A 1v1 Terran vs. Terran On The Lost Temple

Hi, and welcome to Der Fuhrer’s second Starcraft battlereport. My last report, written about a game between me and my renowned (syke) friend David Sherrick, wasn’t nearly as successful as I had hoped it was going to be (mine never are). Becaue of this, I've decided to change my ways. Instead of actually having to play a game, I decided I could just download one from off the internet (!), sit on my lazy ass, take a few images, write down a few notes, and then write a long, interesting report about it. After searching on the internet for a full hour, I finally found the right website, and downloaded. The game that I chose, a 1v1 Terran vs. Terran on LT, was played between two Germans, called DE]Stargate and Leon[KD]. I had no idea at what skill level these two Deutschlanders were at, but I was very aware after watching the replay in 8x mode that they were clearly experienced players. This game, I assure you, will be the best game I have ever written about. I’m sure if my writing is not too shitty you will find great truth in my words. Partly because I am a lazy piece of shit and partial due to the fact that my deformed and gnarled fingers have trouble typing out these extremely complex names, we will call De]Stargate DE and Leon[KD] KD. I am going to use Leon[KD]’s name with a yellow font, because, carambra!, the text color is white and he was white terran. Simple enough? Great, glad to hear it. Let's get down to the game; the Korn CD that I am listening to is pumping me full of adrenaline and if I don't start typing soon, I'm sure that I'm going to explode.

The game begins at 00:00 (really?), and KD lands with white terran at 12, while DE receives blue terran at 6. Both players start with identical build orders, each walling in their entrances with two supply depots and a barracks. At the exact same moment they build a refinery, and both follow up with a factory and a starport: DE has a slight advantage because he starts his factory about fifteen seconds before his opposite number. I really don't know how KD

lost those fifteen seconds, but somehow he did. At about the 4:30 mark, the two player’s build orders diverge: KD begins construction on an armory and DE starts work on an engineering bay.

After the construction of their first barracks, both players make a marine and send it scouting at roughly the same time. DE sends his marine to 3 O’clock, then to twelve, where he manages to kill a white marine with only losing half. After killing the white marine, the scout manages to slip by the block, but before he is able to see what KD is up to, the marine is finished off by an SCV. Oddly enough, KD does the exact same thing, getting a marine through DE’s block before being killed by a pack of three SCVs. It was obvious that both of the players were evenly matched, and I knew this was going to be a great game.

The first blood was spilled at around the 6:00 minute mark. KD, prepared to make a drop, loads up two dropships with two tanks, two goliaths, and two SCVs and flies them al sur toward DE’s main. At the exact same moment, DE floats a newly constructed command center from the interior of his base over his block and lands it at his natural, which immediately begins pumping out SCVs. The white dropships roar in and drop off their deadly contents right behind the DE’s main block. The two tanks siege and begin targeting the control tower of one of the two recently built blue starports, which is blinking with bright green lights that undoubtedly signify research at work. DE responds with his two wraiths that he has stationed around his Command Center. Luckily, DE has cloaking, and after doing so the two wraiths open fire on the helpless siege tanks. Likewise, he moves the two tanks he has stationed around his mineral line to assist in the fight.

KD's SCVs are not standing around idly, and they begin work on two missile turrets, which hopefully will eliminate the wraith menace. Fortunately for DE’s they are both dispatched of before a turret is able to be completed. Running out of energy, one of DE’s wraiths uncloaks and is quickly downed by missiles fromKD's two escorting goliaths, but the outcome of the battle is all but inevitable. Before long, both of the white tanks explode under relentless laser fire from DE’s remaing wraith, the advancing blue tanks quickly ridding of the two supporting goliaths. Seeing the battle is lost, KD sends his dropships homeward, and peace is temporarily restored to the Lost Temple. KD has lost his entire army in exchange for a wraith and a Control Tower. It is obvious that DE has won the first battle.

