“Commander, commander, I have to show you something!” the man in the white lab coat said looking very excited about something or other. The man was thin and old with thinning gray hair; male pattern baldness had taken it’s toll with him.
The man who he was shouting at was a man who looked to be in his mid-fifties. He had a large build and a heavily meddled dark green uniform. His right arm cradled many red chevrons and looked very clean and neat.
The commander was adventurous in his marine days. He would do anything just for a few stim packs and medics willing to do anything for only a few credits.
But now he was a rather boring old man, not capable of doing anything besides ordering people around.
“What is it now, Reese?” the commander said annoyed. He took the fat cigar that was in his mouth and put it out on the steel table in front of him.
The scientist’s eyes widened happily. He then said in a voice that was chillingly quiet, “Specimens. Live ones…”
The commander rose out of his chair quickly and walked over to the scientist. He gestured for the commander to follow him, which he did.
It didn’t take long to reach the dark room, illuminated faintly by the green glow coming out of the two bubbling tubes in the center of the room. The commander was shocked when he saw what was in the tubes.
“My God… How did you…?” he asked awe-struck.
“They were taken in yesterday, still alive,” the scientist said happy with himself. Inside one of the tubes, floating in the bubbling liquid was a hideous monster. It was a Zerg. The commander was reminded of the scar on his chest. This type of Zerg was an acid-shooter. It had long blades sprouting from its arms and slithered in an upright position. The other had two smaller Zerg in it.
In front of the tubes were two screens with digits, charts statistics and other data. What was most noticeable, though, was a heart monitor in the upper-right corner of the two screens. The Zerg were alive.
“But how did you manage to… They’re alive? But how did-” just then the commander was shook by an explosion outside.
“Dixon! Status report! Now!” the commander shouted at the top of his lungs. It had been at least two years since the last major attack on this base and the commander was slightly worried his troops had lost battle skills. The kind of battle skills you can only learn from being on the field, not from the academy or barracks.
Dixon, a short man with dark blonde hair, a dark green military uniform and small circular hat seemed nervous to answer, intimidated by the commander. He then quickly looked down at a datapad in his hand.
“Uh, sir, it’s… uh… the Protoss, sir; they’ve taken out a bunker. Six of your men died in the blast sir…”
“Blast?!” the commander shouted furiously. “Are you telling me the Protoss have bombs?! My God…” The commander balled up his hands and sighed angrily. He quickly walked out of the room.

Jack, or ‘Jax’ Simpson was a known firebat. He was an expert on the field, albeit his ‘small’ stim pack problem. Right now he was in his tent, protected by the neon orange canvass. He strapped on his flamethrower and was about to run out and kill some Protoss when his friend stopped him.
“Hey man,” he said, his eyes a little bloodshot. “I’ve got the enhancers you asked for,” he said throwing Jax a pack of full syringes in tightly wrapped plastic.
“Thanks, I appreciate it,” Jax said throwing the stim packs on his small desk. He ran out of the tent and met a zealot of the Protoss all to quickly. The Protoss let out a battle cry and started thrashing his arms with the blue energy blades attached.
One of the blades scraped Jax’s armor, causing sparks to fly out. Jax pulled the trigger on his flamethrower. The zealot was instantly engulfed in flame. It ran around screaming for a few seconds before it hit the ground with a thud. The fire on the zealot turned blue and everything but it’s charred armor
“Just the way I like em’, nice an’ crispy,” Jax said admiring the kill. He jumped over a dead marine and headed for the front line.
The humans were fighting best they could, but the Protoss just kept on coming. Jax got a small scare when a marine fighting next to him flew back about ten feet when he was hit with an energy ball from a Dragoon. Jax glanced back at the marines burning body. The smell of hot flesh and hot lead lingered in the air. Jax looked forward just in time to see the huge bolt of psionic lightning heading towards him. Jax flew and landed far away. He lay on the ground moaning, having no idea that the terrans were fighting two battles that day.
Inside the command center the commander, the scientist and, yes, even poor Dixon lay on the floor, dead. Dixon was in a pool of his own blood and the other two had already been devoured by the loose Hydralisk.
To be continued…
