Eve of Destruction: Episode 1

It is a time of chaos and turmoil in the Korpula Sector. Mere months have passed since the devastation of Auir, the eradication of the UED Fleet, and the Zerg victory.
The three races have no choice but to continue the grueling fight for their very survival. Every minute becomes a test between life and death...between victory and defeat.
After rebuilding their once glorious civilization on the far-flung planet Shakuras, the enigmatic Protoss feel the time is right to strike the weakened Terran Dominion above the skies of Korhal.....

Leutenant Migz Sherman rubbed his forehead bearingly as he silently stared at the radar screen. He was unfortunate enough to be assigned the hated duty of radar operator aboard the Battle Cruiser Meganandra, a task universally despised by nearly all officers. Overall, the job was dull and unrewarding; loads of time for only marginal results. The young Leutenant was under strict orders to report ANY alien activity to the bridge immediately, as Korhal's defense was vital until the Dominion Fleet could be reorganized and rebuilt.
Suddenly, the radar detected a massive number of unidentified craft enclosing on the Throneworld at an alarming rate. The shocked Leutenant Sherman frantically activated his comlink to inform the bridge of the developing situation.

"Admiral Rorik, I'm picking up a large number of alien craft approaching rapidly from sector 4!" he hastily yelled into the comlink.

"We know," replied Admiral Rorik, a tall, grey-haired, aristocratic figure of 60 years old. "Order all available ships to move into combat position. The Admiral then to the bridge crew, "Code Red, men! We are dealing with a possible alien incursion. Report to your battle stations immediately! This is NOT a drill!" The bridge erupted in commotion, as men raced to man the ship's defenses. Warning klaxxons screamed, red lights lit up the ships interior. The emergency call went out to the nearby ships very fast, and pilots scrambled aboard the sleek and agile Wraith fighters, and quickly launched from orbitting docking bays. Battle Cruisers and captured Valkerye Frigates hastily accelerated their engines and moved into battle position.

Praetor Fhas'Andra peered over the horizon from the bridge of the Carrier Startide, watching the Terran Fleet mobilize for battle. He saw little reason to attack the Terran instead of the Zerg so soon, and didn't see why HE, and not a more experienced Protoss leader, was put in charge of the task force assembled to defeat the Terran Dominion, but he didn't dare defy the New Conclave commands. They were ruthless and demading, but were battle hardened and experienced in the "art" of war. He knew that these were the leaders needed to lead the Protoss in such dark times. The proud and aging Praetor communicated telepathically with the young Protoss in charge of the Fleet's communications. " Deploy all interceptors aboard all Carriers immediately. Have the warriors engage the enemy at their own willing." The officer obeyed the noble Praetor's commands immediately, and soon the Protoss Carriers spat out a cloud of fast, manuverable, interceptors towards the Dominion Fleet. Scout pilots rocketed towards the enmy they were instructed to decimate. The stage was set...

The area exploded into ferocious chaos. Wraith fighters tangled with interceptors and Scouts in a fierce dogfights to the death. Battle Cruisers and Valkerye Frigates quickly accelerated towards the Protoss Carrier Fleet looming ominously in the distance. The bold Wraith pilots of the famed Gamma Squadron were of the first to enter the bloody melee.

"Watch yourself, Colonel, bandit at your six!" cried Cadet Jon Mercadoc, a brash, young pilot.

"I can't shake him... help me out Mercadoc!" Colonel Fern yelled into his comlink, desperately trying to lose his pursuer. Cadet Mercadoc evaded a maze of plasma and lasers blasts to reach his wingmate and friend. He accelerated his fragile ships and locked onto the Protoss Scout. He quickly let loose a hail of laser cannon fire and Gemini missiles toward the hapless Protoss craft. The Scout exploded in a blinding flash of light. Cadet Mercadoc flinched at the explosion.

"Thanks, Mercadoc. I owe you one," Colonel Fern said, reieved. After wiping the sweat off his forehead, he instructed his elite squadron pilots.

"Okay, boys, we're going after those Carriers! Accelerate to full throttle and fol- ARGHH!!!" Colonel Fern's ships was ripped to shreds by concentrated plasma fire from the overwhelming number of Protoss interceptors and Scouts.

"Colonel Fren...NO!!" Cadet Mercadoc cried as he saw his squadron mate destroyed by the robotic killing machines. Mere seconds later, Mercadoc's ship also succumbed to the barrage of plasma fire. Within a matter of seconds, the Dominion's finest Wraith squadron was reduced to space debris.

Admiral Rorik watched the ensuing melee from the bridge of the Meganandra. He bore silent witness to decimation of the once proud Terran Fleet. He turned to the port side of the bridge viewport, only to see a crippled Wraith crash into a damaged Valkerye Frigate, destroying both ships in a titanic explosion. Despairingly, he turned to the starboard end of the large viewport. A Battle Cruiser exploded from heavy Scout fire. The horizon was filled with explosions and lasers blasts. Calls for help, cries of injured pilots, and cheers for minor victories poured over the bridges comlink system. He knew that the battle was nearly lost; desperate action MUST be taken. Slowly, he turned to the short, brown-haired Captain Nita standing next to him.

"Captain," the Admiral said softly to the ship's captain," set a course for those Carriers, we're personally going to take care of business".

"But sir," Captain Nita protested," you saw those ships being annihalated! We wont-"

"Captain, never defy me!" the Admiral quickly cut off Captain Nita's remark. Solemnly, Captain Nita saw that the Admiral's orders be obeyed.
Soon, the Meganandra, several Valkeryes, and a few Battle Cruisers accelerated their engines and rocketed towards the Protoss Carriers in a do-or-die attempt to destroy them. They shot passed a maze of deadly missiles and plasma blasts to reach the Carriers. The lumbering behemoths took aim at their Protoss adversaries with a volley of laser and HALO rocket fire. It looked as if the battle would turn, but the experienced Praetor Fhas'Andra recalled scores of interceptors and Scouts to defend the Carriers, so key to the entire operation. Suddenly, the situation was reversed, and the bulk of the Dominion Fleet found itself cut off and in danger of being overwhlmed. Concentrated Scout missiles and interceptor plasma bolts tore into the Meganandra's armore plating, exposing vital systems and ripping the monstrous ship's guts open. The Terran were now at the mercy of the Protoss's superior firepower. Soberly, Captain Nita turned to Admiral Rorik, who was silently staring out of the bridge's viewport.

"Code Black?" the captain asked the Admiral barely above a wisper. Admiral Rorik solemnly nodded and continued staring at the slaughter taking place around the ship, tears swelling in his eyes.

"Major, inform Emperor Mengsk that the battle is lost. Advise him to evacuate his staff immediately." He then took the ship's controls and set a collision course with the lead Protoss Carrier...
