I never realized just how big a bloodlust Tauren Chieftain was until now

   Well, time for report number
3. Heeding the advice of the commenters before, I have decided to do a 1v1 report
(or maybe it was because I was sucking at Free for Alls lately). This may not be
between the best players, there may be many things both of us should've done
differently, but it was fun and that's all that really matters. I hope you
enjoy!

   The Players

   blizzar89:
blizzar89 has been
playing Free for Alls almost exclusively lately, but due to complications
(mainly losing every one since the last report) he has switched to the 1v1
ladder. He is level 9 with the Grunt icon, though he says that one day he will
be a Far Seer.

   MADgood:
MADgood was a level 8
on the solo ladder, though has recently joined his opponent at level 9. He is a
Night Elf player almost exclusively (only three games not Night Elf) and has the
Archer icon.

   The Game

   Normally I would have an
analysis of the map, but because this was on Plunder Isle, I feel that it is
unnecessary. If you really want an analysis go to ~CattleBruiser~'s two reports
on Plunder Isle.

Now that that's over with, on
to the game. MADgood's build order starts out traditionally, probably to get fast
hunts for an early rush. MADgood's order consists of three starting wisps to
gold, the next to Altar, and the next to build a Well. He then creates five
more. The first new wisp creates a Moon Well, while the second goes to gold and
the third creates a hunters Hall. The altar wisp goes to the gold mine, and
begins to train a Demon Hunter.

The wisp working on the Moon
Well goes to lumber along with the fourth and fifth new wisps. A lumber wisp
creates an Ancient of War, as another wisp is trained to replace it. The Hunters
Hall finishes and that wisp goes to lumber, and then begins to upgrade his tree.

   Bliz's build order consists of
sending three of his starting peons to gold, the next to make a Burrow, and the
last to make an Altar. He then creates two more peons. The first creates a
Barracks, while the second goes to gold, along with the burrow peon. The Altar
peon begins to harvest lumber as a Tauren Chieftain is trained.

One of the lumber peons begins
to build a War Mill as the peon working on the Barracks goes on to replace him. Bliz
begins to train a grunt and sets a lumber peon to build a burrow. The TC
and Grunt come together at the same time and begin to creep.

    At this point in the
game, there aren't many points of interest. A couple are, Bliz
begins work on a
Watch Tower for fear of early game Night Elf harassment. Also, he goes to creep MADgood's plateau. The rest can be explained in the picture.

I found my disk with all of the cool backgrounds and effects. Yay.

After the bout of creeping, MADgood
begins to mass outside of Bliz's base. At dawn, MADgood
attacks. Bliz makes use of his Town portal (after buying a scroll of healing) to defend his
base. Bliz makes good use of his burrows and towers. War Stomp stops the hunts
in their tracks and there's nothing to defend them against the spears thrown
from the Watch Tower and burrows.

After almost destroying MADgood's army (and summoning a Stone Golem for stun),
Bliz goes for a counter.
For a time it looks as if Bliz would win the game right then and there, but then
this wouldn't be a very good report now would it?

   Bliz
manages to wipe out all
of MADgood's forces, but when the Ancients of War uproot,
Bliz has problems. He
almost destroys one of the Ancients but is forced to run with low health.

How are you supposed to destroy a Night Elf base early when the buildings themselves deal 50 damage?

    Bliz
probably should've
had MADgood beat now unfortunately, Bliz
has one huge, gaping flaw. He couldn't
macro if his life depended on it. While Bliz curses his abysmal macro and
upgrades to a Fortress, training a grunt, and building a second barracks, MADgood
settles his AoW back in and begins to rebuild.

   Bliz
thinks that MADgood's army
won't be big, so brings three grunts and the Tauren Chieftain to attack again.
He first stops by the Merchant to buy a Scroll and a potion, then attacks with
now four grunts. On the way, he meets up with MADgood's army, which now consists
of five hunts and an archer. Bliz decides that there is no way for him to beat
that army, so takes a leaf out of the book of Monty Python and runs away.

   After that great display of
cowardice, Bliz decides that he needs to mercilessly destroy some creeps to
bring his confidence back up. And that they do. They creep Bliz's plateau,
raising the Tauren Chieftain even more. He also picks up a Wand of the Wind
which would prove useful later on.

   Meanwhile, MADgood
goes to try
and creep his plateau before discovering that Bliz has come and gone.
MADgood sulks out of the plateau and sends a wisp to expand.
MADgood is feeling blue and
is heading back to base when he sees Bliz about to creep!
Bliz obviously can't
see MADgood as he goes about his business and begins to creep some Gnolls.

And people say Nightvision is a worthless skill. Ha!

   MADgood
stealthily sneaks in
from behind and attacks. Bliz is sandwiched in between the Gnolls and
MADgood's
army. Making good use of the Wand of the Wind and War Stomp to distract the
creeps, Bliz might have a chance. Eventually the creeps are destroyed and its
just Bliz's weakened army against MADgood's almost full army.

