This is the story of a man, who in utter desperation,
bargained his free time for space on a Battle Report. I, the writer, had been looking
for another game to BR since the failure of my first report here, and
[GoA]~ToasTeR~ seemed the perfect person for it (read as: the first person I could find). We made a bargain: he would nuke rush
unsuspecting players, and I would report it. This Battle Report sums over several games
in which ToasTeR nuke rushed (or attempted to nuke rush) unsuspecting players drawn from
from the NoHunters channel. Let the games begin!
The first target we selected was a player named iSplash. The game rapidly started, with
our hero [GoA]~ToasTeR choosing the valiant Terrans, and iSplash electing to go random.
The map that was selected was the Lost (or not so lost) Temple, with iSplash being located
at the 6:00 start, with Green Zerg, and ToasTeR at 9:00 with Red Terran. Also observing this game were Itchycrabs and ToasTeR's clanmate, [GoA]~Shivan.
iSplash began with a rather standard Zerg build order, making an early Hatchery down at his
expansion, followed by a Spawning Pool. He got an Extractor immediately afterwards.
ToasTeR was doing his Nuke-rush teching build, going with gas immediately after his first
supply depot, then his barracks, using depots and his Barracks to wall off his choke point.
ToasTeR sent out an unlucky SCV, Deon the Peon, to scout for the enemy base. He went counter-clockwise,
and arrived at the 6:00 location last, only to be greeted by several enemy Zerglings. He pulled
the moves, and after scouting out the enemy Zerg started heading towards home, with a rapacious
Zergling in hot pursuit. He made it back to base, and was saved by the marines ToasTeR had
guarding his chokepoint.
Back at home, iSplash had not been idle. He placed another hatchery down at his natural expansion,
and started producing more Drones. He very rapidly began the upgrade to Lair, throwing up
Hydralisk Den as well. Lurkers, anybody? His economy continued to boom, although he had little defense other than his 3 Sunken Colonies.
At about this time, iSplash had to pause the game for a somewhat odd reason. His dog was
"humping his leg" and it took him several minutes for him to get the horny beast to stop.
ToasTeR was also teching, and had made a Factory, Starport, and Science Facility with Covert Ops.
An Engineering Bay was also constructed, preparing for the expected Lurkers. However, iSplash
had decided to do something different. Instead of stopping at Lair to begin Lurker production,
he just kept on teching. A Spire quickly went up, and a Queen's Nest was begun to advance to
Hive. His natural expansion was flourishing, and iSplash was beginning to form a large force
of Mutalisks. However, he had made one critical mistake. ToasTeR's nuclear silo had just
finished, and a nuke was in production.
ToasTeR had made a Ghost, and researched Cloaking. A dropship quickly ferried the Ghost over
to the side of iSplash's main. Bad things were about to happen...
NUCLEAR LAUNCH DETECTED!
Unfortunately for iSplash, he was unable to find the Ghost in time, and his buildings
and a large percent of his Drones paid the price. Despite this disaster, iSplash looked at the
big picture, reacting with calm and great clarity of mind:
Madder than ever, iSplash began rebuilding his horde, intending to smush the entire Terran
race like the bugs that they are...until the second nuke hit.
This one landed at iSplash's natural. Despite his precautions, he was again not able to find
the Ghost in time to stop the nuke or move his Drones. He lost about 10 workers, 3 overlords,
and a great deal of his peace of mind.
ToasTeR loaded up another Ghost into a Dropship, intending to finish the job on iSplash's main
that the first nuke had begun. However, this one was not nearly so lucky. It was intercepted
by a pack of Mutalisks and an Overlord, before it could deliver it's message of joy and love
to the Zerg base.
Despite the nukes, iSplash had still managed to gather a very large army of Mutalisks,
Zerglings and Guardians. This gigantic army began on it's way towards ToasTeR's base. Would
his defense of several Tanks and Bunkers be able to stop it? The answer: NO!
This gigantic Zerg horde ravaged ToasTeR's base, halted only slightly by his insufficient
defense. Our nuker was forced to resign, and seek another opponent.
Our next victim was Liquified. After much begging from me, the game was created on something other than the overplayed Lost Temple. River Styx
ended up being our map-of-the-day. Well known to veteran players, the River Styx has 2 bases
with 2 bridges connecting them with one player to North and one to the South, with a couple
central landmasses going off them. There are expansions on each player's side, as well as on
the middle landmasses.
In the pregame chat, I was joined as well by @Unholy, who assisted in observing and in
making gay comments. ToasTeR was at the top location with Brown Terrans, while Liquified
was at the bottom with Purple Protoss.
Liquified did a standard Protoss build order, making a Pylon and then two Gateways. ToasTeR
on the other hand was going with his "super secret tech build for nuke rushing" order. He
made a Supply Depot with his 7th SCV, then a Refinery with his 8th. He then contructed a
barracks. At this point he sent out an SCV to scout for his enemy, while Liquified did the
same with a probe.
