Let the kibbing begin!!
In case you don't know what kibbing is, it's the term used to describe the blowing apart of your enemies in Quake.
Syphon's strategy-mass carrier
Dread's strategy-to turtle his way past Syphon's defenses
First Contact-I sent my 12th scv out to scout around and came across Syphon's base fairly quickly. A few comscans later and I knew exactly what to expect from him, carriers.
Syphon discoveries my position much later in the game with a wondering zealot force.
Since Syphon and I are the only ones who know what Mega Hunters looks like exactly, everybody should have a ruff idea from playing the map Hunters, I'll need to fill you in on a few tactical aspects. There are quite a few cliffs scattered about that make for great areas to drop tanks or upgraded dragoons. The middle of the map basically becomes an arena, so if I say a fight took place somewhere, chances are that's where. If Syphon says something demeaning, he's only joking. I deliberately planned this battle to be of colossal proportions so not every little skirmish is mentioned.
Ok, back to the BR. Syphon has now expanded a second time and has the greatest econ at this point. I feel it's my job to fix that. Knowing that he wants to go carrier, I had already built two starports and was working on a fleet of wraiths, at the time I had 8. I load two tanks into a shuttle and head off toward Syphons expansion, but while I was on my way I came across a convoy of probes, but I didn't fall for the temptation. I continued on my way and dispatched a small brigade of 5 marines and 2 medics to deal with the probe migration.
Anyways, my tanks and wraiths reached the expanse so I set em up into siege mode and began to pound the probes that were working below the cliff, but I never ever attacked with my wraiths, I kept those back out of sight. Just as I suspected, 3 carriers flew over the horizon and began to pound the shuttle. Too bad for the carriers I had 8 wraiths. Syphon managed to save 1 of the 3 carriers as my wraiths volleyed missile after missile at them. It's at this point that Syphon begins his long monologue of profane phrases. I'll put anything he says at the bottom of the report, in the "quotes" section.
Meanwhile, my well trained marines, 1/1 with stim and range upgrade, have dealt with the probes migrating. I guess Syphon decided to not go carrier because when I checked his base again with a suicide fly of a wraith, I discovered something very different. I kinda feel sorry for Spicky and I regret not using one of those stupid drop ships for the scouting task. I flew over his base and didn't find any carriers, just a robotics support bay and 3 robotics facilities. No reavers either. For the most part though, I knew what to expect, or did I?
I used this empty time to expand twice more and Syphon also expanded twice more. Home base resources are starting to run low.
Syphon's new strategy-micro his way to an utterly unstoppable psi storm pest.
Dread's new strategy-use wraiths and drop ships to hit and run at all of his expanses.
I prepare for reavers by building a bunker at each expanse and by putting a wraith there as well. Syphon now has over (or so he claims) 8 observers flying all over the place. So he now knows what I'm up to. In defense against my wraiths and shuttles he manufactures a large fleet (12) of corsairs and 1 or 2 scouts.
He makes the first strike, but unfortunately for me, it's not a reaver. Syphon unloads 1 dark templar, 1 archon, and 1 templar into an expanse. The expanse goes down, hard. I now have the right to curse back.
In return for Syphon's gesture of affection, I drop 8 marines, 3 medics, 1 tank, and 1 firebat, into one of his expanses. My troops go down, hard. Psi storm and disruption web are well used and my troops all die, 5 probes perish. I expand twice more now and prepare to hit his main with a quick nuclear strike. Both of us have teched the whole tree and are now in control of everything from arbiters to ghosts. The game has almost lasted an hour so far, and still no signs of a major invasion force, just scattered troops.
Syphon makes a clever move at this next point, he mind controls my scv, and I, stupidly, refuse to let such a thing happen. An all out war breaks lose for control of the scv. I lose 15 marines, 2 goliaths, 7 wraiths, AND a nuke. But I blew the shit out of that shuttle with the scv. Syphon loses an arbiter, 5 corsairs, 5 zealots, and a templar. In retaliation for my insubordination, he Syphon destroys my 7th expanse. I destroyed the one where the shuttle had flown.
Economy Report- I have 8 expanses, Syphon has 9, I would have 9 too if it hadn't been for those stupid drags he sent.
Unit Report- My army consists of fully upgraded marines, wraiths, and ghosts. Syphon invests in dragoons, arbiters and templar, a very expensive army in terms of gas.
End of Part II- Part III will be the titled Ground Zero
