Introduction: The place to start!

After a long hiatus, I have once more immersed myself in the excitement that is Warcraft 3. Some things have changed since I last contended in version 1.4. Actually, a whole lot of things have changed and I'm rusty to boot. My only expansion experience is the single player campaign. (Illidian! Such magnificence! Such bad-assness! Such sexiness! How could you die on me! Curse you Arthas, CURSE YOU!) But I've been eager to partake of this expansion ever since Blizzard started giving out tantalizing tidbits of the awaited patch 1.13. So I log back onto battle.net, determined to have a wonderful time like in Starcraft days. I find that my level has diminished to a meager six. Oh well, those are the rules. I hit play and soon my choosen Night Elves will be pitted against a level eleven (!) chosen Orc. Well, I'll get a good learning experience out of this I think. Little did I know how right I would be!

This report will be given from my view. It's a style. I also know what I am thinking but my skills at mind reading are sadly lacking. I also won't be taking any pictures since I'm still waiting for my image manipulation software to arrive in the mail. Besides, I'd rather rest on the magic of my words. Just so you know, I am a noob. So feel free to enjoy my report with that in mind, or don't. It's all fine with me. But if you see anything that could improve my game, please feel free to speak up.

Part 1: Terrorizing the temple

I've heard that people don't like it when Night Elves get the Beastmaster. I'm quite happy to obliege them too. I'm here for fun and what's good enough for me is good enough for them. No need to spoil their fun. Oh, and I also think the master wannabe is so utterly destroyed by dispell that I don't want to risk it, he's just too one sided. The hands of fate would render this debate pointless though, we were playing on temple. I began my quest at the north position. Scouting wisps located my arch-nemesis in the east. I fully remember how useful that sexy demon hunter tank was when I last played, and I am overjoyed at the prospect of having two to obliterate with now. My loose plan at this point is the create two bad-ass tanks out of my heros by creeping and getting perminent items. I'll build huntresses and get upgrades until my enemy starts begging for me to build a counter to his units.

Now the last time I played was before they added hero damage, so I soon had a rude awakening encroaching on my domain. I went with a warden when I'm used to a demon hunter with dodge. After annihilating two trolls and claiming some gloves of haste, I go heal at the well. My goal to get two bad-ass tanks is off to a good start! I would have creeped the south eastern trolls too, but I just happened to find my nemesis creating the northeast ogres. It's time for a good, hard jacking. And I possess just the blade obsessed dominatrix to do it with too. The orc has choosen far seer and head hunters for his fighting needs. He also decided to stay and fight the creeps while I jack him. Fine by me. I shadow strike the trolls and exterminate them. I hide the hurt huntress. I hide my warden. I don't hide fast enough. Uh... Whoops? The score gives me three headhunters down and he gets my warden. Not to be discouraged, I quickly rebuild the level one hero and run my nearly destroyed huntress to the fountain. She is soon joined by some more huntresses and my resurrected warden for some good old scrimishing at the well. A huntress gets ripped apart by spears. A troll gets smashed by glaves. My warden earns a level up. You know, I like wardens. They have so much direct damage potential. I immediately sink my point into fan of knives and get ready to unleash some destruction.

At the well.

At night.

With some creeps sleeping there.

With some VERY POWERFUL creeps sleeping there.

Um... I think I pissed them off.

HIDEHIDEHIDEHIDEHIDE!

My arch-nemesis looses two more trolls to gnoll's wrath and I run home with my tail tucked between my legs. Hey, I think that worked out after all!

Part 2: Open Terrain Confrontations

Okay, my arch-nemesis is using trolls. But he doesn't have too many. What is he pondering? What are his plans for temple domination? I don't know, and I don't like that one bit! So I send a wisp to scout. Well, the wisp gets obliterated before I can observe any useful information. Hmph. There's only one thing to do, pay a visit to the local ogre crew. Under cover of moonstone I sneak in and let my warden's direct damage shine. The northwest ogre camp is decimated with no casualties on my part. And then I get a miracle. A SOBI MASK! This is just what I need to feul my power hungry spells. I follow this up with a reveal on my enemies main. I spy a beastery. Hmm, do you supposed he's accumulating wyverns? Now what counters wyverns? I believe that would be hypogryphs. Time to begin construction of an ancient of wind. After this I creep the two west gold mines for future expansion. I have absolutely no intention at all of putting a base right next to the enemies main unit massing zone. No thank you, I'll be quite happy to put my expansions as far from my arch-nemesis as possible.

And then it happens. My new demon hunter spies the enemy creeping the gnolls at my entrance to the temple. I do believe it's time for another good old jacking. And this time it'll be with my old comrade the demon hunter. This is the way it should be: Demon hunters jacking up creeping armies. It's the simple things in life, you know? I predict my arch-nemesis will creep the fountain. The demon hunter waits until my army has cleared a path to the opponent. The charge is sounded and I advance from two directions. What do you know, I predicted right! The demon hunter immediately engulfs a clump of trolls in flames. I approach from the west and start hacking. The far seer panics and portals. I run home so I don't loose damaged units to the knolls. I loose nothing and he looses some trolls. Well, that was fun at least.

Soon it's night so I go back to heal. One of my huntresses leaves a little birdy there to keep watch on the well. I also check out his already cleared expansion and leave a little birdy there too. I head down to creep the second ogre camp, but I find only fresh bodies. Hmm. Now I am pondering just what my orcish friend might be up to. A quick reveal locates two catapults heading out. My birdy at the well sees that he finished creeping it with wyverns and his army heads north. I put two and two together and realize that my arch-nemesis has chosen this time to force a conflict. I am only too happy to obliege...

