Inspired by the reports of JSH, I have been playing regular SC for a couple days. He is absolutely right. Most of the players on now are complete newbies. Unfortunately, they've discovered BGH :( Its a bit relaxing, not having to worry about lurkers, DTs, and the everpresent Valkeries :)

I joined into a public game on Triumverate. The maker of the game said that he was waiting for someone else. I asked why he didn't use a private game. He seemed confused. An obvious newbie. His friend joined a second later. I suggested that we play the two of them v me. I had just played a couple 2v2s with complete newbie partners, so I figured this wouldn't be much different. They agreed, saying they would 'teach me a lesson.' We agreed to an allied vic. They had both picked Terran. I went with Zerg, figuring the best bet would be to finish one off quickly. So the game was

Me Zerg, top left

vs

Brown Terran, middle right
Teal Terran, bottom left

(map note: Tri. has three island starts. There is also a V of land that runs from top right, middle left, bottom right, with expansions at the three points)

I was a bit lost in SC, and had modified my ling/lurk rush into a ling/muta rush. Pool on 7, drone, OL, 6 lings, sunken. I sent my lings off to wipe out one of my enemies. It was about this time that I discovered that Triumverate was an island map. D'oh :P I parked the lings in a corner and they never moved for the rest of the game.

The next couple minutes were franctically spent trying to catch up on gas production and tech. I sent my first three mutas out to scout. I discovered Brown first and sent my mutas to harrass his peon line. No such luck. My mutas were driven off with one loss before he lost any peons. I tried the same with teal and lost the other two.

Time for plan B: map domination. I expanded to the upper right and put up a hydra den. Twelve range/speed/armor upgraded hydras were produced from the two hatches at my main and shuttled to mainland. Just in time; brown had started to expand in the lower right. As my hydras attacked, brown hit them with cloaked wraiths. He managed to kill all but four by time I got an OL down there. They wraiths and the CC were swiftly killed.

Taking advantage of a resources backlog, I put down a fourth hatch at my main and started pumping mutas. Twelve were sent to the top right corner in preperation of an assult on brown. Six more and another twelve hydras were sent to secure the middle V expansion. Once again it was a timely assult. Teal had just finished a CC there. Teal was slightly better prepared. He had a pair of tanks, a turret, some marines, and an unfinshed bunker. Alas, it availed him not :) His expansion was overrun with minimal losses. I simply parked my forces there.

My greater spire finished seconds later. I sent in 6 guardians, 10 mutas, and a pair of OLs to wipe out the Terran presence. As my guardians started attacking, Brown sent in a wraith pack to hit them. I countered easily with my mutas. This was the last organized resistance of the entire game. I swept through his base, losing about half my air force in the process to a multitude of turrets.

Here's the funny part. Teal kept sending wraiths to support Brown. That, in itself, is not a bad thing. BUT... he sent them ONE AT A TIME. Half were killed in one shot by my attacking mutas, and half were killed when they passed over my occupying force at the middle expansion.

As the last of Brown's buildings fell, I was wondering why he wasn't eliminated. A quick scan of the minimap revealed that I had missed a depot when I wiped his expansion. I figured I would just leave him in to let him see his partner crushed.

I paused for a minuted to rebuild my air force, adding a pair of queens and some scourge. Then I repeated the process with teal, with the same result. It was now a 1v1 and I had just finished a costly assult, and still I was ahead. About halfway through Teal's base Brown called me a jerk and disced. Teal was much nicer. He waited until he only had a couple buildings left, and said gg. Then he disced :( Even though I didn't get a win, it was still a nice victory.

Here's where they went wrong. I noticed as I was crushing them horribly that they each had a pair of dropships and several idle tanks in their bases. My base and expansion were never well defended. Had one of them dropped me, or if they (gasp) worked together, I could have been in a world of hurt. I never had to defend once during the game, leaving me free to attack with abandon.

A second mistake: no sci vessels. Even though Teal had a sci facility and Brown had three, they never produced a single one. They did make lots of Wraiths, but they never grouped them effectively and they never tried to drive off the spotting OLs.

Sorry again, no screenshots.
