Welcome to my second battlereport. Well it was a Saturday night and I was feeling pretty good after a solid win in a PGTour tournament and another game that i should have won, if I hadn't screwed up near the end. So, when a friend of mine asked for a game, we had both obsed several of each other's games but had never actually faced each other, I gladly accepted. Another player we knew well, who could easily own either one of us, wanted to be obs. Joyit, a protoss player has recently been working on becoming a terran player as well (probably from being owned by terran players so much) and really puts a damper on my randomness as he tells me to choose a race. Well, my typical response to this is to ask the opponent what he wants me to be, but he doesn't care, so i just randomly click on the drop-down menu and get terran, so he chooses toss. Though this isn't my favorite version of the map (this is wcg version and i prefer wgt 2.3) since the advantages all go my way...I'll get over it ;).

Well, on general principal i refuse to say what map we were playing on.
If you have never seen this map before, you can find a larger image of it by pressing alt+f4 3 times

Joyit warped in his nexus at twelve while our favorite reporter maareek, yes I am your favorite reporter and don't let anyone dissuade you from that, landed his shining beacon of freedom (ok it was a cc but go with me on this) at 6.

Joyit opened with 8 pylon, 11 gate, and 11assimilator pretty standard except the gate was a little late. At this point he has gotten into my base and on account of my own stupidity, and the fact that nobody had actually got in before my wall was done before, was able to perform an offensive assimilator on me. He follows this up with a 13 core, 15 gate, 16 double pylon...he's not going to let his advantage go to waste.

maareek, me, your favorite reporter, had gone 9 depot (probably the reason he got through, this is too late), 10 rax, 12 depot(seconds after the probe got in). At this point I had to use 3 scvs to work on the assimilator and built 3 marines to help and hopefully to defend the ramp until I could afford something more sturdy. I then proceeded with a refinery and double depots at 15 and a factory at 19.

About the time my factory begins, Joyit bring his first goon to my front door and knocks. Seeing this, the brilliant military leader maareek, who by the way hated the color those medics had painted his buildings, sent his 3 marines to tell the goon to go away. This goon, however, was not a good guest and fired upon the unwelcome squad and eliminated them all with 8 hp left. Maareek's 2 scvs were repairing the depot damage when another marine showed up and finished off the unwelcome guest.

At this point the marine stood at the entrance to the base and surveyed his new home, a factory had completed and was attaching a machine shop while another factory was finishing, an engineering bay was being constructed, and the ugly yellow beacon of freedom and hope was flashing meerily away when all of a sudden his view went blank. Chuck, the scv nearest Bull, the now fallen marine, saw the 3 dragoons ascend the ramp and begin firing on the supply depot blocking they're path and attempted to run. Having run only a short distance his headset crackled with the voice of his commander, telling him to repair the depot and buy time for the building tank. Chuck and Larry, the scvs who repaired after the original attack rush up and attempt repair again, with Stinky and Deon (lots of scvs are named Deon, no relation to the Deon, tho) following close behind. As Chuck reaches the depot and begins his repairs he sees 3 balls of plasma racing towards him, but the brave scv continues his mission and gives his life to bring freedom to this lost land. Larry, now alone, yells at the intruders just before he dies "You bastards'll pay for this."

I grieved the loss of Larry, he was a hard worker and dependable. I never liked Chuck, he dated my sister and she hated him so I did too, we're close like that. As Stinky and Deon passed the factories I told them to stop, no use sacrificing them too, since the depot couldn't be saved by them at this point. As the depot fell, a tank popped out of my first factory, and i placed him beside the machine shop and set my scvs up beside him, knowing i needed a miracle. In come the teal plated goons, and I always thought teal was such an unassuming color, and what we thought was our last stand began.
Earl eyes down the goons and speaks the immortal words, Eat shit and die. Earl's so classy.

Earl rethinks his words though as 3 shots of plasma blast his tank, and even with Deon and Stinky repairing the damage his huge amount of confidence begins to wain...until our brilliant protoss commander Joyit misclicks on the machine shop and turns his attention to his base.

"Uh, Sir, shouldn't we be attacking the tank?" says the second goon to the leader. "Well, that would make sense now wouldn't it?" says the lead goon. "Yes, sir it would" is the reply. "We're protoss! We don't do things that make sense now keep firing!" the leader says shortly.

Earl smiles in his deluxe command chair, taken right from the personal tank of General Duke, and sips his malt liquor while picking off the goons while Stinky and Deon repair the machine shop. After the second goon has been lost Joyit realizes what happened and targets the tank with the final goon, but with faithful Deon and Stinky Earl reigns supreme on the battlefield. Stinky is ordered to build a new depot while Deon is ordered to begin building an academy since the protoss commander will now turn to the Dark Templar to aid him.

