Hi all

Hi all. Call me Jimmy. Here's a text-only fanfic, which will be continued later, and battlereport.

Fanfic, The Unexpected Colony, Part 1
----------------------------------------

The new colony, formed on June 28, 8374, was not a particularly happy one. T-280 Space Construction Vehicle Workers kept complaining about the poor pay rates, and just days ago they went on strike, halting processes.

Worse, two Zerg Cerebrates relayed messages to Commander Ikryoen to signal to them that their presence on the planet Tehnon, 200 million light years away from Earth, was absolutely unwelcome and both of them would like him to move out.

Ikryoen, or Ik as his mates called him, was quite worried that sometime the colony might just collapse. However, the lieutenant assured him that all would be fine.

"Sir, we are moving in!"
It was 4 months since the colony was formed. Dozens of Vulture hoverbikes, Siege Tanks and Wraith fighter jets were being made. Ik recently ordered an assault of a dozen Vultures to the cloest Zerg Cerebate, Halroch. The comsat station had recently finished, bringing starling information: both Zerg Cerebates had enormous groups of hydralisks.
"Sir, how many hydras are there?"

"There must be approximately 50-odd. We must get reinforcements quickly!"
Just then, sirens went flashing and panic started to develop.
"Sir, what is going on?"
"The hydras had breached our front lines. Build more Factories!"
"Roger that, sir."

With all the trouble happening, no-one noticed several groups of rebel SCV workers sneaking away with enough minerals for a new Command Center, among other supplies.

"Sir, we are under attack!"
The Vultures had reached their destination. A group of newly hatched hydralisks and zerglings were confronting the 12 hoverbikes.
"Lay down the mines, everybody!"
The hoverbikes opened up the bottom apartment, and started 'laying' the mines. Hydralisks started collapsing, zerglings started to pop.
Suddenly...
"Incoming!"
A stream of Ultralisks came from the second zerg Cerebrate, Unos. He planned this devious attack as soon as he found out about Ikryoen.

Somewhere, hundreds of kilometres away from the outskirts of the battle, a new Command Center was being built near an area of abundant minerals and a gas geyser.

For a while, nothing was to be seen but blood. Infantry died, buildings exploded, tanks were crushed.
But as the dust settled, the Terran Commander emerged victorious again after reinforcements arrived.
"Sir, we are victorious!"
"Okay, Build a Command Center there, with at least 4 turrets surrounding it. I also want the Level 2 Infantry Armor and Weapon Upgrades done by at least Tuesday. Understood?"
"Got it.
A new ComSat Sweep revealed a new possible expansion site, only occupied by a few Zerglings.
"Sir, should we secure the site?"
"Wait until tomorrow."
Outside, troops were starting to be withdrawn as night started to fall.

The next week, Commander Ikryoen considered his options. He was going well, to be sure, but a recent check on troops had found that several dozen SCV machines had mysteriously disappeared, as well the same number of SCV workers and 400 talents of minerals.
He could send out a scout team, or he could just not worry and go on with strengthening his troops.
"Sir, I suggest you should go send out a scout team. From what I heard, they vanished without a trace, which is something suspicious, given that there was no presence of Zerg there."
Lieutenant Kaskandov, who travelled all the way back from Earth, had just finished talking with all the troops.
"Lieutenant, I think the best thing to do is send out out a scout team. Ask any volunteers to join a force of a dozen infantry, a few Vultures, Tanks and Goliaths."
"I'll go right away."

Far away, the Command Center finally finished, and three SCVs started mining, the Fusion Cutters and the puffing of the geyser the only sounds to be heard on the lonely part of the enormous planet.

"Okay. Blair, Alex, Kadan. Who else? Any Medics?"
"I'll go," a sweet voice called out from the back of the meeting hall.
"Okay. Susan. Yes, Katrina, Emily."
The troops were being gathered for an expedition for the 400 lost minerals and the several SCVs and workers.

"Commander Ikryoen, this is Executor Dilih, We Protoss have attempted to secure this land for a century, but without success, because of the Zerg. We are asking if you could help us to secure a mineral site and help fend off the Zerg and share this land."
It was the middle of the night at 4am in the morning, and nobody replied.
"Commander. Commander...?"

Another SCV was made and started mining to make what was to be the most powerful colony of all time.

It was only the next morning that they finally replied.
"Executor, we have agreed to ally with you and your colony. How is it like?"
"Commander, we have only just started to bring troops to the mineral site north of there. You see?"
"Yes I see. You apparently have 4 Carriers, a dozen Scouts and half a dozen Corsairs."
"Yes. The Shuttles, are starting to unload..."
"Yes. Yes, I see. You seen to be unloading Zealots, a dozen Probes, a few Dragoons, and... I can't quite make out..."
"Oh. You have this... Comsat device I heard of?"
"Yes."
"Sweep the area."
A scanner sweep revealed a dozen Dark Templar and a group of Observers, one of them scouting. That gave Ikryoen an idea...
"Executor Dilih, we lost several dozen SCVs and 400 talents of minerals a month ago. We have sent a scout team, but they came back yesterday with no sign of them. Perhaps we could borrow some of your troops to help..."
"Okay. We have just started to establish ourselves."
On the Command Center main screen a Probe could be seen beginning a warp rift for a Nexus, and the others were seen warping Pylons and an Assilimator. The silhouettes of Dark Templar and Observers began to fade as the Protoss troops stood position.
"We have decided to send 2 Dark Templar, 2 Observers and 2 Zealots to help you."
"Okay. Thank you, Executor."

