Future battle reports will have pics, and I will try to dress them up a bit with photoshop. This battlereport is kinda long, but it is also very entertaining, if you read it, I don't think you will regret it. So I present to you, my 2nd and certainly best battlereport ever!!!
It was 2nd period at Generic (you think I will mention the real name) Highschool, my CAD (computer-aided-drafting) class. My friends and I were busily constructing our houses and working on the electrical details, waiting for the last person to finish installing the Starcraft spawn. My buddies in that class dont have BW so we only play the original version, with that said, lets get to the game.
We had decided teams before the game began. Me (I was going under the name Asleep@thewheel) and Burt would go up against Rambo and Heath. The map was New Gettysberg SpaceStation.
I am an average player by this time, and I immediately pick Terran and land a Command Center at the 9 o'clock position.
Burt is a strong Protoss player at times, and has been losing a lot with Zerg so he chooses the Gaytoss, warping a nexus at the 12 o'clock start.
Heath is very good with protoss (usually) but he is a slow builder, he teleports a nexus between the 10 and 11 o'clock.
Rambo is basically a newbie, but he likes to mass units, so he opts for a Hatchery, and mutates one at the 6 o'clock start.
I thought of doing a keen ASCII drawing of the minimap, but I decided against it. (use your imagination, please)
I begin with a barracks at 5 (worried about them lings) and supply depots at 7 and 9. When I have a few marines and a steady economy I begin my wall-in. It was a loose one though, enough room to fit marines and vultures through, but not enough for goons or hydras. I knew it wouldnt hold against Heath's zealots so I threw up an Academy and produced a few fire bats, and positioned them behind my bunkers. I began a factory and slapped on a machine shop, began researching vulture speed, and pumped a couple bikers. At this time I glanced over at my partner's base. I saw a couple zealots, a few cannons near the choke, a single gateway, a cyber core, and a warping stargate. He was going for early scouts, probably to assault the peon line, this might prove useful I thought.
My revelry was short-lived, as I realized I had completely neglected scouting. Feeling very sheepish, I sent out 2 of my speedy bikers and 5 marines to look for my foes and possibly find an expansion. My vultures quickly discovered Heath's base, and to my delight, I found only 3 zealots near the choke, and a few cannons protecting his miners. I waited for the rines to catch up, then i began assaulting his eager zealots. I moved my marines in front of my 2 vultures, wich allowed my hover-bikes to take potshots at the zealous zealots. I was surprised how quickly they all died, although I lost 4 marines and one of the vultures was a bit damaged. Then two more zealots popped out of his gateways, slaughtered my last soldier, and scared away my vultures. It was at this time that partner pulled his head from its comfortable sitting position in his anal cavity, and decided to assist.
2 of Burt's zealots poured in and engaged Heath's. I knew they would win, but I sent in my 2 vultures just for added humiliation. Unexpectedly, Heath's Aiurian fighters did an amazing trick and dissapeared with a fantastic blue flame. Realizing that Heath's magicians had left his base undefended, we set to work on the two gateways. I wanted to make this a sure thing, so I sent 2 more vultures and 8 marines from my home base to join the fray. The gateways were quickly razed, then the pylons, then the cannons, and I set a few mines around to prevent probes from running out, or any further building attempts. There was little left but an unpowered forge and two burning pylons (we left a few structures as a sign of goodwill and mercy), then my teacher, Mr. Densley decided to inspect our "work". I frantically paused and alt-tabbed out, to show him my spacious and impressive house, then he looked over Burt's work and decided he was satisfied. I clicked on the window on the taskbar, and when it popped up, I was horrified.
Those Newb little pukes had unpaused!! It was Heath, bitter Heath, he was looking for revenge. I scrolled over my once vast empire, now a charred and twisted image of its former self. About 9 mutalisks had sailed into my base, and proceeded to pound my buildings to dust. All that remained now was 2 bunkers and my engineering bay, and my sneaky factory. Maintaining some composure, I floated my factory in the northeast direction, then I unloaded my bunkers in a desperate last stand, and stimmed up my armored convicts. They managed to kill 2 of the sickly birds before they were engulfed in a cloud of muta-blasts. I conceded my main (and only) base, and snuck a few SCV's out, just before 3 more mutas arrived. One positive aspect of their deadly "unpause and destroy" tactic, was that it left me with over 1300 minerals in the bank, and around 2500 gas. Perfect.
