Introduction

This is a story, of a man who nuke rushes ever time he plays. This is about a man who always ends up losing. This man would always nuke rush whenever he was playing as terran. He would nuke peon lines, clustered supply depots, important tech structures, fresh expansions. He would nuke them all. Then the time came when he should pass on this unique strategy. Cold`Fusion, the worthy nuke rusher then passed his strategy to the most unlikely person - me.

So this story is really about me. I haven't used that nuke rush strategy for about a year now but the build order is still fresh in my head, as if Cold gave the strategy to me only yesterday. This nuke rush is not only unique but when executed properly may work 70% of the time.

But there are some downfalls to a nuke rush. For instance, you are very vulnerable to attacks early game. Everything from marine rush to a reaver drop to a mutalisk rush would be able to wipe you out. What you build may affect what happens during the rush. For instance, you do not want to go building a marine in between every tech structure you build as it may slow the rush down. Of course there are other ones but I won't bother mentioning them all.

Where Did It All Start?

It all started when I logged onto battle.net at 10 in the evening. I had logged on pretty late that night and to my surprise, no one was in NoHunters. Why isn't there anyone online when I am? So I decided that waiting a bit wouldn't hurt that much. Well, I did not wait a bit. I waited an hour before anyone I knew got online. After I waited that one hour Dawn[W] entered battle.net.

He readily agreed to some games. I ended up raping him a few times and he ended up raping me a few times. We even got some 2v2 temple pubbies going. Well, people ended up lagging out (dropping) or disconnecting. We managed to get a few proper games but the rest were just bull shit. After a while Dawn[W] left battle.net.

It was now 12 midnight. The only sensible thing to do now was to join up in a public game. I knew my connection was good that night so I decided to create a game of my own - on Byways.

For those of you who do not know Byways it is basically a two-player map with starting positions at the bottom right and top left corners. There are only two more available expansion sites which makes it a real race against time. Anyways, it is a real open map which has cliffs in the middle, which you place tanks atop and fire down on hopeless enemies. =] That about sums it up.

So I waited for an opponent to enter the game and two seconds later a man by the name of I_Need_To_Learn joined. I greeted him and he immediately responded with -

"No Rush?"

I sighed."No rush," I agreed.

Will I Live Through Early Game - Or Will He Break The No Rush Rules?

For the sake of Cold`Fusion I will not post the build in detail. I started off with a refinery on 7 and then continued to build consecutive tech structures after that. I had no time to scout because I needed every scv on minerals if it wasn't building anything or if it wasn't on gas. Btw, I made sure to only have 3 scvs on gas.

I finally reached the top of the tech tree. I had my science facility completed and was researching cloak, as it was more important than ocular implants as of now. I began a ghost. I told the workers at the silo to begin constructing the nuke...

First Go

As soon as the ghost was out I ordered him into an awaiting dropship. The dropship immediately headed in the direction of the top-right base. There was a cliff over-looking the base and it would be safe to nuke from there. The dropship dropped the ghost off and quickly U-Turned back to the main base. The pilot was obviously scared of being shot down and wanted to be out of enemy territory as soon as possible.

The ghost walked over to the edge of the cliff and saw some scvs mining away. It was then that I finally he was terran. I ignored that fact and told the ghost, who was so skilled in homing a nuke to its target, to home the nuke to its target. The ghost almost immediately aimed for the important tech structures. A red dot appeared on the screen and I saw the nuke launch from the silo. I_Need_To_Learn was obviously in frantic search of the red dot. Unfortunately, he found the dot right before the nuke was landing and quickly tried to run his scvs away.

Ladies And Gents, The Eagle Has Landed!

I lost the helpless ghost in the last nuke so I began training another one. I told the workers at the silo to get another nuke ready as soon as possible. I began another command center in my main to start get another silo where I could, then, get another nuke.

As my ghost stood atop the hill it watched the scvs frantically trying to repair their important tech structures. The ghost stood atop the hill firing down on the scvs in an attempt to kill them before they managed to repair the structures. Yah right.

As you can see I was very vulnerable to any form of attacks. I had a few marines and a tank on defence. Well as they always say, the best offense can be a best defence... Did I get that right? Anyways, the workers at the silo informed me that they were finished with the building of the nuke. I used the same ghost atop the cliff to pinpoint the direction for the nuke. He was an expert at this even though he just came out of the barracks 3 minutes ago. INTL (I_Need_To_Learn) was frantically in search of the red dot once again. Unfortunately for him, the nuke fell in high glory.

Find it newb.

The Final Frontier

Again, his scvs frantically went off to repair the buildings. Fortunately for me though, this time he only had 5 scvs repairing the structues as the rest of them had died to the nuke. =] I began two nukes this time one starting a bit before the other. Suddenly, the words YOUR BASE IS UNDER ATTACK filled the screen and I checked my base and saw what looked like a million wraiths tearing down my marines and the few turrets that I once had. Was the game over?

As you can see my plans had foiled and now I was going to go down with them. But no way was I going to give up so easily. I first snuck a few scvs to the expansion west of my old main and began to construct a command center there. I floated my important tech away all except my command center. His wraiths began bombing my structures. Fortunately I was able to get one building away - my e-bay. But this event caused him to fire down on my floating buildings instead of my silos. A bit of diversionary tactics there. ;]

I realized that nuking was vital now, so I decided to nuke the most newbish place alive. His gas/sci facility/starport all in on go. Just ask ground-LOBP-, Cold`Fusion, or Final`Flare and they'll all tell you my nuking skills are horrible. So I nuked that place and luckily he still could not find the ghost and his structures went down in the heat.

My main base had been completely destroyed but I had a new main base to work with. I had completely secured the plateau with turrets as wraiths were my main enemy right now. Then I began climbing the tech tree slowly once again with all the excess cash and gas I had. He tried attacking once but failed. He only succeeded in losing a few wraiths and getting others bombed.

I must have been stupid to think I could climb the tech tree to get nukes instead of getting tanks. He attacked me with 12 gollies and I had absolutely no ground defence except for my scvs. I tried to lift my buildings. But unfortunately for me, his wraiths were positioned outside my base and they proceeded to bomb my floating stuff. My command center didn't even make it out the base due to the goliaths. I uttered a "gg" and left.

Lessons And Post Game Shit

1) Never nuke rush unless you know you can pull it off.
2) Always have some sort of ground defence.
3) Never keep teching for the same thing once you've failed once trying it.

So this didn't really work out well. Neither the BR or the game. I guess I'll practice it more and stuff. If Cold let's me I'll post the full build for the rush if anyone wants it. Thank you for reading this installment of the Newbie Tactics (gayass name, I know) and please comment on the report!
