Then, the game on Lost Temple commenced!
-Flathead-, afraid of getting a bad matcup if he chose race, went random and drew Protoss. -Flathead- continued by thinking this game was really gonna suck, because his opponent, Conjurer, picked Zerg at the last second. This was -Flathead-'s weakest matchup for several reasons. At least Conjurer didn't know yet...
-Flathead- went with a 2 gate, zealots early opening, and warped in at the top starting position, while Conjurer opted for an early double hatch at his gimme, setting up shop at the 9 o'clock start. An early overlord spotted the Protoss base, and when the cover of random was blown, -Flathead- sent a probe down do confirm that the dreaded 2-hatch had in fact taken place.
Trying for an early end to it, -Flathead- sent the first two zealots out of the gateways to meet with the spreading creep. Already there was one sunken and one creep colony morphing, so both went to work on the sunken. Unfortunately, one zealot was dead and one injured when the next sunken morphed, and it took out the early attack. As the fog of war faded away from the area, -Flathead- caught a glimpse of the expansion hatch morphing into a Lair. Thinking that Conjurer was going muties, he quickly erected a cyb core, then citadel, while expanding to his own natural and putting up a third gateway. Zealots were still the order of the day, and he gleefully qued up more and more as the expansion was coming online and the tmep archives warped. Psi-storm research had begun in earnest.
Having 12 zealots more and 4 dragoons qued, -Flathead- decided to push the issue and see if Conjurer had overbuilt sunkens or teched. As the lead of the zealot army approached, four sunkens lit up and -Flathead- saw a Lurker just popping behind one of them. It shook, then burrowed, at which point -Flathead retreated his forces a safe distance.
-Flathead-'s heart leaped into his throat at this point, as there was a forge, but no cannons at his base. There simply wasn't time for a successful cannon warp before those buggers showed up. As the 3 lurkers (thank God there were 3 and not 4 or 5) approached, the zealots headed on a straight line back to base, and 4 dragoons popped. Psi-storm research was half done.
the 4 dragoons were set to attack the lead lurker, and headed off to their task. Just before the dragoons engaged, the 12 zealots turned around and attacked the trailing lurkers. Caught by surprise, 2 of the three lurkers died before any reaction, and the third died just as it was burrowing. LOL!!!!!!!!! Lull him into a sense of security, then surprise him by attacking with the WRONG units. hehehehehehehe.
2 more gateways warped, to bring the total to 6. Also warped in after this resounding battle won were a rob. facility and the observatory, in case the evil Zerg continued on this cloaked attack style. As the first of 6 or 7 high templar warped, -Flathead- breathed a slight sigh of relief. He had lots of zealots, more and more dragoons were coming, and psi-storm research had just finished. The leg upgrades were done and units were upgraded to 1/0/1.
People being creatures of habit, -Flathead- embarked on an experiment to see if his opponent had burrowed his defensive lurkers in the same spot as they were before; right behind the sunkens. Psi-storm attacks were cloned from two Templars, one behind each of the lead sunken colonies. Each sunken got one or two whacks off at each templar, but neither were killed and three lurkers were popped by two storms. -Flathead- squealed with glee as 24 zealots, backed by 12 dragoons, marched into the zerg town, with an observer and a few templari in tow. The expansion went down in a crackling of blue flame. Many many of the zealots lost their lives for Aiur on this day, marching into the teeth of the evil sunken colonies. However, this allowed the Templari to use storm to it's fullest until all of the offending hydras, zerglings, and sunkens were dead. Then -Flathead- merged the templari and qued up more at each of the 6 gateways. Alas, these troops wer not needed, as most of the expansions were coverd with silent observers and the evil Zerg had been corraled to his last base. The leftover 8 or 9 dragoons and 3 newly warped archons were the troops required to finish the battle.
Lessons learned:
-Don't get caught with your pants down and no detection against a sunken, then lurker zerg.
-If you do get caught with your pants down, you're either going to get creative, or you'll probably lose.
-Get to psi-storm as soon as possible against zerg. Even if you can't detect, them lurkers still die to blue fire.
