Map: Winter Conquest (I really like this map..)
Our participants(both random):
SnowSquall: Terran, top left.
Quinten~McCloud: Zerg, top right.
This will actually be a 2 game BR, but both have
the same theme. (broken up into 2 posts)
I'm happy to get terran. I love terran. It's
too bad I didn't find out that Q was zerg until
way late since my SCV (Stupid Construction Vehicle)
was cruising around the bottom tier of starting
points looking for chicks to pick up.
I scouted with peon #7, feeling the urge to know
thy enemy early. I went with my normal build of
8 depot and 10 rax, 12 rax.
Meanwhile, my SCV remembers the original purpose
of his mission, and steams up the ramp of the
top right starting spot and runs smack dab into...
...a hatchery??
Shit!
He was already working his 3rd hatch, and by the
time I got a half-assed group of 10 marines, 4 firebats
and 4 medics, he had sunkens lined up along the top
of the ramp. My forced milled around, decided to
practice their dancing skills, and flirt with the
medics. The result being that I just couldn't
get up that damn ramp, the hatchery and the sunkens
choked it off very effectively, and while he only
had a few hydralisks behind it at this point, it
was more than enough. I take out some random
forces and wax a sunken, but eventually my units
go to the great CC in the sky.
Memo to self: Practice micro'ing more.
An SCV gets working posthaste on a factory, probably
because I told him I'd let him be the first tank
commander. I have 2 bunkers at my ramp, and my
first tank rolls off and seiges up. With my comsat
finally fully charged up, I take a peek in his base,
to see what I expected to see. Lurkers.
Great. I get an ebay ASAP and stick a turret inbetween
my bunkers. Just before I do that, he tried to run
2 lurkers up my ramp. As they were getting shot at,
they burrowed, but I had anticipated this and was
ready to comsat.
The lurker death sound is so satisfying in times like
these.
I test run a marine outside of my base, and he dies
faster than you can say "containment" as lurker spines
rip him to pieces.
In the meantime, I've built 2 starports, and I have
4 dropships. I figure if he's containing me, he's
skimping at home. I load up 26 marines and 6 medics
and drop his main. Using comsat twice, I make sure
I kill the lurkers he had buried there first (always,
always, ALWAYS kill those damn lurkers first),
and my stimboys lay into the 2 lairs and a hatch.
Unfortunately he's not dead at this point.
I find his expansion at the top center position...
2 tanks and 4 marines take great offense to the
environmental damage of the creep, and do some
cleaning.
He's still not dead. Furthermore, he's got
random lurkers buried around the map, which
are eating up my scouting marines. I scout
around with a few wraiths I had built, find
overlords, pick them off, and find he has
3(!) other bases, all at the bottom 3 starting
spots. With hydras in them. With lurkers.
Meanwhile, we find out why SnowSquall still is
a newbie: He hasn't expanded. Of course,
he had my natural closed off for the longest
time, but that's no excuse; I had dropships.
I realize with some horror that my lazy-ass SCVs
are sitting around playing cards at my main.
I was so wrapped up in dropping his main and
getting rid of his other expansion I hadn't
paid attention to either expanding, or building
more troops.
Can we say, screwed, boys and girls? Man, lurker
containment sucks. And then I even had the
method to break out of it, and ignored it for
the longest time.
To make a long story short, I called it a gg, and
conceeded. He had rebuilt, secured his bases,
and I was in a lull. By the time I realized I had
to get sci vessels, it was just too late.
Very important lessons learned:
--Always, always, ALWAYS keep building stuff. I
was so engrossed in dropping his main that I
neglected to build more units.
--Expand however you can. I had dropships, I could
have easily took a few scvs and some marines to a
site.
--Doing something right and doing something wrong
doesn't balance out. It usually means you lose.
I dropped his main perfectly. Too bad it meant
that I ignored expanding and keeping my eye out
on other expansions by him.
This was a game I should've won. I broke the
containment the right way, but just simply didnt
follow through on it.