Part 3: Large Scale Mayhem

It's time for an update. I have a level four warden, a level one demon hunter, two archers, seven huntresses, and five hippogryphs. My huntresses are 2/2 while the hippogryphs are 0/0. I know upgrading your units is uncommon, but I like the idea of a long term investment. After the units die, I still have that upgrade on new units. My arch-nemesis has a level four farseer, a level three chieftain, three head hunters, five wyverns, two catapults, and a trump card. All his units are 1/0.

Eager for battle, I town portal home hoping to gain the ramp advantage. My plan succeeds perfectly and my ground forces engage him on my ramp, giving me the uphill advantage. My orcish friend plays his trump and summons an army from nothing but powerful items. Three furbolgs and a dragon supplement his forces. You'll notice I specifically referred to my ground forces. That's right, my hippogryphs were to the side ready to flank. It's a fair fight, Five wyverns versus five hippogryphs. Oh dear, those wyverns just went all to pieces. Tsk, tsk. I'm not sure how the ground war happened because all I could observe was aerial carnage. But I could see my huntresses were getting pummeled from the status section at the bottom so I fell back to my full wells. During the retreat I lost my demon hunter. He was so close to the well too! I would have lost my warden too, but I forgot to tell my two latest wells to autoheal, so there was some juice left for her. The chieftain crumpled under shadow strike and focus fire while the farseer retreated after wasting three illusions of himself.

When the carnage settled, I still had my warden, four huntresses, and two hippogryph riders. My arch-nemesis has naught but his farseer and a catapult, both running away with their tails between their legs. SUCCESS! There's nothing like people trying to kill you to get the blood flowing! After a quick healing at the fountain I decide the time is ripe to loose all my huntresses. Um, actually I was supposed to be pressing my advantage. Unfortunately my orcish friend doesn't understand that you're supposed to be in a world of peril after losing an all out battle. He has some taurens at his main along with some catapults which reduce my huntresses to ragu thick and chunky. I tuck my tail between my legs having only taken down one tauren.

So, my enemy has tauren now. Hmm... That's bad. That kinda trumps my huntresses. So what do I have that counters tauren? I believe that would be cyclone. Well how astoundingly convient, I already possess the ancient of war too! I begin readying some druids of the talon. I also decide now would be a good time to expand given the fact that I'm about to run out of gold. I sent a wisp to the west expansion. This will be far away from those mean tauren while giving me a quick path to it. Annoyances! I haven't even gotten past one hundred life on my new tree of life before a spirit wolf finds it. I send another wisp to construct an ancient protector as well. Now I head southwest to creep the south second and give my demon hunter some items to work with. I should be find because he's probably going to attack my expansion and I'll be close to it.

So why are those red dots showing up at my main base?

Uh...

Shit...

Part 4: Base go BOOM!

Time for an update. I have a level five warden, a level two demon hunter, six huntresses, two hippogryph riders, and two adept druids of the talon. I'm still at 2/2 and 0/0. All of my units are at the south end of the map and I don't have a town portal, the money to buy one, or an uncreeped shop nearby. My arch-nemesis is currently destroying my undefended base with a level five farseer, a level three chieftain, three 0/0 tauren with pummel, five 1/0 berserkers, two bat riders, and two catapults.

I am not a happy fox.

After he obliterates my ancient of wind and my two ancient of wars he targets my tree of eternity. I repair immediately because I'm not willing to sacrifice that for time. He instead targets my moonwells and I loose a good four of them before I finally get back. I flat out forget to cyclone because I'm too busy unleashing my direct damage spells with my heros. We trade huntresses for taurens (chieftain and all) and then my ubertank heros just crack open a tank of whoopass on the berserked trolls. The seer runs for his life just as the catapults splatter my last druid. My orcish nemesis decides to sacrifice his two catapults for moonwell kills.

During the confusion of the battle I gained level six with my warden and made critical mistake of getting shadow strike instead of avatar of vengence. Oops...

Okay, neither side has an army. I have an expansion and a few scattered tech buildings that I used to call a main base. The enemy is building an expansion in full sight of my little birdy at the east natural. I reconstruct moonwells, build wisps at my expansion for the construction of a new main base. I also buy some much needed healing potions. My gold mine also exploded during the carnage so I send the wisps over to my expansion where I forgot to build wisps to mine. Heh, whoops! All the while my little birdy at the fountain is spying a farseer there. Imagine that. ATTACK! The farseer takes off for my expansion but as soon as the first shadow strike hits I know he's toast. Good thing I spotted him. Some level six earthquaking could really cripple my intentions to rebuild. The farseer bites it just as he's running to the west main. This gives my warden the much needed level seven to finally get my ultimate. Okay, now it's time to return the favor by sending some heroes to his expansion.

I've got a level seven warden, a level three demon hunter, and a fresh avatar of vengence. My arch-nemesis has a tauren, a level 4 chieftain, and two reinforced towers. Shadow strike and focus fire rip the poor tauren apart. My demon hunter gets focus fired but is saved by being passed a healing potion by my warden. He runs while my warden shadow strikes the chieftain to death. Good games are exchanged as I start demolishing his towers. Very good game indeed. I think I'll go destroy your buildings now.

Epologue

The replay is [A HREF="warcraft.vulpiandominion.com/Woot.w3g"]here[/A].

I did what I set out to do. I had the same kind of fun that I used to have playing starcraft. My thanks to Hasu-casa for a most enjoyable game. Perhaps it's time to me to get back onto the RTS genre. Yes, I think I'd like that. I think I'd like that a lot. Until next time, good hunting!
