This is a report that has been sitting on my desktop for quite some time now, and I just kept putting it off. However, I’m sick today, and since we all know how fun that is, I decided to finish it, because if I move anything else except my fingers I’ll throw up. Basically everything below this line was written a long time ago.

Hey everone, I finally decided that I should write another battlereport. Unfortunately, I haven’t played StarCraft for quite a while now, and my rust is even worse than it always was. So, after getting tossed around by random nohunters regulars, I had the chance to play in a really fun FFA the other day, so I figured I could continue what I had originally planned to be a series of battlereports on FFAs featuring players from Nohunters, even though I only ever got one report out. If you would like to read it, click here.

Gay Alert!

Most of you know that an FFA in Nohunters is about as flamboyantly gay as mattzarella, and this one was no exception. Now that you have been warned, on with the NH FFA Chronicles: FFA II!

Doesn’t this pic just make you want to cum yourself?

This game was played on Killing Fields, an asymmetric and seemingly random map. It has 8 mains, all on one large continent. Randomly placed all around the continent are high ground expansions with both gas and minerals that are only accessible through flying. In the center of the map, there is a large cluster of Temple walls, which have many mineral only and gas only expansions dispersed through out them. I can’t really explain it any better than that, so here’s a picture.

I don’t think we’re in the Lost Temple anymore, Toto…

During the opening minutes of the game, the players wished each other good luck, and built up their peon count while scouting the terrain. Shouts of “OMFG its facking huge!” and “If you wanna ally message me!” rang out over the battlefield, before the players settled down into the game, and silence hung over the Killing> Fields.

Decay, ever the turtley terran, built depots, a barracks, and a factory around his minerals in a ring, protecting his mineral line with some tanks and a bunker full of marines. He completed his ring of buildings with four starports and two armories.

Psy took a more orthodox approach to the game, ordering his probes to warp in two robotics facilities and a robotics support bay after his cybernetics core is finished, obviously going for reaver tech.

Lozer also used a regular build, queuing up zealots and dragoons while his citadel and templar archives warp in, allowing him the full range of protoss infantry units.

Avail, like Decay, decided to turtle. All of his buildings were placed very close together, and bunkers, turrets, and tanks were placed strategically throughout the base. He didn’t seem to have a specific strategy in mind, as he built a little bit of everything.

Ling built three factories as soon as his barracks finished building, and immediately began to pump goliaths out of them.

Ender warped himself in a set of stargates when they became available, and began the warping of two scouts when they were finished. He followed them up with a fleet beacon and a third stargate.

Eldritch teched straight to battlecruisers, not even bothering to build himself any meaningful defense until he had built his starport with attached control tower and science facility with attached physics lab.

After another couple of minutes, it became obvious what the plans of each player really were.

no early game harassment, everyone teched straight to this point. Guess it didn’t help that nobody was able to find anyone else until this point either. =/

Several of the players also opted to increase their resource production through expansions. Ling took one of the mineral onlies near the center of the map, and also one of the high ground expansions behind his main. Decay expanded twice as well, once to the unoccupied main in the lower left corner of the map and once to the high ground expansion below his main base. Lozer also expanded to two of the mineral onlies in the center.

Lozer opened the hostilities when he ran his small force of dragoons and a dark templar to Ling’s mineral only expansion, and razed it with no losses. However, with his army that far away from his main, he had left it wide open for someone to attack, and attack they did. Psy razed the entire base with his group of reavers and zealots. The only defense was a lone dark templar, which heroically hacked away at the attackers, but could not do enough damage to stop them. Shortly after his victory, Psy lagged out of the game. =/

Lozer gets raped

Not long after, Lozer was hit again, this time by Avail, who dropped a tank on the temple wall behind Lozer’s first mineral only expansion. The tank succeeded in kilLing two of the goons stationed there before the rest of them took it out.

Ling also decided to get in on the action, sending his first control group of goliaths north into Avail’s main, where they fired upon marines outside while the marines in the bunkers took their toll on the robotic walkers. Then the two of them realized that they were in an NH FFA, and until this point, it actually was a free for all. They decided to fix that, and allied. --;

At the same time, Ender flew his first two scouts towards Decay’s expansion in the unused main, narrowly missing Eldritch’s entire base. They harrassed the scvs working there for a bit, but the little workers hastily erected several turrets, which chased the scouts away for the time being.