   Unfortunately for MADgood, the
Tauren Chieftain reaches level 6 during this battle and knows he may have a
chance. MADgood thinks he has it won when Bliz's army is destroyed and he still
has half of his, unfortunately for him, Bliz is able to pick off all of the
archers limiting MADgood's army. The rest is injured and with War Stomp and level
3 Endurance Aura, he is able to take out MADgood's army down to half size.

   MADgood
finally makes the
connection between level 6 and Reincarnation. MADgood
runs away to heal at home. Bliz knows that even a Tauren Chieftain at level 6 can't take the rest of
MADgood's army, so he retreats to check for expansions.

Wow, alt text is harder to think of than it looks

        During
Bliz's expansion check, he finds MADgood's plateau expansion an destroys the
Entangled gold mine before it can be completed. Unfortunately, MADgood's army TPs
to the defense of the tree just as two Grunts come into play. They are no match
for MADgood's giant army now fully healed. And the TC shows it by running awa...
no. Wait. He went to the Merchant to get Healing Potions and a mana potion! He
returns to the battle to find that one of his grunts is dead. He attacks. He
dies once during the battle but returns again to fight.

        The
Tauren Chieftain fights valiantly, with War Stomp and Endurance Aura playing a
major role, as well as the potions he recently bought. In the end, however, the
Tauren Chieftain dies for the first and last time throughout the entire game.
But not before MADgood's army is almost completely destroyed. Two injured hunts
and an injured PotM.

lame, I know, but its my report and I can do what I want with it.

        Back
at Bliz's home base, things aren't going so well. All of the potions and such
cost Bliz alot of money, and left him almost broke. He has only two Wyverns
which he was secretly building. Bliz saves his money for the Tauren Chieftain,
knowing that expo defense is far more important right now. This move may have
saved the game for him as by the time he gets enough for both expansion and
Tauren Chieftain, MADgood starts hunting expansions and barely missing
Bliz's
peon as it goes to expand.

        As
soon as the Tauren Chieftain revives, and a master Shaman is trained, they head
out to defend the expansion. A grunt arrives with the army just before MADgood
attacks. The battle should have been MADgood's if not for the Wyverns.
Bliz tries
to take out all of MADgood's AA before the Wyverns die, but, alas, the Tauren
Chieftain is killed once and the remaining archer kills the Wyvern in the time
between death and resurrection. Still, the archer fire has allowed Bliz
to deal
some damage without many casualties, unfortunately, that doesn't last long, and
as the TC is resurrecting, his army is destroyed.

   Bliz
knows that he must win
this battle. If he loses or the Tauren Chieftain dies he dies as well. The
Tauren Chieftain fights valiantly, destroying MADgood's army easily with War
Stomp and Endurance Aura again wiping out MADgood's army. Just the Priestess is
left at the end of the fight, but it can't stay away from a Tauren Chieftain
with level 3 Endurance Aura. The Priestess eventually dies.

Yes, that's a fish around the Priestess. What do you plan to do about it?

       There was
one huge difference in this battle that has not yet happened before. That's
right, Bliz remembered to macro! He has two grunts at the end of this battle
with a couple of Shaman and Wyvern in training. Bliz
begins to go hunt for MADgood's expansions, unfortunately, just as he's about to attack
MADgood, MADgood attacks
Bliz's expansion. Bliz
quickly buys a Town Portal and TPs to his
expansion's defense.

   Bliz
and MADgood finally have
equal armies, and you can easily guess the outcome. Again the Wyverns are
focused on by Archers and Bliz tries to kill the archers. This ends up with his
army dead and just the Tauren Chieftain again. Bliz
is using level 3 Stomp now
when he reaches level 8. Now Shockwave is added to his arsenal. He quickly
drives MADgood off until he finds that two Archers and a Hunt all that is left.
He quickly eliminates the Hunts, even with their superior speed, now that Bliz
has shockwave they cannot escape from the Tauren Chieftain's might. Soon the
archers are forced to hide.

 Yeah, the Tauren Chieftain owns.

           Bliz
now fortifies his expansion with a single Watch Tower, hoping that that will be
able to deter any attacks. Bliz could have easily destroyed
MADgood there, but
then hears that his expansion is under attack! It's only the two Archers who
hid, but Bliz is worried that there could be something else. He quickly
dispatches of the Archers, except one who hides again.

Meanwhile, MADgood is preparing an attack. He masses up a sizeable army of hunts
and archers and attacks Bliz's main. MADgood
may have won this battle, and the
game, if his archers weren't spotted by the Bliz army as they headed out to
creep their corner. This suitably ended the game for MADgood. The Archers were
destroyed and nothing could stop the Wyverns.

MADgood
soon conceded the battle and the game
when he saw there was no use in continuing. A "gg" was shared by both
and the game was over.

If you haven't figured this out yet, you can tell who won the battles the collages illustrated by checking the borders. Yellow=Yellow victory, Teal=Teal victory. Simple.

Well, there you have it. It was a fun game
and I hope you enjoyed reading about it. Like I said before, we aren't the best
players but we had fun and that's all that matters to me. Remember, constructive
criticism is always welcomed. -b89
