As luck would have it, the second we hit the freeway, the rain started pouring down once again. By the time we made it to the mansion, Heidi and I were drenched (although Mattz and Dag didn't really seem to mind).

The mansion was simply enormous, with two giant pillars holding up a huge front porch. Heidi and me leaped out of the bed of the truck and sprinted straight to the porch where the owner of the mansion was waiting.

"Hello, you guys must be Mattilda's friends!" the man said. He was medium height with spiky blonde hair and he seemed to be a bit overweight (if by "a bit" you mean 150 pounds overweight...of course). All in all, he looked to be the last man you would expect to see coming out of a mansion this size.

"Yes we are...my name is Mehdi and this is Heidi. We would just like to tha--" I said, attempting to be as formal as possible while still being taken back by this man.

"Nah nah nah, don't even mention it! I'm Deon; get your asses in here and freshen up, it must be freezing in those clothes!" the man said, motioning towards the front door.

Before we could even make a move towards the front door, Dag and Mattz streaked up to us. Mattz gave Deon a quick kiss on the cheek before rushing into the house, hand in hand with Dag. Heidi and I followed behind, and were motioned to separate bedrooms by two of the many butlers around the house.

I walked in and instantly became frozen in awe. The bedroom itself was twice as large as my entire apartment! The bed had to be a king-size bed, the closet looked to be about as big as the living room of my apartment, and the entertainment center was so grandiose it almost brought me to tears. I threw off my clothes and dried myself off with a towel before jumping into the closet and hunting for some decent clothing.

Not being a picky dresser at all, I grabbed the nearest pair of jeans and a TooL T-shirt and put them on. The others all dressed according to their own personalities: Heidi picked out a pair of jeans and a long-sleeved white T-shirt, Dag got a silk burgundy button-up shirt with baggy jeans, and Mattz picked out a backless red dress that cut off at her upper-thigh.

Deon called us to the dining room, we all went without hesitation. He was standing with his hands behind his back; despite the esthetics of his dress, he looked very regal.

"Hey sexy! What's up?" Mattz said to Deon with a smile from ear to ear.

"Nothin' too much, you're lookin' sexy as usual," Deon said, returning the smile before switching to a much more serious visage, "Alright...y'all need some place to stay for a while, right?" he said, turning his attention to Heidi, Dag, and me.

"Yeah...just for a while," Heidi replied.

"Well...what's going on then? Who are you running from?" Deon sat down, preparing himself to hear a long story.

"We...well...I really don't know what I'm running from...I dont know..." Heidi said with a loud sigh, she had already sat down too and was now in deep thought, obviously picking her words very carefully. "See...I was just walking down the street with my sister when we saw these three men bullying this guy, he looked to be homeless. Well, my sister has always been very impulsive, so she ran over to the three bullies to try and stop them...then..." Heidi's voice cracked, I looked at her and saw a single tear forming in the corner of her left eye as she tilted her head down.

"It's alright Heidi...we wont hurt you..." I said, trying my hardest to re-assure her.

She lifted her head and rubbed the tears from her eyes while letting out a loud sigh, "Ok...she ran over to the group and...one of the bullies...He pulled out a gun and shot her in the head..." Once again she stopped, attempting to regain her composure before continuing. "All I could do was watch as she dropped lifeless on the ground only twenty feet in front of me...I ran over to her, blinded by grief...I kept telling myself it was only a dream, but when I reached her...when I held her lifeless body in my arms...when I felt her warm blood cover my arms...I knew it wasn't a dream...I knew my sister was dead..."

Once again she paused, her breathing was heavy and filled with grief and her fists were clenched so tightly that the knuckles began turning white. "I must have sat there for well over an hour holding my sister in my arms, my eyes were burning from crying so much...But soon, my sadness turned into anger, the three bullies had already left and all that remained was the unconscious hobo lying next to my sister. In a blind rage, I got up and started kicking the man...my thoughts were blurred and incoherent but all I could think about was had this man not existed, my sister would still be alive! With all my hatred and wrath, I kicked the man, I kicked him until a small brown bag fell out of his jacket. I stopped kicking him and just looked down at the bag. I figured this was what the bullies were after. I knelt down and searched inside the bag, and there I saw more money than I had ever seen...I knew it was what the bullies were after, and I knew they would be back for it."

This time she was much more composed and she spoke much more objectively. "The ambulance had finally pulled up to my now dead sister and the battered homeless man. I looked up to see a crowd of people around me I hadn't noticed before, I just hoped that no one saw the money in the bag. Without hesitation, I pushed my way through the crowd and ran back to my house. I took a shower and put on some different clothes wondering what I would do without my sister when I heard a knock on the door." She paused once again, this time just to catch her breath. "Then a gun blast tore through my front door, and somehow I just knew it was the men that killed my sister. I looked around for any place to hide until I saw my bedroom closet. I couldn't think of anywhere else to go so I jumped in, trying my hardest to conceal myself in the clothes. Countless moments passed as I waited in that closet...I remember hearing them maybe just five feet from me searching my bedroom, but thankfully, they never thought to check the closet. Since then I've been on the run, I don't know who these people are or what they did to get this money, all I know is I cant let myself be caught by them..."

