Now I know that many were disappointed with the way the last episode ended. Trust me when I say there is a method to my madness. I want you to know it is Duran. That isn't the plot twist. I also will be introducing a whole new race into the mix and a huge plot twist is on hand. Enjoy episode deux.

The Starcraft Chronicles: The Hybrid Wars Episode II

The attacks on all outposts in the sector had become more and more frequent. terran facilities and camps were being wiped away one by one. The attacks seemed to be drawing closer to Korhal which immediately cause a panic among the Dominion generals. Mengsk had also become gravely concerned yet remained composed as he read the latest reports. The raids were becoming more common and the targets were increasing in both size and defense. Yet these unknown forces were plowing through these heavily defended outposts like a wildfire in a patch of weeds. Three special operations teams had been sent to investigate these attacks and not one had returned alive. Mengsk was getting desperate and he needed to find a way to retaliate against this new enemy.

"Gentlemen, we must find the source of these attacks. We still have no new information on this hostile forces and we are running out of time. Yesterday they destroyed the military compound at Braxis. That is just seven light-years from Korhal. If we do not find a way to fight back, the capital will be nothing more than a sitting duck."

"We must take precautions emperor to stop these forces before they reach the inner rim of the sector. If we send our entire fleet we may be able to have the appropriate firepower to repel any attack."

"You fool! Sending the entire fleet would mean that the Dominion would be defenseless. I can not allow this capital to be compromised again. Yet, if our course of action does not change, we will be annihilated. We need an ally that has the capabilities to fight these things. We need to get the Protoss."

"How will we do that sir? The Protoss are set to rebuilding and they have no reason to aid us."

"I know that, but I do believe that we know a certain individual that can pursued them to see our side. Get me Jim Raynor."

"But sir, Raynor has not been seen for two years. Most people believe he is dead. What would we do if the latter was true."

"No, you don't know the man I knew. He's not dead. He's out there, and I won't you to find him. If he is the key to getting the Protoss war machine involved, then he is what we need. Is that understood?"

"Yes emperor, we shall find Raynor. But what if he refuses to help?"

"Oh he won't, there are too many lives at risk if he doesn't. It's in his character, he will come."

Raynor would be hard to find indeed, but it would become a necessity. The general sent spies to the far corners of the sector. Hopefully they would find him alive. Kerrigan too had her generals busy as Grendal was set to conquer the nearby planet Crim. Grendal had an army at his disposal and he saw fit to use it. Once the main hive clusters were up and running, Grendal set to spreading over the desert sands. The creep flowed and soon the dust was a thick carpet of ooze. Sunken and spore colonies were morphed and it seemed that this conquest would continue undisturbed. Grendal saw that the occupation was a success and immediately contacted his queen to inform her of the good news.

"My queen, I have landed on Crim and have began mining. The hive clusters are all functioning properly and the colony defenses have been laid. I am preparing to move on to the second landing site with your permission."

"You have done well cerebrate. I knew that you would be successful. You may continue with the colonization as soon as you are ready. But be careful of the enemy raids. If anything suspicious is sighted I want to know, is that understood?"

"Yes my queen, but I do not believe that any hostile forces would dare attack this cluster."

Grendal would speak too soon as a psi storm erupted over a group of mining drones. The drones split in two and Grendal was quick to rally his armies.

"Find the intruders, if Protoss are here then I want them killed. All overlords scout the immediate area. I want any intruder killed."

"What is happening Grendal? Are you under attack?"

"Yes my queen, the Protoss have attacked us. I don't understand why the colonies did not attack them on site."

"Protoss? I do not see any Protoss. Are you positive?"

"Yes my queen. It was a psi storm that attacked the drones. It must be the Protoss. All units search and destroy."

"If Protoss are there then I must lead my forces. I am coming to reinforce your troops."

Kerrigan and a small army boarded overlords and descended to the planets surface. Little did she know, but a scouting observer had discovered the Zerg outpost and was sending a transmission to Aiur. Artanis looked on as the Queen of Blades landed on the planets surface. The observer followed and spied the battlefield as Kerrigan and her army prepared for battle.

"Where are the Protoss forces cerebrate?"

"I am confused my queen. It would appear that the Protoss are nowhere to be found. Every overlord is scouting and we have found nothing."

"Protoss? There were never any Protoss sent to Crim."

Artanis was more than confused, but confusion gave way to fear as he witnessed a massacre. Zerg were being torn limb from limb and not a single soldier could be seen. At first Artanis believed it to be the Dark Templar but then a psi storm erupted from nowhere. Not a single High Templar could be seen and this frightened Artanis. Whoever they were, they were not Protoss. Kerrigan too had seen this and for the first time in a long time, she was afraid.

"What the Hell was that? Where did that psi storm come from?"

"I'm not sure my queen, whatever they are they are advancing."

