Introduction
Hello there. As you may have noticed, this is my first battle report, so expect suckiness, and lots of it. I guess I should talk a little about myself. Well... I live in Quebec, I'm 15, I like to play SC and hang out with my friends whenever I get the chance. Ok, enough about me, onto the game!
Early Game
This is a 1on1 between CaraLYNN and lebman, which would be me. The map is, of course, the Lost Temple. CaraLYNN chose Terran, his prefered species, landing a shiny yellow command center at the 9 o'clock main, while I chose Zerg, which is my primary species, and spawned a slimmy white hatchery at the 6 o'clock main.
Ok, so we start out pretty close. These positions are usualy good for people who like to drop alot because of their close proximity. Now let's get on to the starting build orders
CaraLYNN: The terran commander decides to go for the well known m&m rush, building a supply depot at 9, his first barracks at 11 and his second barracks at 13. He, of course, keeps constant marine production. CaraLYNN follows up with a factory at 27, and academy at 28, researching stim as soon as it's done, and a starport at 32 supply.
lebman: I go for a pretty normal build, hoping to get a good early economy. I make an overlord at 9, followed by 12 hatch at my natural, 11 pool and an extractor not long after. I sunken up my natural, in fear of m&m. I morph my hatchery into a lair with my first 100 gas and I also make a sunken colony close to my main, just to be careful.
Meanwhile, CaraLYNN has been busy hunting down overlords on the border of my main while parking his m&m force close to my natural choke, waiting for his dropship to finish. As for me, my spire is done and I have started morphing 6 mutalisks. As they finish morphing, I begin a third hatchery at my ramp. Suddenly, I see a dropship arrive at the border of my base. M&M start dropping into my main and the dropship goes back to get the rest. They quickly dispose of the scouting overlord and a few of my mutas, while I run the rest to my base, quickly building a second sunken colony. CaraLYNN moves towards my ramp and starts attacking the 3rd hatchery, forcing me to cancel it. For some reason, the terran commander decides to leave me be and shuttles his m&m force back to the 9 o'clock main.
Mid Game
Back to the bases. CaraLYNN has finished his machine shop and is making a tank or two while researching siege mode. He has also built a third barracks and a science facility. He starts producing science vessels and researches irradiate. He also takes his natural expansion at the 10 minute mark, while bunkering up a little. At the 6 main, there is a third hatchery morphing (again) in while lurker aspect is being researched. I take the 3 main at the 11 minute mark.
I currently have 4 mutas, which will be exterminated in a few moments, 5 lurkers and 7 hydras in the middle and no upgrades other than hydralisk speed. CaraLYNN has 20 marines, 3 medics a tank and a bunker guarding his natural. His marines are 0/1 in upgrades.
The terran commander spots my expansion attempt and quickly sends a dropship filled with M&M to take it out before it's even done! Can you say BM? Nevertheless, I proceed to morph a hatchery at my mineral only... let's see him take that out! I also start researching overlord speed.
My terran opponent grows tired of waiting and takes everything he's got, which now consists of 2 extra tanks and 2 science vessels, and heads out for my main base, while passing behind the south western temple wall. My main force, 1 control group of hydras and 7 lurkers are in the middle, and I decide to keep them there, hoping to flank him. I am also morphing 7 more lurkers at my natural choke.
The terran commander arrives at the open space in front of my main base and proceeds to take out my freshly morphed hatchery! @&#%^@!*, I say to myself. Ok, so CaraLYNN sieges his tanks, and simply sits there with his marines nearby. I take advantage of it to get as many units as possible. Choosing the time to be right, I send my hydralisks and lurkers in a pincer move. Maybe the SC Gods like me or I somehow became half decent at flanking, but the units actualy arrived at the perfect moment, cool huh? Also, by some stroke of even more luck, CaraLYNN had just unsieged his tanks, giving me time to move in before I get blasted. The result is a rather firm victory for the zerg hive cluster. I even overheard a marine saying:
*lurkers burrow in front of marines*
Marine: Lurkers to the front, pfft, no problem, I'll just move back.
*Marine moves back while lurkers burrow behind him*
Marine: Lurkers to the back... Oh dear God, I'm screwed!!@^#^%@!~!
Ok, ok, maybe I exagerated a little bit, but it's a true story. :)
Anyway, back to the game. During the last battle I had taken the time to take the 3 natural expansion, which the terran commander tries to take out with some marines, the hatchery barely survives though and I build 3 sunken colonies to stop any more dumb marines trying to make my hatchery go bye-bye. What follows is a brief stalemate. CaraLYNN expands to his mineral only at the 16 minute mark. He currently has 5 barracks and 2 factories. I start researching ventral sacs a few seconds after he takes his mineral only and I also make another hatch in my main. Upgrades are currently 1/1 for CaraLYNN's marines and 0/0 for his tanks, while my hydra/lurk group is still at 0/0.
Late Game
After the brief stalemate, CaraLYNN starts pushing out of his main and towards the middle. He pushes, pushes and pushes until I am forced to retaliate. I try to flank him again but am forced to retreat back to my natural choke because of tank fire. I also expand to the 3 o'clock main while CaraLYNN expands to the 12 o'clock main. My terran opponent decides to send a contingent of m&m and a tank to take out my expansions at 3 o'clock. During this time, I prepare to drop the terran main, hoping the terran commander would be forced to pull back. I load up 6 lurkers and 8 hydralisks into my overlords and head towards the terran main. I am able to take out a few marines and tanks and I also destroy his science facility and starport. Although I didn't destroy alot of stuff, the drop was a success since CaraLYNN had to move back his tanks so he could destroy my remaining lurkers.
CaraLYNN tries to move closer to my base, but without the majority of his tanks, he cannot take on what remains of my force, consisting of a little over a group of hydras and 9 lurkers, which are placed under the south eastern temple wall. I flank the terran commander yet again, taking out a few tanks and maybe a group of marines while I lose maybe 10 hydralisks.
Seeing this as an opportunity to finally get out in the open, I keep pushing to the middle, meeting some resistance here and there, which are dealt with swiftly. We both stay calm for a moment, building up our forces. A scouting hydralisk reveals the 12 o'clock expansion. Under the pressure of the terran opposition, I order my hydralisks and lurkers to move in and take out the expansion, which is now guarded by some M&M, a tank and a science vessel. CaraLYNN sees this as an opportunity to take me out once and for all, and mobilises his force towards my main. What's left of my forces are quickly decimated and my opponent proceeds to raze what's left of my base.
GG!
Final Thoughts:
-Battle reporting isn't too easy. :)
-But it's fun!
-I should consider becoming funnier, sorry =(.
-It's hard not to be one-sided when you're one of the players, I know I haven't succeeded.
-Thank God no one can give me a 0 for this.
-Sorry about the yellow names.