We all stared at her, still soaking in this woman's horrible story and not knowing what to say. Deon was the first to come forward though, as it is his house.

"I'm very sorry to hear that Heidi...but I am more than willing to let you stay here as long as you want, I wont let anything happen to you," Deon said, bringing his hands up to display his house.

She smiled slightly then got up and walked over to the window, the story was obviously very trying on her emotions. I walked over to the window next to her and crossed my arms. The rain clouds had started to disperse and a single twinkling star could be seen through them. Being there next to Heidi, looking up at that star with her, filled my heart with an unexplainable joy I had never felt before.

We spent upwards to an hour looking at that star together, neither one of us saying a word. It was all very surreal to me, and I didn't know how to approach it or what to say, all I knew was that I wanted this moment to last forever. But like all good things, it was destined to end, and ours ended as Deon walked up to us.

"It's pretty late...you guys really should think about hittin' the bed," he said, obviously exhausted himself.

We nodded to eachother and seperated to our own bedrooms. The night had been so exhausting that the bed seemed to beg for me to rest my body in its warm embrace, and I was more then happy to oblige. I lept into bed, not even bothering to undress, and instantly fell asleep wrapped in the covers with my left leg hanging free.

It mustn't have been more then 3 hours when I heard a crash like a window breaking. I quickly opened my eyes and froze in fear.

Shit...do they know where we are..? Where's my gun? I thought to myself as my eyes darted around the room hoping to see my gun.

The pile of wet clothes soon crossed my vision, and my eyes instantly locked on them realizing that I left my gun in my pants. I breathed in deep before leaping out of my bed and diving towards the heap of wet clothes. I frantically pulled them apart searching for my gun, but my search ended in no time at all as the gun dropped down to my knees.

With gun in hand, I creeped towards the bedroom door. Soon, my worst fears were realized, as I heard two gunshots go off and the faint sound of two bodies hitting the floor. I gasped and quickly flung the door open with my gun pointed directly in front of me.

To my complete surprise; there stood Heidi, Dag, Mattz, Deon, and a stranger holding a gun; and on the ground were two men garbed in suits. I held my gun up for a moment, but soon I realized the danger had passed and I tucked it back into my pants.

Finally coming to my senses, I realized that the two men in the suits were sent here to kill us, and that man must have saved us. I looked from face to face and they all seemed to be just as shocked as I was, all except for that stranger who just seemed to exude confidence. The stranger himself looked to be in his late twenties and was rather tall and built up rather nicely. He wore black cargo pants and a black knitted sweater with leather gloves on, which made him look much like an assassin.

"Looks like I got here just in time," he said, cocking his gun back and sticking it in the back of his pants.

"Yeah...looks like..." I replied, curiously staring at him because something about him just didnt seem right.

"My name is Kenny, I've been keeping tabs on you guys ever since I witnessed that shooting a few days ago," he said, pausing slightly before continuing. "I know this might be a lot to ask, seeing it as you've just met me, but I am a fully credentialed private investigator with years of experience and I wish to take Heidi from here and give her a more protected place to stay."

"Wait wait wait, you cannot just kick us to the curb! We have put our lives on the line for her and we cannot just back out now!" I replied in a very loud tone.

"No...it's alright Mehdi, thank you for protecting me but I think I would be much safer with this man..." Heidi said, not able to look me in the eye.

I was shocked, beyond words. I just stood there and watched as she walked over to Kenny and rested her hand in his and began walking towards the front door. I refused to let her just walk out like that, so with my emotions fueling me, I ran towards the two.

"I promised no one would hurt you! I promised I would protect you! After all we've been through, you'll just throw me away like this for this man?" I said, not knowing what else to say.

"They know we're here...what next? Will your stripper friend find us another millionaire to stay with? I've paid you more then well enough for these past few days, and now your job is over. Kenny will take it from here," she said, being as firm as she could be.

"But..." I started, but couldn't find the right words.

"Don't worry about me Mehdi, I've known Kenny for a couple of years now...we've always been very close," she said, and that's when it hit me: she had a thing for this man, something she's had for a while.

I couldn't say anything else after realizing what this man was to her. This was it, I was through...all I could do was accept the outcome and let her go. Kenny and Heidi once again started towards the door, and this time no one stopped them. Defeated, I walked back towards my friends who all had the same sad look on their faces.

"Well...I guess that's it...sorry for the inconvenience Deon...I guess we should be on our way, this place isn't safe any more..." I said, trying to not let the overwhelming feeling of despair control me.

"Something seemed kinda funny 'bout that guy, don't you guys think?" Mattz said, obviously not affected near as much as I was about Heidi's leaving.

"Yeah, just seemed kinda fake..." Dag said, deep in thought.

Suddenly Deon's eyes lit up, and a look of shocking realization crossed his face. "That's because he is fake!"
