Tonight was the night, ladies and gentlemen. Tonight, Fractal_Wave would face off with the leader of Team NoSkill, Linq.
This was the start of our second best-of-three series. I won the first one, 2-1. Linq was out for blood.
We arrange the game on ICQ, meet on the GX server, and begin the best & longest trash talking session i have ever had the joy of taking part it. The insult fly fast and furious, extending well into the game.
Vital Statistics
The Map: Lost fackin' Temple.
(Linq's choice not mine)
The Playas:
Fractal_Wave: Randoms to Red Protoss, 9:00
[NoSkill]Linq: Randoms to White Protoss, 3:00
(as much as i am tempted to write Linq in white text, i wont;)
We Begin
The game starts with a bang, as me & Linq(or is it Linq & I?) tear into each other with a vengance. Verbally that is. Choice insults like "ass smuggler" and "goat lover" fly back and forth as we speculate on each others ancestors, mothers, and sexual perversities.
During the melee, I do a boring old build: pylon, gate, gate, assimilator (you could make sooo many sexual puns off assimilator...but i won't. Damn i'm restrained). I get 2 zeals out, build another plyon, and send the building probes out to see what he/it can see.
Probe-boy scout 12:00 and finds nothing, then moves on to 3:00 and is accosted by 2 of Linqs scouting zeals enroute! This is bad. I've just layed down a cybernetics core, which leave me with little in the way of zealots. I run my 2 zeals to my ramp, and begin training 2 more.
Mean while, Probe-Boy goes to football practice inside Linq's base. Broken-field running specifically. He runs left, center, right, scouting the whole darn base, and makes it out alive! (no thanks to a zealot on the ramp).
He brings back valube recon: 2 gates, forge & assimilator.
Synopsis: D-temp paranoid. Teching to something though.
I send him running back to my ramp to make a pylon for a sheild battery. He ran into 2 more zealots on his way, and again barely made it out alive. I gave him no malt liquor. Probes don't drink.
Ye Olde Probe throws down a pylon by my ramp, and then the first 2 zealots come a-calling. But Linq doesn't want to play, he wants to learn. His zeals run past mine, and head on into my base for a look-see...and are stopped cold my my two new zeals popping out of my twin gateways.
Owned.
I've got 4 zeals which I send to my ramp. I start building a forge, but switch it to a robotics facilty as my cyber-core's done. I feel like some zealot-popping reavers today. I keep up the zealot production and lay down a 3rd gateway, as I don't know how many more zealots Linq has heading my way.
Turns out he has 4 zeals after me. But again, my lucky stars kick in, and they arrive just as my 2 next zeals pop out. I "flee" my 4 zeals in terror, and Linq stops to beatdown my pylon. Then his 4 zealots charge boldly into my base. To be met by 6 of their white bretheren, who open a can of whoop-@ss on them. I'm left with 3 zeals, one almost dead. My robo facility finishes. So does gateway #3
Pimped, Part the First
Then, i see a truley disgusting, disguting sight. A photon cannon. Off to the side of my gates. No, no...not one Photon. LOTS. About 6 or so. They're not in range of my gates. Yet. But a white probe is buildin another pylon to get the into range.
Fractal_Wave: aw fack
[NoSkill]Linq: who's your daddy?
I panic. I throw my zeals at the new plyon. They die futiley. I start build a Support Bay. Now, more than ever, i need my reavers. I start with mo' zeals. 1 gets you 5 he'll charge in my front door now that he's beating me to death with my own back door.
His pylon finishs, and two cannons are now pounding on my 3rd gate. Aw shit. The Wave gets owned. again.
[NoSkill]Linq: come on
[NoSkill]Linq: say it for the screenshot
[NoSkill]Linq: "linq is my daddy"
Fractal_Wave: never say die
This, however, is usless heroism. My support bay finishes. I frantically start my reaver. Then 3 white zeals crash into my 2 zeals. This is gonna suck.
I say a mantra, summon my inner Zileas, and micro the hell out of my 2 zeals. It finishes with one of his zeals pouding on my 3rd gate...as 2 more of my zeals pop out of my other 2 and send him to the meet Adun. I hope Adun beats him up.
YYYYYYEEEEEEEEEESSSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!
My reaver finishes. It begins blowing the heck out of the cannons. I begin to breath again. Then 4 white zeals come charging in to remove my reaver. Sheeeit.
My 2 zeals move 2 intercept. We tie. I have one near-dead zeal left over. But my reaver has given me breathing room.
And it killed the facking probe. I lay down another robo-facility, and begin training another reaver.
Then, the inevitable happends. Another probe scurries into the shadow of the photon cannons, and begins building another pylon. And two gateways.
Fractal_Wave: That's disgusting
[NoSkill]Linq: ;0
I'm up to 4 zeals by the time my reaver pops out and goes to slaughter some cannons. My 2nd robo-facility finishes, and 2 more reavers are ordered up. Then linq's offensive gates finish, and I notice something. The far side of his gates look to be away from the cannons...I send in a zealot to test the idea, and YES! My 4 zeals are pouding happily away on his gateway. My Reava is blowing through cannons, and IT KILLS THE LEAD PYLON!!!
This means that the gates are unpowered, and so are a pack of cannons. I breath a sigh of relief. 2 more reavers pop out, and I add them to the fray. I get 1 more reaver building...and see another flash of white near my base!
Fractal_Wave: GO AWAY!
[NoSkill]Linq: hehehe
My 4 zeals go to "raise a little hell" there's 1 pylon, and 4 cannons warping in. My bad boys go straight for the pylon. The cannons warp in. I am on my knees praying. 1 zealot dies. 1 more zealots dies. I re-aim my reavers (4 now!), and in my haste i order them to move beside a cannon instead of attack it. My zeals kill the pylon. 2 left, one in the red. I lose all but one reaver, but I remove the infestation of cannons from my base.