During the lull both players lick their wounds and build up their forces. DE's natural is fully stocked with SCVs, and he builds a second factory and a new control tower. He is continuously pumping out tanks and wraiths. KD hastily replaces his losses from the previous drop, and floats a newly constructed command center onto his natural. In need of a resource boost, the natural is quickly stocked up by SCVs from his nearly mined out main. KD is constantly pumping out tanks and goliaths from his two factories, and his dropship fleet is augmented by a new arrival. I guessed that KD was planning to go for a second drop: My assumption proved to be correct after watching him load up four goliaths, two tanks, and four SCVs at around the 9:00 mark.

The three dropships, escorted by a single wraith, fly toward DE’s natural. The white wraith stupidly flies right in front of an enemy missile turret guarding the natural and dies an unglorious death, but isn't that the fate of all wraith pilots? As was intended by KD, the precious dropships fly over the plateau unscathed and quickly disgorge their contents. Oddly enough, KDstill has detection by no other means than missile turrets, and I was not suprised to see SCVs hastily put to work. They must finish the turrets before DE’swraiths arrive to ruin the day, or their short, worthless lives will come to quick end. DE is not slow to respond to this new threat, and in moments five cloaked wraiths fly onto the intruders and begin striking out at the helpless tanks and goliaths.

Unfortunately for DE, the barracks that he had floated over the plateau at the beginning of the game worked against him: The floating barracks blocked the view of the wraiths from the essential SCVs that were constructing the deadly missile turrets. Although the wraiths manage to spot and waste two of them, the remaining two finish their work on time and the wraiths are forced to beat a hasty retreat. A single tank, the only survivor of KD's task force, starts raining fire on the hapless SCVs below, and they quickly clear out without losing any of their number. Seeing that leaving the Command Center in place to die a needless death was pointless, DE immediately lifts it off. After letting it float in place for a few minutes, he moves it over to his second natural, which is quickly inhabited by swarms of eager miners. Hoping to keep an edge on his enemy, DE expands his money enterprise, and sends a single SCV to 9 o’clock main at the 12:00 minute mark. Unfortunately for , DE a white marine appears just as the Command Center is started, and he is forced to cancel.

Meanwhile, KD has not been standing around idly. Wisely going for anti air, he builds about eight goliaths and tanks, and upgrades the goliath’s missile range. Finally getting some sense into his head, he begins construction on a Science Facility: As soon as it is completed, he queues up a Science Vessel. By this time his main is totally mined out, and he begins to look around the map for any expansion opportunities. Unfortunately for our white terran commander, his Science Vessel is only half-way completed when the "Your base is under attack" message suddently flashes across his screen. He scrolls over to his natural just in time to see the demise of the last of his SCVs under the unforgiving cannons of seven cloaked wraiths. Reacting quickly, he rushes his goliaths down the ramp and stations them around the beleaguered Command Center, hoping to catch the wraiths unawares from the nearly completed Vessel. The blue wraiths waste two of the goliaths before the long expected Science Vessel finally pops out and is rushed toward the battle. As soon as he spots it, DE turns tail and runs, but not before losing three fighters to goliath AA missiles. The blue wraiths snigger as they leave behind nearly 15 dismembered SCV corpses.

Before I continue onward, let us have a brief overview of the tactical situation. DE has just won a major victory by halting the only income that KD has. On the bright side, KD still has a very large military and is more than capable of taking on DE in a flat out brawl. Taking advantage of the confusion caused by his marauding wraiths, DE secures the 9 o’clock second natural with four missile turrets, two tanks and a Command Center, and starts mining operations immediately. DE is beginning to outstrip KD's in income.KD's must find an expansion soon or risk losing the game. To give you all, my favoured readers, a better understanding of the situation, I have listed below forces of each army:

KD: Although he has lost a few minutes of valuable resource mining time, he still maintains a very large army of ten siege tanks and ten-twelve goliaths, eight wraiths, two vultures, a few dropships, and a science vessel, and is capable of taking the fight to the enemy whenever he desires.

DE: Although he is economically superior to KD,DE has a smaller military, with six wraiths, six goliaths, and eight siege tanks scattered between two expansions. If KD were to strike now, he could easily overwhelm one of the expansions in pieces, thus securing him victory. Fortunately forDE, he goes for a different option.