During the period of relative calm that followed, Lozer re-expanded back to his old main, and then to another of the mineral onlies, which brought his number of min only expansions up to three. That number was lowered again soon, however, as Ling avenged his own lost expansion by destroying Lozer’s second one with his goliath army. While the second expansion was being razed, Avail dropped more tanks on the high ground near his first one, and this time they succeeded in destroying it. Lozer was really getting raped. =O

Lozer gets raped… again

Ender’s scouts then returned to Decay’s expansion, this time with four carriers as an escort. The carriers made quick work out of the small turret web that had been placed, and began to attack the workers. However, by this point in the game, Decay already had a dozen wraiths built, complete with cloak. Without an observer to aid them, the protoss fleet was quickly dealt with.

This time, ender gets raped

All the players chose this time to power up. Avail, Eldritch, and Ender all finally expanded at almost the exact same time. Eldritch and Ender expanded to the high ground bases behind their mains, and Avail traveled all the way up to the upper right corner, where he floated a command center onto the high ground expansion there. Decay also expanded again at this time, floating two ccs out of his main, one north to an island expansion, and the other east, to another high ground expansion near the cluster of mineral onlies. Ling expanded twice as well, to the mineral only that Lozer had destroyed earlier in the game, and to another min only nearby. Lozer took the short break from being attacked to expand both to the mineral only that Ling had recently killed and to Psy’s old main.

Minimap Update

As you can see in the minimap, Decay had five mining bases, Ling had four, Lozer had four, and Avail, Eldritch, and Ender all had two.

Ender was the first player to re-enter the fray as he took his six carriers and harassed Eldritch’s high ground expansion. They only did cosmetic damage, however, before being chased away by the terran commander’s fleet of seven bcs. Not long after, Eldritch got hit again, this time by Ling. His large army of goliaths plowed through Eldritch’s base, destroying everything quickly and efficiently. The battlecruisers wisely stayed put at the high ground expansion, as they were heavily outnumbered.

While Ling’s army was absent from his base, Ender put his carriers to use again, this time at Ling’s high ground expansion. The goliaths had no hope of returning in time to save the exp, and it fell. The only defenses that were there were a couple of turrets.

During this time, Avail expanded to the mineral only that had been Lozer’s before his tanks on the high Lozer gets hit again…ground had destroyed it. He also dropped a tank and a couple marines off in Lozer’s undefended mineral line at his main, but they were overwhelmed by probes and no defenses were needed.

…and again. Then, to make matters worse for Lozer, Decay decided that his fleet is finally big enough to attack. Twelve wraiths flew north, towards Lozer’s base at Psy’s old main, and twelve wraiths and twelve BCs flew east, towards Eldritch, Ender, and Ling. The first group of wraiths plowed into Lozer’s expansion, only to find it defended by cannons. They retreated to a point where they could attack the probes and the nexus without being hit, razed it, and flew away afterwords. Lozer, after ranting about being teamed up on, began to rebuild there once they were gone.

The other half of Decay’s fleet came upon Eldritch’s final base first. When the blue BCs tried to engage the brown ones, they were met by salvos of Gemini missiles from the unseen wraiths. Eldritch had no detection, and he asked for obs. He and the SCVs that he still had on that high ground exp began to build engineering bays. He floated them around to amuse himself for the rest of the game. Click here to see the first instance of mass ebays in action, courtesy of mattzarella, who claims that Eldritch stole the idea from him.

keke. die.

