to my mineral only expansion, which has yet to finish and noticing a decent force of lings with a small number of hydras, he retreated north. Reonia suddenly turned his zealots around, obviously not noticing the size of my force and began fighting again. That’s when he noticed the true force of my army and began fleeing north once again. I was unable to catch any of his speed-upgraded zealots so I move my blood thirsty lings back to my mineral only for a little nap. Though they wouldn’t be sleeping for long.
Silence isn’t entirely golden
My mineral only FINALLY finished and I maynarded about 7 or 8 drones to it, leaving me with 9-10 in my main and about the same number in my nat. I then began a 5th hatch at my mineral only.
I sent a drone to his mineral only to see if he had expanded outward at all yet and seeing nothing, I raced the drone to the 3:00 natural for another expansion. During this time, my overlords hit puberty and their sacs enlarged allowing them to carry units in them, like wow man.
I loaded up 3 overlords with hydras and headed to Reonia’s main nexus in hopes of destroying it. A cannon and a templar were defending it. Due to the fact that it was 3:45 AM(that’s my excuse, cut me some slack) I did this poorly and lots 4 hydras to his defense and began focus firing on his nexus only to have my fun spoiled by zealots and dragoons. Seeing as it was pointless to continue, I loaded the remaining hydras back into the overlords and flew away.
Lurker Aspect had also just finished upgrading and I started to make 8 lurkers because that was all my gas would allow. While the combat at Reonia’s nexus was still going on, I sent the 8 fresh lurkers to his natural to wreak some havoc, alas, it was never meant to be. He had a cannon with light defense there and he also had cliff cannons so I wasn’t about to waste 8 lurkers on something such as that, I began to spread them out in his mineral only to contain him and force him to get observers.
Fear the bunnies that go RaWr…err…Update time
At this moment I have my natural and my mineral only, the drone, which I sent to expand at 3’s natural, was killed by a zealot and I have him contained with 8 lurkers. I have 4 hatcheries and a lair turning into a hive, which for those of you who never learned basic math *coughDinoDincough* that’s 5 production buildings.
Reonia is being contained and is limited to only his natural with no mobile detection. He has 5 gateways making units and a large zealot force with a couple templars and a goon here and there for flavor.
And Back To Getting Lost in the Temple
I now send 2 drones to the 3:00 main and natural to expand(no seriously, I’m going to this time) but the one at the main is killed by the zealot while the one at the nat successfully starts morphing into a hatchery. Getting tired of that pesky zealot, I sent 12 zerglings to take very good care of him…yeah…that’s it…great care of him.
My hive finished and I started adrenal gland upgrades and an ultralisk carvern. Reonia obviously now has observers as he is storming my lurkers perfectly, killing 2 in 2 storms, guess I need to improve on my spacing eh?
After killing 6 of them with storm Reonia rushed out of his base with zealots straight towards my 3:00 expand, only to be flanked by a swarm of sexy hydralisks and gorgeous zerglings. I pushed him back to his natural but because it was 3:50 AM(I’m sticking with that excuse) I microd poorly, causing me to lose that battle when I could have easily crushed Reonia
Reonia obviously figured that I had lost all of my troops and rushed to my 3:00 natural again in hopes of killing it. He killed the hatchery but I soon after my hydra/muta/ling force arrived, nullifying the threat, I then made a drone out of the larvae there intent on getting that expansion.
Preparing for the final battle
I had massed a decent sized force of mutas with 1 mission, get him to waste his psy storms or assassinate his high templar. Mission accomplished, he had wasted all his stormed on my mutas, killing them all, but allowing me to have a large advantage in the battle to follow.
Ooo, lookit me, I’m a zergy, I’m gonna attack move without any micro and win!
I then rammed my hydra/ling force into his fresh out of the oven(warpgate?) mineral only, seeing as he had no storm and I outnumbered him, he couldn’t possibly stop this…or could he?
Reonia, believe it or not, had enough of a zealot/archon force to stop this attack, however, I’m all for crushing people’s hopes and dreams so I just ran another force into him, in response to this, he left, go me.