Fractal_Wave: Now, with that disposed of, we can play a REAL game of starcraft
[NoSkill]Linq: heh
Pimped, Part the Second
Wow. I'm amazed at how long i've survived. I get an observatory and a forge (I fear Dtemps), and start cranking out anothe reaver and a shuttle. I intended to go hunting.
I build 2 more zeals and send this 4-pack scouting. They move off to explore the 12:00 main.
Linq has an unhealthy obsession with photon cannons. I am met at the 12:00 ramp by 5 pylons, and 3 cannons warping in. My zealots scream in annoyance, kill the probe as it begins warping in cannon #4. They then begin bashing on cannons. I shift-queue them up to take down the cannons in succession, and go home to handle production. My observatory finishes, and I order up 2 observers.
The zealots...these guys are my heros. I idolize the protoss zealot now. My last zeal blows the last cannon to smithereens, has 7 HP left, and then gets killed by Linq's probes. I vow revenge. My shuttle finishes. My 2nd reaver finishes. I begin to laugh manically. I think I might win this after all. I begin research on Shuttle & Observer speed. My reavers beside Linq's 12:00 nexus, and begin cleaning up. His probes run away. It's a very, very gratifing moment.
I decide to take a cue from linq, and I lay down a pylon at my natural. I'm up to 3 zeals my main now. And lo and behold, what should come after my pylon but 3 of Linq's faithful zealots. They are about to be shown the error of there ways. My zeals charge out and take'em down, losing 2 of their number
But they got my probe. What a pain. I send down another probe, 2 more zeals to reinforce. A good choice, as 2 more Linq-loving zealots come to test my defenses. I some how manage to kill his zeals and then kill my own pylon in here. Not sure how. A misguided attack command, no doubt.
Meanwhile, my twin reavas remove the nexus, and are shuttle to their next target: all the pylons @ the 12:00 ramp. My reavas drop and begin systimatically reducing the Protoss power sources to rubble.
[NoSkill]Linq: Owned=(
Fractal_Wave: hell hell hell yes
My new Nexus finishes. My expansion has 1 cannon, an assimilator, 3 zeals and 2 goos defending it. And I have
5
minerals left. My probes rush over from my mined-out main.
Life giving minerals & gas flows into my coffers. It's time to win.
But first, Linq decides to try ANOTHER cannon push on my expansion. I fly back my reaver, and they remove it casually. You'd think he'd realize that it won't work by now. ;P
Wrath is Wanted
Linq decides to send in the clones. 8 zeals bumrush my expansion, lookin' to wreck some havoc. I return my reavers in a hurry. I think this is gonna be close. My 3 zeals go down, but each take an enemy zealot with them. My goons are being beat on by psi-blades when the cavalry arrives. My 2 reavas unload explosive scarabs into the 5 remaining zeals, taking 3 out. The remaining 2 charge the reavas, as I retreat them into their escorting shuttle. Alas, one is caught on the ground and killed. As Linq's zeals run back to the goons and the cannon, my reava drops, fires and it's cybernetic brain rejoices when then last 2 zeals go up in blue smoke.
I lay down a templar archives, get 4 observers wandering around, and get a few random zeal & goons out. I finish leveling the 12:00 pylons. I see that linq is just getting his natural online. I begin training a pair of dtemps, aka "Probe-Killers Xtrodinaire".
It's then that 3 of Linq's dtemps attempt to sneak by my expansion, aiming for my undefended main. I send my observers and expansion-defeding dragoons following them, and meet them with 2 zeals & 2 dtemps when they hit my base proper. They run around looking for something to kill, and settle on the 1 cannon I have around my tech buildings.
I'm not even going to tell you the outcome of that match up.
Oh my God, I think I won
I have: 2 reavers (one brand, spanking new!) with 10 scarabs each over the rear of Linq's main with an observer. There are 3 Linq zeals guarding the area. I hold off the reaveing. For now.
I send my 2 dtemps to attack Linq's expansion at his natural. I shuttle in 2 zealots to Linq's expansion, and, in a fit of tactical brilliance, use the 2 zeals to kill probes. This draws in Linq last 3 zeals, that were guarding against a drop.
As my dark templar tear into the zeals, my reaver drop on his rear and begin tearing into his main.

Lessons & Stuff
#1.) My 'toss micro either owns or sucks...Ask YourRoleModel about our 2nd game, where I killed 3 of my own templar and my own shuttle with a single, well-placed psi-storm
#1.)a) Microing zealots is fun & very useful.
#2.) The word "Reava" is almost as cool as "Lurka"
#3.) Never, ever, ever, give up.
#4.) Never, ever, ever, consider a player dead until he's stopped twiching.
#4.)a) Twitching can win games
#5.) Linq, for the love of god, you can do things other than a cannon push!
#6.) Linq's not my daddy.
#7.) I need to go to sleep
#8.) I need to take screenshots
#9.) Kill pylons. Especially those pylons powering 6 cannons & 2 gateways.
#10.) Scout your plateau first, for the LOVE OF GOD, scout your plateau first.
#11.) Don't wait until you have only 405 minerals left before xpanding.
#12.)Linq shoud have expanded like a virus while i was dealing with those cannons
#13.) You could make all sorts of funny thins out of "ASSimiliator"
And that, ladies and gentlemen, is that. Hope you liked it. No pix, as per usual. I can't seem to remeber to take them while i'm fighting for my life. I wonder why. =)
Linq, I don't think I missed anything. Not sure if all the quotes are right...
Linq is fun to play. More fun to beat Go check out www.no-skill.net, his Clan website(shameless plug).
Game 2 is tomorrow. Wish me luck
apologies for anystupid HTML errors I make