After leaving Eldritch’s base, Decay’s Battlecruisers continued across the map, until they arrived at Ender’s main, which they promptly began to destroy. Ender responded by sending his own fleet at the ships, but it was no contest. By now, the Battlecruisers were 3/3 in upgrades, and they outnumbered the Carriers two to one. The wraiths also helped, although they had been decimated by a field of cannons on the outer edge of Ender’s base, and not many were left. After the Carriers went down, there were still 10 BCs left, and they set back off to destroy the base. They were interrupted, however, by a lot of goliaths on the march from Ling’s base. The cruisers put up a fight, but they were hopelessly outnumbered by the gollies, which had 3/3 upgrades as well. After Decay’s fleet had been annihilated, the goliaths continued to destroy the base, leaving Ender with his lone high ground expansion, which the goliaths could not reach.

gg =/

Hoping to get back at Ling for the loss in Ender’s base, Decay sent the other group of wraiths, the ones that had flown north to Lozer’s expansion, at the army of goliaths. Unfortunately, they only killed two before their cloaks ran out and they were shot down by a gazillion charon boosted hellfire missiles. =/

Not one to give up an advantage, Ling’s goliaths, with reinforcements from his main, pushed onwards through the old mains of Ender and Eldritch, straight towards Decay’s nearly mined out expansion in the bottom left corner. The base was quickly razed, and the goliaths stood on the site of the old Command Center, gazing north to Decay’s main.

get over here!

Decay, upon seeing how poorly his battlecruisers fared against the gollies in battle, had also begun the production of tanks, which now numbered around twelve. He took the bulk of them and moved them south, towards Ling’s army, escorted by a newly made group of twelve BCs. He seiged the tanks just outside the expansion, and tried to lure the goliaths into their deadly range with the BCs, but Ling did not fall for it. Instead, the goliaths left the way they had come, and made their way back to safer territory.

Ling, obviously finding Ender a nuisance holed up in his high ground expansion, seiged tanks along all the cliff walls of the high ground, and proceeded to comsat up there to spot for the tanks until the expansion was out of commission. Ender was forced into obs mode as well, and he shuttled his probes to join Eldritch’s e-bays at the other high ground exp, where he made mass nexuses for fun.

While he was doing this, Ling expanded twice more, bringing his count to five (one of the mineral onlies had been mined out). One expansion was at yet another mineral only, and the other was at a regular min all of these dead bcs must be costing somebody a fortune. Oh wait…and gas expansion north of his base, between himself and his ally, Avail. He also begins the production of wraiths, to overrun Decay’s fleet of BCs completely. Eventually, when he felt he had a sufficient number of them, Ling flew the wraiths back over to Decay’s base, along with the goliath army, where they met the opposing tank group and the Battlecruiser armada. By now, the BCs were numbering around twenty, and they were definitely a force to be reckoned with. As the two forces collided, the goliaths were quickly massacred by the overwhelming damage of the BCs and the splash damage of the tanks. Unfortunately, however, Decay had never bothered to get comsat, or even an academy, so the wraiths slowly but surely were able to pick off the cruisers as they turned tail and slowly crept home.

Meanwhile, on the northern front, Avail and Lozer continued to duke it out with several small skirmishes between the orange zeals, goons, and templar and the red marines, ghosts, and goliaths. After many unfruitful battles, Lozer tried to play a trump card by sending five carriers at Avail’sright expansion. However, ghosts there locked down all of them, and then, to add insult to injury, Avail continued on to nuke the helpless ships, right inside his own base! The nuke fell, kilLing every unit in the base, including the carriers and ghosts, and lit all of the buildings on fire. When everyone else expressed the usual “OMFG wtf where halp!!”s, Avail responded with a “ ^^ ”.

^^

Back in Decay’s bases, Ling’s wraiths had a wonderful time finding holes in the turret defenses and picking off SCVs and supply depots one by one. Eventually though, newly built comsats and BCs chased them away.

Minimap Update

After building his cruiser number back up to sixteen, Decay flew them back across the map to Ling’s base. One of Ling’s mineral onlies was razed along the way, and Decay expanded there shortly after, as well as to a gas only expansion. When the Battlecruisers met the Goliaths on the open field in front of Ling’s main, all hell broke loose. After a bloody battle, the gollies were defeated, with five damaged BCs remaining. Five more had been made during the battle, and began the trek across the map to join the others. During this time, Ling decided that he was running too low on gas to continue to pump as many goliaths as he had been, and began to pump marines from five barracks to make up for his lack of anti air support. When the BCs were all together, they flew on into Ling’s base, stopping first to destroy another one of his mineral only expansions. As they reached the main, they were able to destroy a good number of the small, unupgraded marines that were standing around by the barracks, and a couple of the barracks as well. It wasn’t long, however, before the goliaths and wraiths showed up, and finished off the already weakened fleet.