I sent an SCV towards, the topright expansion, where my factory was hovering to, and the other 3 began construction on a command center, a refinery, and a barracks, exactly where Heath's base had once been (I had spider mines watching that area the entire game). As soon as the command center was finished, I pumped out an armada of scvs, and constructed 3 more barracks, and a few supply depots and a factory. I pumped roughly 18 marines, then decided it was finally time to expand. I landed my factory at 2 o'clock, and threw up a command center, then sent 2 more scvs there to build turrets and a factory. It was now that Rambo had wiped out all my stray supply depots and bunkers, and moved onto my partner's base, the flock being about 15 or so. He had some scouts, a couple zealots, and 6 cannons to defend. The scouts were targeted first, and they managed to kill 4 mutas while damaging another, then 6 more mutas sprung up, and the cannons were quickly disposed of. Then his hapless peon line was annhilated, and I decided I had better save my good for nuthin mumble mumble.....
Luckily while that went on, I had not been idle. I had pumped about 6 vultures, and 10 goliaths from my factory, and my marine military totaled around 35 (those barrack lights never went out). And seeing their total lack of recon, I decided to expand twice more, to the 1 o'clock, and middle right. I also had remembered to construct a few armories and engineering bays, and upgraded vehicle/infantry weapons and armor. I sent my 10 upgraded gollies and a control group of marines to meet the bloodthirsty birds. When the goliaths arrived, they quickly popped about 4 mutalisks, losing two of their number. Then the marine support showed up, stimmed up, and cleaned up. With this victory under my belt I decided to do some much-needed scouting.
I sent two super-speedy vultures on seperate paths, one towards 6 o'clock (I had realized the general direction of the muta-assaults) and one on a diagonal course towards 4 o'clock. What luck! I discovered the Zerg slime at 6, and decided to have a closer look, but that was a poor choice, suiciding my bike towards a sunken and a few hydras. My other beerswillin' biker found the pitiful protoss expansion at 4, and situated himself behind the minerals, dusting off 6 or so probes before some zealots ended his fun. I was cackling maniacally inside, as I sent my now 9 vultures and 2 control groups of m&f towards the remains of the protoss "threat". The vultures popped the worker line in seconds, then came the zealots, about 8. My vultures had a noticable advantage in position, and took as many cheapshots as they could before the zealots rounded the minerals, and shredded their shiny harleys. I didnt want to let him get any cannons up, so I stimmed up my 2 control groups, and they arrived immediately as the last bike poofed. Firebats torched the zealots, then the probes, then the Nexus (firebats rock large buildings when stimmed). My marines searched for all pylons first, then took out every neccesary building they could find. It was now that a funny little message appeared on the screen, "Heath has paused the game". Well well well, expecting some mercy are we? Nice try----- eye for an eye.
Burt unpaused the game before I had a chance to weigh this little moral dilemma. I stimmed all my units once more, and quickly had destroyed all but a pylon and an assimilator. When Heath realized what had happened, he cursed aloud (Densley doesn't mind much I guess) and immediately disconnected. The game was over, that much was clear, so I decided to check up on my partner.
Burt had climbed nicely back up the tech tree, but I didnt see much offensive units, unless he planned to convince Rambo that his observers were miniature carriers with permanent cloak. It was all up to me, and I was glad for it. Burt had BS'd me before, countless times, and he always won, because of my unpreparedness and forgetting about that annoying alliance box. Now he was a humble little child, and he watched as the Terran juggernaut gained control of half the map and crushed any attempts of rebellion. Back at home, my four barracks finally came to a stop, as the weird cyberlady informed me that I needed more supply depots. HA! With 60 or so marines there bumping heads and massaging their triggers, and a nice force of 20 or so m&f at the 4 o'clock start, I didn't need a thing. I had also produced 6 tanks and researched siege mode, but there was no need for them. So i marched my HUGE military towards the unsuspecting Zerg.
My renegade soldiers politely knocked on the door, but were blocked off by two Ultralisk bouncers. My marines were not letting any mutated mammoths stand in their way, so they all drugged themselves (some didn't fire, but they seemed to like the effect anyhow) and laid waste to the prehistoric hybrids. It was incredible, and beautiful, and HILARIOUS. The overmind had planned on these things holding off any ground attacks, yet I was able to destroy them and suffer only one loss! Now the marines, still hyped up, sliced through the 3 defending sunken colonies, then EVERY one of my units filed in and destroyed the base from the inside out. Before I was able to finish off his bleeding hive, he quit. My marines were angry at the sudden stop, so they started shooting eachother in celebration before the "Victory" button popped up, and they ceased that nonsense.
Lessons Learned:
1-Never show mercy.
2-Burt sucks with every race.
3-Terran can win with no air and no siege tanks.
4-Recon is just as important as macro/micro.
5-Upgrades own.
6-Some people actually read my BattleReports and I thank them.