Another SCV was made, and Jake, the 24 year old with the idea, began chuckling to himself.

The scout team was sent out again, but with the reinforcements, the search was made much easier.
In the Protoss base, the warp rifts had finished, and the Probes could be seen diligently mining the minerals.
After exchanging a few words with the Executor, the Terran Commander sighed and surveyed the scene, SCVs were also mining diligently with a few forces on patrol duty.
However, just as quickly as the Protoss had landed, Commander Ikryoen decided to launch an offensive on one of the Zerg, consisting mainly of nukes.
Before he started, however, he decided to tell the Executor about it.
"Your offensive will be evaluated by our noblest warriors. We have already started expanding to the other possible sites. Although the Zerg have Overlord patrols around their base, we will do our best to eliminate the Overlords with our Corsairs and Scouts.
"Certainly. We also have several Valkyries."

The Game
-----------

This was in an Internet café a week ago, 1v1 it was. I have absolutely nothing to go on except my memory, so please excuse me.

Map: Rivalry (Yes, not Temple!)
Me: Random to Protoss, top-left
Opponent: Selected Terran, top-right

Build orders:
Me: pylon, gateway, gateway, cyber core, pylon, forge, pylon, stargate
Him: barracks, depot, refinery, barracks, bunker, bunker, factory

When my 11th robotic probe thingy started the warp for two gateways, I sent him to scout. I sent him (it?) clockwise, and surprise, I found him at top-right. As you will have noticed, he did the one of the oddest build-orders I have ever seen. His depot was normally placed, but his barracks was next to his refinery. He also had a bunker.

WTF? Newb.

He had two marines, so my probe didn't last long. It ventured into his SCV line before dying. Just before the fog of war fell upon his base, I could see another bunker beginning construction.

Back home, I had 4 zealots and sent them to his base to see what I could do. I also started my cyber core, with immediate research of range in mind. (Duh!)

Unfortunately, when my zealots arrived, both of the bunkers were complete and started firing on my zealots. One nearly died before I retreated.

Back home, I had finished my other pylon, forge and core. I was researching dragoon range, getting 2 of those out of my twin gateways, and was also researching +1 attack. My opponent wasn't doing much: all I could see was a factory beginning construction.

I decided to cannon him in and sent a probe across and started a pylon just out of his sight range.

Just then, I heard a "Oméga alle Salados" of some sort (Please tell me the exact words) as two of those spider thingies came out. I was a bit freaked out by the fact that I had about 700 minerals in the bank and a bit less gas, and started two cannons in my firebase (if that's what you can call it) and a stargate, with scouts in mind.

At this point, we had:

Troops  Upgrades    Bases
Me  ~ 4 Dragoons, ~ 7 Zealots Dragoon Range, Nearly 1/0/0 Ground. 1 main, 1 firebase.
Him ~ 8 Marines ~ 2 vultures 0/0/0 Ground. 1 main

Soon I had all my forces next to his base. My cannons finished, and pounded on his factory, as well did my dragoons.

Oh wait, 2 vultures and 4 marines come attacking me. Scary.

After eliminating them with relative ease, losing only 2 zealots in the process from nearby bunker fire, The Goons™ continued firing on the factory. I noticed two SCVs repairing it, but didn't bother to 'attack micro' my dragoons on the SCVs and the factory. Sorry guys :(

My stargate had finished completion a while ago, as well as a new pylon, cannon, 3 goons and 1 zealot. All this time, I wondered why he didn't start a machine shop. Can anyone tell me why? (He did have enough room)

Also, I made a new gateway in my firebase.

After reaching a mass of ~6 zeals, ~8 goons, with a scout, I sent them to attack move his base.

Turns out both his bunkers only had 3 marines in them. Hmm... Anyway. I disposed of them easily, and razed his base.

Oh wow, he floated away 1 CC and 2 barracks. A goon took pot-shots off a rax before they disappeared from sight.

I tried to get my goons and zealots out of his old base, but the cannons, pylons and gateway were blocking the way. DOH! I made a Robotics Facility as well as a new pylon.

My scout had finished completion, and I went to the two other starting points. Nothing. Hmm...

Suddenly, a CC and 2 rax floated to my main, and landed. They immediately started blinking.

I brought all my peons, my goons (~5) and a zealot, as well as my scout and a new one, to attack them.

After a while, two marines popped out, only to be immediately disposed by four probes.

I tried to make a new zealot when I received a message:

Not enough minerals... mine more minerals.

I checked my resources. 2 minerals and 600-odd gas. Oh well.

The game, of course, was essentially over at this point. Soon after both barracks blew up. A while later, the CC also blew up, followed a message:

****** has been eliminated.

(Name censored for safety reasons)

Lessons learned:

  1. Building placement is important. At the end, My goons and shuttle were STILL there. Dunno why :(

  2. If you build a factory, almost always build a shop.

  3. If you don't know your opponent, always assume he is a newbie.
