Map: Tropical Seas (256 x 192 Island map)
Me: Terran (random) Pretty much centre of the map (bah)
Tylero: Zerg (random) A bit to the left of the centre of the map.

My command centre plomped itself down in the centre of this huge map. Drat.

Obviously some kind of problem in the landing sequence. Either that or the demon that lives in my PC was playing up again. After sprinkling holy water through the vents I turned my attention to the game.

I went for a defensive build first of all, deciding to try and locate Tylero first before making any big strategic decision. I built a rax with 8th SCV,Depot with 9th, and Refinery with 10th. The depot and rax finished at the same time, so I created another depot and sent the other scv back to mining duties.

I pumped out a few more scv's and got a few marines on the go too, in case any overcows appeared on the horizon - Followed by putting down my academy, comsat and ebay in that order. Being an island map, I was pretty sure that I was gonna be needing plenty of gas ASAP - decidng to take advantage of the terrans mobility I started building a Command Centre at the main, intending to float it to the top right corner of the map, where I knew a dual geyser area awaited. Also put down a factory and starport....

There was still no sign of my opponent, and comsat sweeps of starting areas
that I knew of revealed nothing. At this point, one of tyler's overcows lumbered over the western ridge, and quickly fell to concentrated marine fire. Oddly, at this point an overcow floated directly into my base from the eastern, seafacing side, and rather than back off carried on floating in.

This became overcow steaks to go to a combo of the two missile turrets I had near my mineral lines to help in case of a lurker drop, and a patrolling marine.

Insetad of using the comsat to look far afield I decided to look a bit closer to home, and suddenly BINGO was his name. He was pretty much on the other side of the ledge from me. I was quite glad to see that there were no immediate signs of mass lurkers there, as sci vessels were still a while away, and I hadn't spent too much cash on missile turrets. Instead he seemed to be aiming more for an airforce, so I quickly geared into production for a terran mauling of zerg air....

Nice little zergy base was also a prime target for nukes as all the overlords were clustered in the centre of the base - and not patrolling the ledges, so with a hop and a skip and a jump a tech to nukes was in order.

By this time I had expanded to the top right position to take advantage of the dual vespene gyesers and also dropped an scv off at a middle top mineral only node, returning the dropship, as my sci facility with covert ops had just come online, and casper was waiting to be put to good use.

A nuke was loaded up into a waiting expansion silo and whee, accompanied by two valks for defence (I'd constructed two armories previously in order to get both my goliaths and valks upgraded) - and casper not even cloaked, began his Dr Strangelove impression. (pic 1)

After the incredible flying fart had dropped three mutas screamed in from the west accompanied by an overcow. Two valks cripped the mutas and wiped out the overcow while the dropship dropped off one of caspers chums, who promptly dropped the stealthy flying cluster from the other expansion silo.

While reloading my nukes at this point an attack came from tylers expansion, consisting of guardians and scourge - once more, the valkaries and range upgraded goliaths showed their total dominance over zerg air. There must of been 20 or more scourge accompanying the 10 guards and not one made contact.

I did lose many goliaths in this attack due to my own poor placement... to avoid complete massacre tylers guards turned tail and ran to a heavily spored expansion to the northwest of my base. (pic3)

Casper had been resting up behind a tree and again dropped another funbundle onto the south of tylers base, however casper was unable to escape from this blast - losing his life just before the nuke impacted due to a attack from two mutalsiks.

At this time my economy was absolutely booming. I had taken a dropship to the far away southeast corner of the map with a few scv's from my now mined out main, and had created a new expansion there - maintaining my count of active expansions at three.

I knew that tyler was hurting big at this point, having lost almost all his main to repeated nukes - and decided to do what I could to finish him - before this happened however, tyler made one more last gasp attack, guardians with scourge backup accompanied by lurker / hydra filled overmoos....

However, more than anything else, this attack just proved the total dominance that mass valks with goliath backup have over zerg air. (pic 4)

The lurkers and hydras casused some minor damage on my main but generally caused little trouble, due to the missle turrets and Tanks I had stationed earlier.

As this last gasp attempt failed, I moved in with goliath filled dropships onto the remnants of tylers main, tyler surrendered. Bye way of a bye bye, I nuked his last sunken colony in his main....

Lessons learned:

1) Valkaries really are unstoppable against the zerg air forces. Scourge, inparticular, seem to suffer.

2) Range upgraded goliaths are a good counter to the Guardian - however, they are still quite weak structurally. You perhaps need 3 goliaths forevery two guardians you want to take out...

3) Ever nuked a sunken colony? Reminds me of the time bubba had gas and stood too close to his stove. (pic 5)
