An unimaginable ache ravishes their stomach, a slow burning from the pits of their stomach that seems to consume them.
Yet, there is still hope.
Out of the wilderness, a group of Indians emerge, long ignored by the pilgrims for being an "inferior" race. With suprising compassion and generosity, the Indians share what they have with the pilgrims, despite it being a very difficult winter. The two groups feast together, and celebrate their newfound friendship.
But things do not go well for the Indians. The races are most definitely imbalanced. As the pilgrims have now grown stronger, they use their superior tech to take the best land for themselves. The indians are astonished that their allies have backstabbed them.
Counterstrikes begin. The indians fight back desperately, trying to push back the uncoming hordes of pilgrims. But their macro is too great, and their sheer numbers beat back the noble Indians.
Soon, the Indians are seemingly defeated. Their main bases have been raped and pillaged, the white man had broken every treaty made with them.
Pushed back and forced to live in only the most undesirable of land, many of the native americans gave up. Their once proud tradition gave way to rampant alcoholism and high suicide rates, their culture was destroyed.
Lessons learned:
-the sins of the past have been commmited by people much like those in power right now.
-persecution of the Indians exist even today at the hands of the FBI and its COINTELPRO program.
-minority groups are still being victimized by society, just out of the limited view of the middle class.
-whatever limited actions may be taken to help the Indians now will never be able to make up for a genoicidal program that has lasted for decades.
While your enjoying your Thanksgiving holiday, please keep all of this in mind.
