Prolouge:
This is not a game about temples, lost or dark.
It is not a game about dire things.
It is not a game about Polaris or showdown.
This is a game about Rivalry.

rivalry - an effort to obtain something another person wants; action, position, or relation of a rival or rivals; competition.
And folks, now that you’re all built up, I will tell you that these players had absolutely NO rivalry =P. I_Hate_Medics and iliketolose were as much strangers to themselves as they were to their opponents: Nevigrofn and Raging~Kozak. While Medic and iliketolose had straightforward names about what they did and did not like, Nevi and Kozak’s names sent me scrambling for a dictionary. (Puts on best “Real World” spoof) This is the true story of four players, chosen to spend an insignificantly small portion of their lives on a game. What these four players lacked at the start, they would have at the end: rivalry.
Chapter 1: Saturday Night Fever (lurker style)
The fog of war lifts, revealing the players and their races: Medic is orange zerg at 7:00 (lower left), iliketolose is purple zerg at 5:00 (lower right), Kozak is teal zerg at 11:00 (upper left), and Nevi is blue terran at 1:00 (upper right). Hmmm… 3 zerg and 1 terran. Will the combination of zerg be too much for the terran/zerg duo? Will the terran war machine be the deciding factor? Will I ever get a date to Winter Formal? Answers: find out, find out, and hell yes =P. Kozak starts off with a hatch at his ramp followed by a pool and 2 sunkens. His partner, Nevi, goes for a standard 2 rax followed by a refinery. Medic goes for a hatch at his mineral only natural, then a pool and 3 sunkens guarding his ramp. iliketolose morphs a pool at his main and then a hatch at the 6:00 expansion. iliketolose immediately has extractors at both sites and appears to be going for gas heavy units. Before any real action commences, Nevi has gone for a quick expansion at his mineral only natural and guards it with 2 bunkers while Kozak has expanded to the 12:00 node. Medic, who has been building up lings, strikes first with an attack at Kozak’s newly secured 12:00 expansion. The lings do considerable damage to the hatchery and kill some drones, but Kozak’s own lings as well as M&M from Nevi are able to quell the threat. Now is probably a good time to mention that teamwork was crucial in this game. Both teams helped each other out and made this 2v2 a true team game. While Medic attacks, iliketolose places a hatch at his natural (3 exp. now) and starts to get the dreaded lurkers. Kozak and Nevi have other ideas, however, and counter attack to iliketolose’s base. The combination of lings and M&M razes the newly morphed hatchery at iliketolose’s natural, but 4 new lurkers make sausage out of the team Navi/Kozak’s troops before they can deal any more damage. iliketolose attempts to bring the lurkers up into Nevi’s base, but well placed marines and bunkers cause iliketolose to lurker dance like its disco all over again. Frustrated by Nevi’s excellent hit-and-run tactics, iliketolose withdraws the lurkers to his base for defense.

Chapter 2: …oh yea? Well I counter your counter of my counter!
iliketolose again expands to his natural and sets up a spire. Medic, meanwhile has a large force of hydras, complimented by queens and lings. I am guessing that the queens are equipped with boodling for Nevi’s tanks, but surprisingly Medic uses them for something quite different… Kozak is busy massing hydras while everyone else techs, so all is quiet for a short time. The silence is torn by the twinkle of comsat and the roar of arclite. Nevi systematically is using comsat (from his 2 CCs) and tanks to remove iliketolose’s lurkers from his natural. iliketolose’s natural is taken down a second time by the tank/M&M team and Nevi moves toward the 6:00 expansion. This is a tense moment, for Nevi has the opportunity to take out two of iliketolose’s expansions with one attack. Kozak brings some troops down to help, but it is not a large force as he is busy getting his expansions up and running. Just as iliketolose’s 6:00 expansion is ready to fall, a stream of orange zerg come to save the day. Medic had been preparing an attack on Kozak’s main, but had to move his troops back down the map to help guard the 6:00 base. His queens unleash their secret weapon: ensnare. Medic will use this spell plentifully throughout the game, with excellent results. Six newly hatched mutas also join the fray and save the expansion. Medic and iliketolose decide that a counter-attack is in order. iliketolose expands to his natural (again) and Medic sends his remaining troops to Kozak’s base. Kozak is able to hold off the attack, but then iliketolose’s six mutas start to rain terror on Kozak’s 12:00 expansion. As hydras hatch, the mutas move to Kozak’s main base and start to terrorize more drones. Poor drones, always getting picked on. Kozak is able to finally drive off the attack, but now both Kozak and iliketolose have sustained heavy losses.
Chapter 3: Retribution
Almost simultaneously, Medic and Nevi expand to 9:00 and 3:00 respectively. Now Nevi’s a good guy, and doesn’t really like the fact that his partner Kozak was raped by one-eyed one-horned flying purple people eaters. Nevi is looking for some sweet retribution. He brings a massive army of M&Ms/tanks to iliketolose’s base and destroys the natural (yes, again). Kozak sends some lings and this time team Kozak/Nevi decides to go after iliketolose’s main. Medic, meanwhile has amassed a large army of queens, hydras, and cracklings outside of Kozak’s base. Since Kozak sent units to help Nevi’s attack, Medic’s attack would almost surely obliterate Kozak’s main base. If Medic attacks, however, his partner is sure to die as well… Medic, of course, is a team player and treks his army over to his partner’s base. Ensnare is the spell of choice, and Nevi’s army (which is in iliketolose’s base by now) is slowly warn down and defeated. iliketolose has suffered greatly in the battle, but Medic has kept him alive.

