I HAVE AN IMAGE!!!!!! (only 1 and it really sucks, but hell, its an improvement =)
PRE-GAME
I was looking for a 1v1 in NH (yet again), and SavageTeaCup (man his name is hard to type correctly), who had come on at EXACTLY the same time as me and I saw him in the same channel when we signed on, accepted the challenge. We gave our "gl, hf"'s and I added an "isux" and the game began.
Map: Rivalry
2Inadequate: Terran, bottom left
VS
SavageTeaCup: Zerg, top right
EARLY GAME
I started out with my typical Terran build, 8 depot, 10 rax, 12 rax, 14 ref. While I was scouting, I allowed myself to get some excess minerals, so I put down an academy and engineering bay at the same time, and put 4 on gas. Deon ran around, and found the deadly zerg scum. Once again, I had been called upon to remove these unrelenting zerg. I knew that I had done it before, and that it could be done again.
Deon didn't get to make it up the ramp because of zerglings, so he stayed at the mineral natural. I floated one of my barracks to my choke, and constructed a bunker and turret. While deon was scouting a bit more with deon, I was completely shocked, so shocked that I could have fainted, to see a lurker morphing. I cannot express in words how shocked I was =)
My choke was pretty much lurker proof, I felt, especially with marine range upgrading, so I started a CC and a factory. Good thing I set up my choke like I did, because 6 lings and 4 lurkers came a'knocking soon after. He forgot to burrow his lurkers, and when he finally did, 1 was dead. The marines kept pounding, and all but 1 lurker died, which retreated back into my natural.
Battle breakdown:
6 zerglings and 4 lurkers
VS
4 marines in a bunker with 3 marines outside
Results:
1 lurker left, 4 marines dead, burning bunker in yellow
MID GAME
I continued my teching to sci vessels, and my CC finished. I floated it up to the mid-left expansion, and lay down a bunker, barracks, and turret there and got it running full swing. SavageTeaCup also expanded a bit earlier than I to the mid-right position. Mr. Burns popped out, and I sent him out to my natural. Surprise, surprise, 6 lurkers are burrowed there. I irradiate 1, and my 2 tanks at my choke pound on another. The remaining 4 lurkers retreat.
Soon after, a hydra starts pounding on my expansion, and I kill it with ease. He also brings in a lurker drop on my main. I run my scvs and irradiate both lurkers and the overlord. He kills all my gas scvs and a few mineral miners, but 11 scvs got away and begin mining again.
I put down another rax, putting my total to 3, and another engineering bay. My upgrading begins, and I start pumping marines, vessels, and tanks. My expansion is running smoothly, when:
20 hydras and 2 lurkers pay a social visit.
I have 1 bunker with 4 marines in it and a turret.
Hoboy. I'm in trouble.
Immediately, I send almost all my scvs to surround the bunker and begin repairing it. The marines inside desparately begin firing on the invading hydras, and my bunker is getting repaired like mad by 7-8 scvs. the 2 lurkers show up after the turret is destroyed and burrow, killing all my repairing scvs. However, the marines in the bunker kill all the hydras and 1 lurker. I run out of scans, and 1 lurker remains, pounding on my bunker.
44, 45, 46, 47, 48, 49, 50!!!!!!!!!
My comstat reveals the marauding lurker and kills it, leaving a large splot of blood slightly resembling a rose in full bloom.
Phew.
Battle breakdown #2:
20 hydras and 2 lurkers
VS
a bunker and 7-8 scvs
Results:
whole attack force destroyed, all repairing scvs destroyed, 1 burning bunker
Yes, that's right, 1 BUNKER HELD OFF 20 HYDRAS AND 2 LURKERS!!!!!!!
I savor my victory and start building scvs again, laying down a factory and replacing my turret. As my machine shop is building, I see 4 overlords heading in the direction where my bunker is NOT stationed.
Super crap.
I bring over 3 vessels, and start irradiating like mad. My factory is destroyed, along with my barracks, and several scvs. With my bunker out of range, the marines unload and get slaughtered. This time, the bunker goes down, when Mr. Burns lays down the final irradiate which finishes the remaining 3 hydras.
Super phew.
Battle breakdown #3:
16 hydras
VS
Mr. Burns with 2 other Science Vessels, 4 marines
Results:
All hydras gone, several scvs destroyed, factory destroyed, barracks destroyed, machine shop standing =)
Well, all I can say about that battle is sci vessels totally RAPE zerg, especially bunched up zerg.
AGAIN I have to get my expansion running. I also get my natural online, sending all my scvs from my dry main to it. SavageTeaCup has taken the upper middle expansion, and hatches several scourge to take out my "damned sci vessels." I knew this due to comstat, and parked supposedly all of my vessels over my bunker. However, I did not see 2 of them hanging on the outskirts of my 1st expansion, and they were blown to bits. Good thing I had Mr. Burns sitting above my bunker. He was spared.
At the time, I had not made a SINGLE attack on my worthy zerg foe. I decided to change that. =) Immediately, 12 marines and 6 tanks were called to duty to take out the right middle zerg infestation. Backed by 2 Science Vessels, my menacing force approached. I reached the bridge, and seiged 2 of my tanks. The rest remained in tank mode. The evil zerg cerebrate sent in several zerglings and hydralisks, but I was able to destroy the hatchery before my force was wiped out. At this point, I lay down 2 more barracks, and just started pumping out M&M's like crazy. My starport and factory were continually pumping tanks and sci vessels. When I had 4 tanks, 36 3/3 marines, and 12 medics, and 3 science vessels, I decided it was time to clean off the evil zerg from this territory.
He finally had expanded to his natural, and I made it my first priority to eliminate this base first. My tanks set up, and he sent in all of his lings/hydras to try to stop me, all to no avail. He called "GG" and asked for vision. He gave a last ditch effort and tried some stuff with his defilers, but it didn't work. And the day belonged to me, as my marines proceeded to destroy the main hive cluster. The more the zerg come, the harder I will try to eliminate them, and keep the territory called Rivalry free of alien invasions.
Lessons Learned:
Terran are a race that do not have to attack early to win. It is much better to expand and use map control to win, especially when lurkers/dtemps are used for containment.
Terran are not imbalanced, they are just hard to learn.
I can now play ladder with my new record! =)
