The night was going nicely with several good battles. My favorite was when I Mind Controlled a Battle Cruiser just as Pitt cast D-Matrix on it for me :)

Anyways after watching Vegas pound 2Inadequate we decided Vegas needed a better opponent.

Map Rivalry
Vegas terran bot left (selected)

Pitt zerg top right (selected)

Pitt starts out by scouting with his OL to the left and does a 9 pool and extractor. Ooh looks like a lurker rush

Vegas begins with depot rax gas. On his way to scout the map an SCV notices lings enroute to his base and decides to make a bunker next to his CC for better defense.

Pitt sent his lings right at Vegas without scouting. A sign of map hacking? Well not really. Its a little known fast that the computer tends to set opponents on opposite sides of the map, and Pitt played the odds and won.

Inside vegas's base the lings run right into the bunker! They wisely retreat for an undefended target but one ling is caught and shredded by rifle fire.

Looking around the lings see a refinery that looks promising and attack.

Back home Pitt has a lair completing and a hydra den. Looks like vegas will soon be facing the dreaded lurks.

Back in Vega base a brave marine leaves the safety of the bunker. The lings note the presence of the marine but decide to continue chewing into the refinery and soon it EXPLODES into dust.

Commander Vegas is unphased and during the battle has ordered a factory to go up. He begins construction of another refinery and sends his rines and several scvs to dispatch the lings. In a feenzy of rifle fire and tearing ling claws the lings end up killing the refinery AGAIN!!! SHeesh those were some bad ass lings. FOR THE HIVE!!

A bunker at the choke with a turret and ebay blocking off the entrance are quickly put into place. None to soon as 4 lurkers scurry up the ramp seeking to end it early. Seing the tank / bunker / turret combo with no chance to run past the lurkers retreat to Vegas's natural and burrow, containing vegas for now.....

Back in zerg land pitt has not yet expanded but begins to tech even more with a queens nest and soon after a spire. He then expands to 12 and soon after top left.

Vegas is not idle and produces 2 more rax (total 3) and a starport and sci faculty. Scanners are added on and with a scan Vegas see's a hive morphing and spire almost done.

Soon enough vegas has a sci vessel and begins to push out to his natural. 4 lurks soon become 2 before they are able to RUN AWAY!! Scourge have been morphed in and 2 die to rine fire SECONDS before hitting their intended target. As vegas discovers the 2 lurks that ran and burrowed, he attempts to elimate them via tanks and sci-vessel. He succeeds in getting his sci vessel killed in exchange for one more lurker.

With his added resources from his 2 expansions, Pitt assembles a small air fleet of 6 guards and 5 devourers. He has speedly lords close by for detection. They assemble outside the vega base natural.

Vegas has a turret, a bunker, and 2 tanks walled in behind 3 rax at his natural. Any ground forces will be hard pressed to cause damage here. Pitt though has almost no ground forces. In fact he has forgone the production of troops most of the early and mid game to maximize his economy. Apparently he was feeling safe with his lurker containment.

He begins pushing into vega base with his guards. Vegas panics and attacks with his small standing army of 0/0 rines. Unfortunaely for Vegas its mostly rine-a-cide as the guards superior range and natural armour blows the rines to tiny pieces. In fact no guards are killed in the initial attack by vegas. He realizes he has a wraith and sends it to attack. Enter Devos wraith retreat. Now vegas assembles his entire medarine army while pumping wraiths. He stims and attacks and manages to kill ALL the guards but one which is quickly irradiated.

Back home pitt has not been idle. Mostly pumping drones he has 3 geysers and 3 mineral locations in full swing. Vegas has a nearly dry main. Another round of guards comes in and is able to wipe out vegas natural. Vegas calls GG but then amazingly his small pack of wraiths is able to kill all the guards and the Devo's. Chalk it up to slow rate of fire.

The same pack of wraiths heads up to the top left and vegas also expands to bot right. Vegas manages to kill ALL the drones at pitt epxansion. Well all the drones that didnt morph into creep colonies. In fact pitt errects 8 spore coloies effectively neutralizing any possiblity of an air attack.

There is a small lull in the action and vegas expands to his natural once again.

Pitt starts saying something about his tickly monkeys

An OL sees bot right expo and it is dispatched with lings. There was no d there.

Tickly monkeys....

hmmmmm

DOH apparntly tickly monkeys referes to the dreaded mighty ultra. Pitt has quite a resource advantage and produces 12 of the tickly monkeys.

The monkeys were 0/0 but soon they recieved an armour upgrade enroute to vega base. They med more 0/0 medarines which did little damage to the tickly monkeys. Using irradiate and wraiths vegas manages to kill 1 of the hulking beasts before his entire base is razed.

Lessons learned -
Containment works wonders - I suggest a quick drop vs a lurker rush. In fact in this case Pitt had nothing at his main. A small squad of M&M coulda killed a LOT if not the entire Pitt base as the lurkers were on the other side of the base.

Pitt teched like a whore. Too fast IMO since he had a greater spire about 5 minutes before he had the resources to utilize it. He was also open to an early drop.

Vegas was set back early. Early lings is a good idea vs terran because it lets you see whats coming and possibly as in this case can cause a lot of damage.

Don't panic. Pitt had 6 guards which is a decent force to deal with. However, vegas had the medarines to kill these unsupported guards if he attacked all at once instead of a couple at a time.

Vegas comsatted and saw the greater spire but took no steps to prepare for the guards. I personally prefrer scivessels but in this case they were so fast wraiths were the only option.

Pitt didnt play a perfect game but he played a very sound game.

Vegas was never able to find a rythm after the early setbacks and really didnt do much more than sit in his base awaiting death.

Pitt owns Vegas (Well he did in this game at least)

I'd love to see a rematch.