Chapter 4: blood, blood, blood…
At this point, I still have no idea who will win… Medic and Nevi seem very strong while iliketolose and Kozak have played well, but been the scapegoats for the attacks, most of which have been team attacks (i.e. both opponents attack) At this point, a flurry of small attacks ensue. Medic sends a group of cracklings to Kozak’s 12:00 expansion. At the same time, Kozak is gathering troops in the middle for an attack on Medic. Nevi is bringing troops down the right side of the map for an attack on iliketolose’s 6:00 exp. Nevi sweeps through the 6:00 base, leaving iliketolose with only his main. Medic’s ling attack destroys a good portion of Kozak's 12:00 exp. but fails to destroy the hatchery. As Medic moves more troops to Kozak’s base (yet another attack that would have crushed Kozak), Kozak attacks Medic from the middle and Nevi attacks from the bottom. Medic is forced to recall his attacking force for a second time. What ensues is a bloody battle in which ensnare, well placed sunkens, and mass numbers tip the scales in Medic’s favor and he is able to withstand the attack.
Medic thus far has had to move his depleted force all over the map to defend. Small attacks from different angles keep Medic guessing and on the defensive. In an effort to break this defensive stance, Medic goes for mass cracklings. At this point, iliketolose is struggling to get back in gear, but doing a rather good job. Two lurkers are sent to Medic to help out with defense and several more are placed inside his own base. Still, the game seems locked, neither side having a big advantage and both sides attacking.
Chapter 5: What?!?!? You want MORE blood??
This game was incredible to watch because of the size of the battles, the teamwork, and the strategy. As if one battle frenzy wasn’t enough, a second confusing battle scene erupts. Medic and Kozak simultaneously attack each other and Nevi attacks iliketolose. Nevi sets up a massive offence inside iliketolose’s base, complete with bunkers sci-vessels M&M and tanks. For the third time, Medic is on the verge of defeating Kozak, but is forced to withdraw in favor of defending his partner. iliketolose throws every lurker, ling, scourge, and muta he has at the terran offensive, but Nevi slowly works his way into the main base. Medic finally completes his cross map journey and starts pounding Nevi with ensnare and hydras. Nevi’s frontal group is ensnared and depleted, but continues to rip apart the purple base. Nevi’s rear group fights bravely against the tide of hydras, buying time for the frontal group to destroy iliketolose’s base. The massive terran offensive holds its ground, and when the smoke clears, Nevi is without troops, but Medic and iliketolose have suffered greatly.
Kozak and iliketolose still are the scapegoats, and neither on has had a chance to build too much. Medic has almost turned the game around twice, but always has to pull back at the last second. The only person still going strong is Nevi. Nevi attacks iliketolose yet AGAIN with a fresh army. Kozak sends what ling and hydra support he can. This is just enough to finally push iliketolose over the edge. Medic realizes that all hope is lost for his partner and begins and assault on Kozak’s 12:00 expansion. iliketolose is finally forced to concede, and a tattered and torn terran army finishes him off.
Chapter 6: Terran Power
Keep in mind that Nevi has 3 mineral nodes at this time, more than his partner and equal to his opponent…and he’s not zerg. He is able to build very quickly and attacks Medic from the bottom of the map as Medic moves to Kozak’s expansion. This time Medic has absolutely no choice. He MUST pull out AGAIN to defend. New defilers plague and swarm, queens ensnare, and the organic army holds out.

The constant flow of terran, however, is too much. Many marines give their lives as they chip away at Medic’s empire. Medic fights like crazy but alas it is not enough. It wasn’t until this point in the game that I had a good idea whom would win. It was THAT close throughout. As “nuclear launch detected” appears on the screen, I realize that it is game over for the valiant fighter I_Hate_Medics.

Lessons Learned:
1. Ensnare owns. It owns you, your house, and your dog.
2. For some reason I have this problem with people sucking nuts in games that I watch. Last game I reported, Julian.Delphiki said he had his right gonad sucked. And this game…well…read for yourself:

3. Teamwork is essential.
4. These graphics take forever to make =P
5. Sometimes there is a fine line between when to help your partner and when to just attack.
6. Terran is still the best race.
Author’s Note:
Sorry, no oddities this game =P. It was one of the best games I have had a chance to observe, so I hope I was able to give you, the reader, a good sense of it. Thanks to all the players for letting me watch, and aceofspades for being my fellow observer =). This report took me forever to complete, so I hope you all enjoy it. I put a lot of time and hark work into it, so please comment! It’s the comments that make it all worthwhile =) Also, if you have the time, read my other report.
