"Don't really get the game and this monitor is darker than my dog's ass (if you need to ask...) but I'd still give it a 9 on account of the high writing quality." -maareek

| Zergling corrals, psi-storm, and killing the trash talker! | | | Author: | | | IP: | XXXX | | Date: | 07/17/99 02:07 | | Game Type: | Starcraft | | Labels: | Starcraft(1), Text Only(1) | | Report Rating: , # of Ratings: 3, Max: 8, Min: 6 Lifetime Rating for -Flathead-: 6.5588 | | Entering the realm of the public game can be fun at times, challenging on that rare of occasion, and once in a bloo moon, funny or very angering. You decide which kind of a night it was for good 'ol -Flathead-, here.
-Flathead- started the game on challenger, and idled his time for a bit until his opponent who shall rename nameless and faceless (to be herewith called BNL for battlenet lamer) joined and said that the game should commence.
-Flathead-, seeing his opponent pick Zerg, picked Protoss and started at the bottom start position. BNL started at the top. -Flathead- had been persuing his bad matchups as of late, trying to get better at these. Since BNL's record was 54-30, there was at least a chance he wasn't a terrible player...And then it happened
"I'm gonna kick yer sorry ass." from BNL.
"Uh, OK." -Flathead-'s standard response to taunts.
BNL, thinking that Challenger was small enough a map, decided to 6-pool his worthy opponent to keep him on his toes. Luckily, -Flathead-'s scouting probe saw the 6 'lings coming, and -Flathead- quickly took stock:
13 probes, one zealot just started, probbly will warp just before they get here. He qued up another zealot.
-Flathead- quickly made a little clump of probes right next to the gateway, and then put the zealot at the front. Just as the troops were positioned, the 'lings came. One whack from the zealot, and -Flathead- commanded the probes to attack and the zealot to move back. Needless to say the zerglings were a little confused, which resulted in three of them being killed by the probes alone, becuase they were running about like lunatics trying to get at the zealot. A few swipes of the psi-blade, and one injured zergling ran off with his life intact.
-Flathead-, liking to taunt rushers, typed "Yer in trouble" into the chat window. Snickering, He got an answer of "F*$&#& prick". This caused a bit more snickering.
It wasn't long before there were 5 zealots chomping at the bit for some killing. -Flathead- sent them on attack, and found that BNL had built a second hatch and a hydra den by the gimme gas geyser on challenger. Sadly for BNL, the geyser was unprotected by sunkens, so the zealots got to whack at it until it was dead. Evidently BNL had been using his larvae for something besides zerglings...
"Uh oh, lost a little steam, errr gas, there huh?"
"Killing my gas vents is a cheesy tactic", said BNL
Gleefully laughing, -Flathead- discovered two more things right after the first geyser was killed 1) The *other* geyser was completely unprotected by sunkens and 2) His worthy, yet clueless opponent was already morphing a lair. LOL!!!! The second geyser was down before you could say lurker rush.
-Flathead- had already warped the citadel and was working on legs for his growing army of zealots and dragoons, so he warped an archives, started on templars and psi-research, and waited for the lurker rush to come. Confidence grew and grew until there were 7 templars w/8 or 9 storms ready to go. Then, 5 or 6 overlords flew over the base.
Psi storm popped some of the troops as they unloaded. BNL was smart enough, however, to keep the overlords full of lurkers at the back. 10 lurkers unloaded in all on this day, and burrowed as the last of the support troops were being killed. Unfortunately, the drop had happened very fast and most of the probes were killed before they could run away. Some by storm (friendly fire), some by dropped hydras. -Flathead- quickly took stock.
All of the lurkers were still alive and whacking on his pylons and gateways. Psi-storms popped 7 of the 10, which really decreased the rate at which they damaged the buildings. -Flathead- would have to wait for the observatory to warp in or for three more storms, which would come probably before the first observor. He only had 4 probes on minerals and 3 on gas at this point, which was very very thin after the lurker attack. Then he realized something: That must have been nearly the entirety of the zerg army that was just killed with storm and minimal troop losses. There were 12 zealots and 6 dragoons sitting around waiting for orders. And order them he did!!
The Protoss army, backed by a couple of archons from depleted templars, slammed into the zerg defenses. He had only mustered 12 hydras and a few sunkens, which was not enough to stop the growing wave of protoss troops. The Zerg main began to collapse.
"You couldn't win a REAL game of BW" said BNL.
"Ummmm, what's a real game of BW if that wasn't one?" says -Flathead-
Sadly, -Flathead- didn't receive a response.
Observers were beginning to cover the whole map, and it was apparent that this was the only zerg base. The double gas lurker drop would have worked, they discussed, had even ONE of the gas vents stayed alive. -Flathead- belives that this is true, and mentions that maybe those well place sunkens should be well placed near the gas vents if he wants to use early lurkers as a successful strat next time.
Gnight all. |