Now that you have seen the where each player is at right now, we will get back to the game. For reasons of his own, DEis not entirely satisfied with his recently won victory. Before he can give KD a chance to gather up his forces and counterattack, DE loads up six dropships with eight tanks, six goliaths, and six SCVs, escorted by all of his fighters, and sends them toward the 12 o’clock natural. Although the task force is still without cloaking detection capabilities,DE is confident enough that his SCVs will be able to build turrets in time.

The dropships unload the entire task force on the overlooking cliff undetected, and the eight siege tanks are soon lobbing swarms of arclite shells down onto the heads of white SCVs and goliaths alike. Watching the battle take place, the screen is filled with orangish explosions as the SCVs and goliath stationed at the bottom begin to explode surprising quickly. To the dismay of DE, however, this success is to be short lived.

KD sends the SHITLOAD of wraiths that he has been amassing and pounces on the innocent tanks and goliaths walking around helplessly on the cliff. The blue goliaths are unable to respond because none of DE’s SCVs have been able to set up any missile turrets. DE makes it even worse by putting on a horribly placed scanner sweep that missed the entire mass of the wraiths entirely. What might have been a great victory for wont of better planning, instead became a massacre for the blue cause. EVERY SINGLE BLUE UNIT WAS ELIMINATED! The three surviving dropships fled the disaster zone, with two white goliaths right on their tails.

What followed was another lull in the game play. Again, although DE lost the bulk of his army, he succeeded in severely damaging KD’ economy, to the point were his income totally stopped until he could total replace the SCVs that he had lost during the battle. Attempting to expand his resources, KD immediately builds a Command Center at the 3 o’clock main, and has it up and running with a full stock of SCVs within a few minutes Back at his main his factories are continuously pumping tanks and goliaths.

DE, on the other hand, has radically changed his strategy. Using a large group of SCVs, he constructs a total of NINE barracks, all of which are placed in a vast semicircle around the 6 o’clock second natural. From these barracks DE continuously pumps out marines/medics/firebats. In order to finance this gigantic army, DE places two more expansions at 6 o’clock natural and main. Both come on line at about the same time. Both players are ready for another battle, and the game is about to come to a close.

Before I continue onwards, be warned that the closing minutes of this game contain the wildest and most breathtaking scenes I have ever seen in my long historical association with Starcraft. Watching the replay, I was simply amazed by the many simultaneous battles that are to take place, and I’m sure you will be too. Brace yourself for this grand finale that will shock you out of your seats and leave you entranced for hours afterward (If my writing is not too shabby). Hold onto your paper bags, the battle is ready to begin.

THE FINAL BATTLE

Both players gather up their forces, KD loading up six goliaths, two tanks, and four SCVs into three dropships, and DE

massing his numerous marines and firebats at the 6 o’clock second natural together to attack. KD makes the opening move and flies his three dropships toward the cliff overlooking the nine o’clock second natural. The white tanks siege and destroy the blue tank before it has chance to respond and begin to pound the shit out of the mining SCVs and Command Center. DE sends his wraiths counterattack, and they destroy both tanks before being chanced away by goliaths and missile turrets. The goliaths have been momentarily stranded on top of the cliffs, where they can do no more damage. They are reduced to shooting the blue refinery at the 9 o’clock natural.

After dealing with the situation, DE sends a wave of about fifteen marines and firebats toward KD’s only remaining source of income at the 3 o’clock main. The marines and bats storm up the ramp and smash through the five or so goliaths stationed around the white mineral line like a steam roller. At the exact same moment, KD drops off a total of eight tanks escorted by a few wraiths right on top of DE’s 9 o’clock natural. The Command Center and SCVs are obliterated in the blink of an eye.

Back at the 3 o’clock natural, KD moves seven tanks from his main and quickly dispatches of the five or six blue marines that were still attacking the helpless SCVs and Command Center. However, before the tanks have a chance to siege, a second wave of blue marines charge up the ramp, screaming their battle cries and hurling splinter shells at the armored hulks placed before. Showing shitty micromanagement skills, KD opps not to siege any of his tanks. Instead, he moves them around a little bit for no apparent purpose, and the marines are able to destroy five of them before they are finally ousted and routed. Seconds later, DE renews his assault, but instead of using a swarm of marines, he flies in about 8 dropships packed to the brim with marines/firebats/tanks, escorted by wraiths, and drops them all a few clicks away from the Command Center. In the blink of an eye, the 3 o’clock main is wiped off of the map.