If at first you don’t succeed…

While Decay’s Battlecruisers were attacking Ling in the south, Lozer made another hit on Avail’s expansion in the north (which he had repaired and begun to re-mine) with more carriers. This time, there weren’t enough ghosts around, and the expansion fell to the little screaming interceptors.

In retaliation, Avail sent his entire ground army, which consisted of goliaths and tanks as well as marines and ghosts, straight into Lozer’s main. After being constantly harassed the entire game, the protoss commander just didn’t have enough resources to keep adequate defenses inside his base, and it fell, along with most of his tech and troop production buildings. Lozer responded by expanding to the high ground behind his former main, as well as to a low ground expansion right next to it.

At this point, one of the observers made a remark that Lozer was winning (sarcastically apparently, since he had been continually getting raped by everyone). Decay, thinking they were serious, set off with his BCs to the nearest orange base, the one at Psy’s old main. A carrier or two and a few cannons were all that guarded, and Lozer took another punch in the stomach. To add insult to injury, Avail chose to attack Lozer again at the same time, hitting the new low ground expansion. Lozer sent all of his remaining forces at them, which were mostly carriers and goons, but as they arrived, the red ghosts unleashed a salvo of lockdown missiles, and the protoss army was rendered helpless. With a cry of disgust, Lozer left the game (and then bitched about how unfair it was on f m for the next half hour =P ).

Lozer gets raped yet again

Ling again began the goliath conga march towards Decay’s main, accompanied by his marines. They stopped along the way only to destroy Decay’s mineral and gas only expansions, which had no defenses at all. When they arrived at the base, Ling used comsat to check how many cruisers were there, and saw about a dozen. Little did he know, however, that Decay had another control group of the large capital ships waiting at one of his high ground expansions nearby. When the teal army attacked, it was hit from both sides by the battlecruisers, and got slaughtered.

Then Decay spotted a large group of Ling’s tanks moving out towards his base. He positioned his cruisers on a ledge where they could fire on the hapless tanks without exposing themselves to counter fire from marines or goliaths. After positioning them, he unfortunately looked back to his base. Unfortunate, because the tanks were just the bait, and a group of wraiths flew in and killed several BCs before Decay could figure out what was going on and comsat them.

At this point, Decay began to run low on gas, and it was obvious that he would not be able to make many more battlecruisers. He took a note out of Ling’s book, and began to produce marines like there was no tomorrow. Unfortunately, he did not upgrade them, so they were about as worthless as tits on a chicken. When Ling attacked at Decay’s main yet again, he was fended off by these marines and the last eight BCs that Decay could make.

Realizing that he was not going to be able to take Ling from the front, Decay decided to try and circle around through the north, through Avail’s bases, and come at Ling from above, where he wasn’t expecting it. After all, Lozer and Avail had been fighting the whole time, so there was a good chance that Avail wouldn’t have enough of an army to fend off the eight 3/3 Battlecruisers. Unfortunately, when they arrived at Avail’s base, they were struck by lockdowns, and then finished off by Ling’s wraiths. Now the unholy alliance between Ling and Avail was laid bare. The wraiths moved on to Decay’s high ground expansion to the right of his main, and easily destroyed it. They then tried to harass at his main, but a massive amount of marines and comsat chased them off. Not long after, however, a hundred gajillion goliaths showed up from Ling’s base, and they made the massive amount of marines into a massive amount of blood. With no more resources or troops, Decay conceded the game.

all that blood…

Winner: ZerG~LinG and Avail (although if pitted against each other in the end, Ling would have no doubt won)

GG to all of the players, it was a lot of fun, especially since this was my first real FFGay since coming back to SC and NH. Oh, and it really wasn’t that unfair that Ling and Avail allied (although it was pretty gay), since they never attacked together, except at the end after I was already screwed. All the alliance did for them was ensure that they were safe from attacks from each other, which would have to have come from all the way across the map anyway.