When ToasTeR found the enemy base, he immediately started a Refinery on the enemy Gas
Vent. This offensive Refinery was quite successful, and Liquified was forced to pull several
probes off mining to deal with this annoyance. Meanwhile, back at home ToasTeR had made a
Bunker next to his Command Center, and was just starting a Factory.
Once the Refinery annoyance had been dealt with, Liquified warped in a Cybernetics Core.
He then sent a total of 4 Zealots, split into two pairs. These gave ToasTeR some trouble,
but were dispatched by the Bunker and a newly made Vulture.
Back at home, Liquified continued to tech while at the same time making a small army of
dragoons.
ToasTeR's Science Facility had just finished when disaster struck. Liquified sent 3 zealots
and 4 dragoons up to attack ToasTeR's base.
These tore through ToasTeR's SCVs and Bunker, and he was forced to surrender.
Our next opponent was [HK]Grin'in. The game was quickly started, with the chosen map being
everybody's favorite, the overplayed Lost Temple. [HK]Grin'in randomed and ended up with Purple
Zerg at 9:00, while [GoA]~ToasTeR~ chose his customary Terrans and ended up at the 6:00 start, with the noble color of Brown.
Also observing were Itchycrabs and [GoA]~Shivan.
ToasTeR did his teching build, while apparently Grin'in was going for early lurkers, off one hatchery.
He got very early gas, and immediately began upgrading to Lair. He then morphed in a Hydralisk Den.
ToasTeR set up a defense on his ramp, hoping to keep out the invading enemy hordes. He was
found early by Grin'in's scouting Overlord, and an SCV was immediately dispatched for scouting duty.
Seeing the early Lair morphing, began construction of Missile Turrets at key points in his base,
without delaying his tech towards nukes. Would his light defense of a bunker and turrets be
able to stop Grin'in's lurkers?
Grin'in had teched up to Lurkers, and researched Overlord transport (but not speed) out of
his one Lair. Avoiding ToasTeR's main choke defense, he dropped 4 lurkers and several Hydralisks
on the edge of ToasTeR's plateau. The Hydras engaged the light defense around the Command Center,
giving the Lurkers enough time to burrow. It was not a good day to be a Terran...
ToasTeR brought back his small army of Marines and tanks, but it simply was not enough to stop
the ravening horde of Hydralisks and Lurkers. Again, our hero was forced to concede.
After the severe drubbing he had received in the last game, [GoA]~ToasTeR asked for a rematch.
At this point, I was getting a bit pessimistic about his chances of EVER winning a game,
and it would look a bit silly for me to write a BR in which the hero does not manage to win
a single one of his games. This was truly a last chance.
We were again playing on the Lost Temple. I again had my fellow observers, and the game
quickly started. [GoA]~ToasTeR~ was located at the 9:00 start as his chosen yellow Terran,
and [HK]Grin'in was in the 12:00 start with green randomed Protoss.
ToasTeR continued along with his standard nuke-rush build order, teching very rapidly.
Grin'in, knowing that his enemy was Terran, also began teching, but towards Dark Templar,
hoping to take advantage of the Terran's weak early game detection.
At just about the time that Grin'in got to where he could begin producing Dark Templars out of his
2 Gateways, ToasTeR finished building his nuke. It was a race: could Grin'in get his DTs down
to ToasTeR's base in time to wreak havoc with his cloaked assassins, or would ToasTeR be able
to nuke him into submission? ToasTeR won.
The first nuke landed directly on Grin'in's Nexus. Fortunately for him, he managed to spot the
dot in time to get his probes away. However, his Nexus and the surrounding structures took
very heavy damage. He began construction of a Robotics Facility, in hopes
of catching the next Ghost with an observer. Probes were sent back to mining... Just
in time to greet the next nuke.
This was one of the more impressive nukes in the game. It destroyed Grin'in's Nexus, Gateways,
Forge, and several of his tech buildings.
This nuke landed directly on top of Grin'in's remaining probes, which he had moved away from his nexus
to avoid the first nuke. This was the final blow, and Grin'in conceded. Always one to try to ease the
suffering of players in the game, I added my little contribution:
So the next game you play with [GoA]~ToasTeR~, keep this in mind: the nuke-rusher is out there. The next victim could be you.
Well, thats it for this BR. This was not intended to be a serious discussion of strategy
or tactics, it is purely for yours (and my) amusement. I hope you got some enjoyment out of it, it was great fun for me to watch these games, and I hope I managed to convey the general sense of them.
PS. It may not be a good strategy but it is possibly one of the funniest things to watch. As MrBobDole said: "And as usual, all you flamers are invited to ram this report firmly up your ass." ThanatoZ out.