At the same moment KD’s mobile tank task force moves on from the 9 o’clock natural and drops at the 9 o’clock main. The four blue missile turrets prove to be no match for the swarm of white tanks and wraiths, and the base is quickly leveled. DE makes no attempt to counter the assault, most likely because he does not have the means to, the bulk of his forces being engaged in another area. The game is quickly winding down into a base race, and neither player seems to be holding any regard for his expansions. Both players have realized that game is going to be won by military force, not money.

After destroying a few white wraiths that dared to venture near, DE’s army arrayed around the 3 o’clock main storms down the ramp and destroys a white Command Center and a few SCVs mining at the 3 o’clock natural, which up to this point has gone undetected by DE’s forces. At the same moment KD’s tanks parked at the recently destroyed 9 o’clock main unsiege and roll toward the 12 o’clock second natural, where a white Command Center has just been completed. I was satisfied to see that DE’s army was moving in the same direction. Stopping in the middle, the blue forces are augmented with 30-40 additional marines equiped with stimpacks and 1-1 upgrades. After a few moments of resting in place, the gigantic task force moves onto the 12 o’clock second natural.

The moment the blue begin attacking the defenseless Command Center and the mining SCVs, KD’s tanks and wraiths arrive from 9 and begin erupting marines into pools of bright red blood. After losing about 10 of their number, the blue marines respond, and all seven tanks go down before they are able to do any significant damage. The accompanying wraiths are revealed by one of DE’s Comsat Stations and explode in a blink of an eye from a swarm of stimmed marines.

By now, 12 o’clock second natural does not exist, and DE’s forces are staying in place around the ruins of the once proud terran encampment. KD takes advantage of this exposed inactivity, and two siege tanks from the cliff above begin to rain down shells on the helpless marines. The blue marines weather the assault, and soon enough, six dropships arrive and load up four tanks and a large group of mainres. All six of the dropships then turn northward and fly over the cliff, intent on dropping directly into the white main. Three dropships explode under the combined barrage of missile turrets and goliath missiles before any of the units inside are able to get out, and the remainders, three dropships full of marines, only manage to drop half of their passengers before they themselves are destroyed. The white wraiths and tanks mop up what is left.

DE, determined not to give up the assault, sends the leftover tanks and marines charging into KD’s natural. After mowing down all of the defending goliaths in a matter of seconds, the mining facility is quickly laid waste with no survivors. After finishing their deadly work at the natural, DE orders what forces he has left up the ramp, but they are liquidated by Arclite Shells and Wraith cannons. Not that it mattered.

KD barely has a chance to breathe before a shitload of marines appear at his doorstep. By my estimates, I have to say that their must have been at least 60. KD didn’t stand a chance. Although the three or so tanks and 5-6 wraiths fought bravely, they were slaughtered nonetheless. About a minute after he saw the last building in his main explode (a refinery) and the screen go black, KD knew the game was over and consented. Although he had the beginnings of an expansion in the upper left hand corner, he knew it was hopeless.

Before I close my report, I most impose on you the single most important aspect of this game: Resources. The only reason KD lost the game was because of lack of resources. Although on an equal skill level with his partner, KD only had a total of two resource nodes being mined at one time. DE, on the other hand, had at least four going at one point. Because he had double the income of his counterpart, DE was the inevitable victory.

Thank you for reading my second Starcraft battlereport. I hoped you enjoyed it-hell, I haven't ever had this much fun before while writing a report. This is without a doubt one of the most interesting games I have ever had the fortune of seeing. Be prepared to see alot more games played by these two excellent players in the future ;). Unforunately, I may not be able to submit another report in a while (Goddamn Asshole parents), so don't expect another one for awhile. This report took me several days to put together and write-ALL of my other reports took a day or less to complete, but surprisingly I have been very patient. Well, time to go. I have homework to do and a friend to get drunk with. Make sure you leave a comment. Hasta la vista,