With the calm now in my base i siege a tank on my ledge and send the other, which popped out almost the instant the last goon died, to scout my choke. Finding nothing at my choke, I build another factory to try to build up another forces to take control of the map. With three tanks at my choke I begin researching vulture speed and spider mines. I send my first vulture across the map to 12 as a scout, when he encounters 7 zealots and 4 dragoons in the mid, I attempt to retreat him but poor Bubba died. Seeing this threat, I mine up my choke and set up my tanks, just in case. I also build a command center and float it to my natural. With mining operations set up I secure my choke with 6 tanks and 4 vultures.

Following my beating his forces out of my base, Joyit expanded to his natural and began warping in an archives.
When you're terran, you don't want to see these things, unless it's seeing them blow up.

With his units in the mid and feeling that he had map control, he sends a probe to the 3:00 main. His expansion is delayed however as his middle forces are engaged by 6 siege tanks with the aid of a floating e-bay. Joyit'ssends all his forces, numbering 10 zealots, 8 goons, and a dt, into my natural but runs after losing all but 3 goons while killing 6 tanks and 2 vultures. Following this attack, he warps in a nexus and pylon at 3.

And, as a visual aid, I present to you the most gosu of minimap updates:
the orange spots in the top left are our observer building a base on the island, yeah he's real good manner :).

In the middle of the aforementioned attack on my choke I noticed a wisp of smoke as it were and the familiar sound of a dying dark templar, which I've heard far too often as a protoss, and being alerted to their existence I produce even more turrets and move my forces into the middle.
mmmmmmmm, map control *drools*

Joyit has 7 gates pumping and three bases mining, which is a very good feeling, and feels that the time is right to retake the middle despite the fact that they're are 7 tanks with more than ample detection around. The attack comes about the time my scvs finish repairing my e-bay from goon damage on account of me allowing it to fly too far, and ends after 5 goons, 3 zealots, and a dt die to the vicious arclite shells of my tanks, who receive no losses.

I have known for a little while that 3 is mining and that I'm behind in the mineral race, but my recent successes have evened it up to a degree, but I need another base. Towards that end, I begin another cc to float to the island and dropships to transport scvs over. I have 4 vultures sitting around doing nothing, and having scanned 3 and found no cannons there, I call for the most annoying of terran ploys...the vult raid. My vultures race from my choke to 3 but encounter 3 zeals on the way (I sent them along the right side of the temple to bypass the protoss forces) and lose a vulture. With 2 more vultures guarding the ramp I do a little dance to bring them down and up the ramp I go, seeing the movement of a dt I come from behind the minerals and lay the smack down on the probes. A cannon was warping in but wasn't going to prevent the probes from dying so Joyit runs them towards his natural. I have 3 vults, he has 6 probes left, and damnit I'm gonna take em with me. With 4 zealots behind me and 2 goons in front of me, I'm only able to pick off 2 more probes, but 4 vultures for 8 probes and mining time is a trade-off I'll take anyday.
Popping probes is so rewarding

Joyit is now tired of me controlling the middle and splits his forces so they come at me from 3 different angles. My 12 tanks with repairing scv's face about 30 assorted protoss units coming at them from almost all sides. The speedlots take most of the tank fire and with the separate attacks cause the tanks to destroy about 3 of their own number. The two dts in his force end up doing the most damage as the goons removed the turrets and even with a comsat my tanks were overnumbered and fell.
I attempt to retreat my last 2 tanks but they fall as well. All told i lost 12 tanks, 2 scv's, 4 turrets, and my e-bay, while he only lost 3 zeals, 4 goons, and an obs.
This don't look good for my fight for freedom, justice, and free malt liquor.

Well, victory is pretty well out of reach at this point, seeing as how Joyit has 10 gates and 3 bases whereas I only have 5 gates and the equivalent of 2 and 1/2 bases mining. But I'm not going down without a fight, and I put up a covert ops and add a nuke silo to my island expansion. I have a brand spanking new e-bay floating over my minefield with over a control group of tanks and vultures defending my natual, but with his 10 gates pumping Joyit can afford to send zealots at me to clear my minefield and force me to stay put. In addition he's able to float an observer just outside of turret range to keep an eye on my forces. About the time ocular implants complete and i begin cloaking, building a few ghosts, and constructing a nuke, the pesky observer spots my tanks unsiege to move up and the hammer falls.
Don't let this happen to you, support your local, Kill an observer win a car drive, and remove the pesky ships from friendly terran skys.

As I watched my forces die all I could do was say "gg" and leave.

Well, the most important thing to be learned from this game is not to let yourself be gassed. A terran will not win many games vs protoss without gas.

Also, if Joeuser is your observer, make the game on an obs map, although his building a base on the island did make for quite an interesting replay I must admit.

Mines are your friend, I didn't lay any in the middle and that's part of the reason why it fell.

Eliminate toss expansions. If I had been able to keep us even if resources I still could have won.

Sometimes it's more fun to lose than it is to win...although not necessarily more enjoyable.

Letting observers spy on your forces is not a very good way to secure victory. I needed to use more turrets.

Thanks for your time and please comment on the report :). Have a nice day.