Zerg were being slaughtered and soon the order to retreat came. They took safety behind the wall of sunken colonies, only to find that the colonies would not attack. It was as if the colonies didn't see them. The Zerg troops were helpless and in desperation, the hydralisks began to fire blind. Soon every Zerg was fighting blind as they clawed and slashed at the air, hoping to find a target. This strategy proved futile as they were cut down one by one. Kerrigan released a psi storm into the fray and a nearby defiler sprayed a plague bath on Zerg and enemy alike. The ooze formed a shell around the attackers and a faint form could be seen. The frame of the creatures was distinctly Protoss in its wiry form. The spines, claws and teeth that protruded from it had the qualities of a Zerg warrior. It stood upright and large spines extended from the forearms. With this they slashed and hacked away at the helpless Zerg. Kerrigan found herself surrounded and ordered a retreat. The overlords tried to rescue their queen but psi storms sent Kerrigan's only hope crashing to the ground. Kerrigan tried to burrow but felt a sharp pain jab into her neck. She removed a tranquilizer dart and felt her legs buckle. She was surrounded by enemy soldiers and watched as Grendal was hacked to pieces. She began to fade as a lone ghost appeared decloaked before her. He wore green and she knew exactly who it was.

"Duran?"

"Yes my queen. How can I be of service?"

"You bastard!"

Kerrigan tried to stab Duran and two of the cloaked creature rushed forward. One kicked her in the gut and the other sliced off one of her spines. Kerrigan fell to the ground and passed out, unsure if it was the tranquilizer or just the pain.

The observer recorded this and sent word back to Artanis. The young Protoss called and emergency meeting of the council to show the events he had just seen. The council was gathered and Artanis showed them the footage from the observer. The room was left speechless and Artanis tried to gather his thoughts.

"I have no doubt that these creatures are the Hybrids that Zeratul was searching for. We must put an end to these abominations as soon as possible. I shall rally our fleets immediately.

"I disagree with your reasoning young Artanis. We should wait and see if these creatures can rid us of the Zerg."

"But Tosha, if we allow Duran's army to become too powerful we may not be able to defeat him."

"And if we go now we will be able to overcome him. I believe it is wise for us to study these beings before we rush into battle. Allow the Zerg to be destroyed and then attack."

"What you fail to realize is that Duran has the capabilities to gain control over the Zerg. We will be fighting both Zerg and these new creatures. We must attack now before the broods are under Duran's control."

"You are too headstrong, young Artanis. Let the council vote on the matter, then we shall decide our next course of action."

Reluctantly, Artanis allowed for a vote and as he expected the majority of the council sided with Tosha. He knew that Duran would attack them next and they needed help. Artanis decided to go against the council and to contact the Dark Templar and to rejoin the Protoss armies. He wished that Zeratul was here to offer his advice. He would even like to see the human Raynor, who often gave sound impute on such matters.

Raynor had been missing for two years. He disappeared shortly after Zeratul was believed to be killed. Some said he had gone to seek vengeance against Duran and never returned. Others speculated that he had gone to once again assassinate Kerrigan. and had failed. In truth Raynor had died in a matter of speaking. He had lost himself in a rundown spaceport and had taken to drinking, a lot. He wasn't the same man and now he spent his days fixing vulture bikes and his nights drinking malt liqueur. It was on one of these nights that Raynor had had a little too much and he was approached by two men dressed in black.

"Are you Jim Raynor?"

"Me? No, sorry pal. Didn't you hear? He went missing two years ago. I've been trying to find him at the bottom of these bottles and dammit I still haven't found him."

The two performed a quick DNA scan and it was Jim Raynor. He was in bad shape and they had a feeling that he was not fit to travel. But Mengsk said to get him so they had to.

"Jim Raynor you are hereby ordered to return with us to Korhal to meet with the emperor."

"Is that so? Well why don't you tell that bearded son of a bitch I told him to kiss my ass!"

Raynor took a badly aimed swing and one beer bottle to the head later and Raynor was on a one way trip to Korhal. At the same time, Kerrigan too had wakened from her chemically induced coma. She woke disoriented and with a terrible headache. She tried to move but found herself chained and sealed in a cell. Around her neck was a strange brace and from the looks of it she was in one piece. She tried to break the neck clamp and a sharp pain shot up her spine. She let out an uncharacteristic scream and fell to the floor paralyzed but conscious. She wasn't sure if it was the ringing in her head or the real thing but she was sure that someone was laughing at her. From the dark there came a very familiar voice.

"I should warn you that the clamp does not like to be mistreated. I hope that hurt, Kerrigan. But it would hardly be justice for what you have done."

"And you wish to punish me Templar?"

"No, I am merely an observer to all this. You are a prisoner like me, and you have no idea of what is at hand for you."
