The game turned out to be a tight game right up until the end, where the Terran/Protoss imbalances really shone through. Lost Temple was Nano's map of choice, and I went random like always, and Nano went random as well. I drew Protoss, and Nano-the-Feared drew Terran. I spawned at 12:00 (top middle), the screwed starting point of Lost Temple, while Nano spawned 3:00. I did my normal pylon on 8, and started my first Gateway before scouting with my ninth probe, and scouting Nano's position first. I harrassed and killed the first SCV constructing a Barracks, slowing her down a bit. I ran my probe away when she started attacking, and returned to haunt the SCV building the second Barracks, killing it too. Shortly thereafter my valiant probe was vanquished by the first marine. Meanwhile back at my base, my second Gateway as well as production of Zealots had began to commence. I sent my first Zealot in, thinking Nano was slowed down more than it turned out, as a squadron of 5 or 6 marines began opening fire on my first Zealot. I parked my 4 Zealots at the top of her ramp, disabling any kind of combat advantage Nano might have gained by placing her Marines at her ramp choke. Back at my base, I warped in an Assimilator and Cybernetics Core in quick succession, planning production of Dragoons, as well as additional tech jumping. As soon as my Cybernetics Core finished, I began upgrading Dragoon range, and started producing Dragoons as well as warping in my third Gateway. I mustered up a force of 7 Dragoons and 5 Zealots, with the attack upgrade and charged into Nano's base. My attack failed somewhat miserably, even as I danced the Dragoons around a bit. I pulled my last Dragoon back, sending it back to join it's 3 Dragoon comrades at my ramp. Seeing Nano's rather large force of infantry, I threw up a Citadel of Adun, planning High and Dark Templar production to counter the threat. I expanded to my natural, and threw up 2 Photon Cannons to lightly defend the expansion base. I amassed a force of 12 Leg-enhanced Zealots, 3 Dark Templar, 4 Dragoons, and 3 High Templar, happily preparing for an assault on Nano, who had since expanded to her natural, when suddenly I heard the all-too-familiar "Enemy-attacking" message. Looking around quickly, I found the source, with a panic. Nano had done the often-used Terran cliff drop, and had already erected a bunker and sieged a tank. I decided to let my Probes continue to gather minerals at my natural, seeing as I had nothing to vanquish the threat. I took my attacking force and proceeded to Nanogirl's natural expansion, and began wreaking havoc. I quickly took out the turret at her natural to make detecting my Dark Templar harder, and Psi-stormed the infantry force attacking my forces, quickly turning the dangerous threats into nothing but pools of blood on the ground. She lifted off her Command Center and flew away, and proceeded into her main base with my considerably smaller yet potentially dangerous force. Then I saw the Science Vessel flying towards me, but it was too late. An EMP Shockwave hit me hard, draining 2 of my Templar of any energy. I merged them both into Archons. After cursing under my breath, I bit my lip and brought my third Templar up, who had energy, and prepared for another big skirmish, and warded Nano's Science Vessel away with my remaining 2 Dragoons. I was planning to wait and let my forces shields recharge, when Nano conceded. I was happy that I won against a notable player, even if it wasn't her best race. Here's some various thoughts:
The Terran Cliff Drop is not fun if you expand to your natural, especially with no air.
Protoss vs Terran is just imbalanced in at least 3 aspects. Dragoons, High Templar, and Dark Templar. Everything Terran can throw at Protoss, the Protoss chucks it back with a vengeance.
I need to have better recon, I did not see the cliff drop coming at all. Big mistake on my behalf
Psi-storm is just too buff to be 75 energy. Before it was ok, because a lot of the other Protoss units weren't so great. With buffed up Dragoons, Dark Templar, Corsairs, and the buffed up Carriers, it is just too cheap
I'd like to play Nano's Protoss, as that's her usual race selection, and probably a lot better than her Terran, and her Terran wasn't bad at all. GG Nano.
