Greetings, and welcome to the first ever
DrSpork report. I have been a fan of
this site
for ages, only now have I finally got around to writing a report of my
own. I have little knowledge of html or photoshop so you will have to bear with
me. Please feel free to rip me apart in the comments section, (as if you needed
permission). Now I'll stop screwing around and get to the report.
Intro
I was having a great Saturday hanging around
channel porpoisejunction.
bakedpotato (one of the regulars) decided
to go see if he could find a
good pubbie 1vs1, for lack of anything better to do I tagged along. He
created the game 1vs1 LT BLARG! (don't
ask about the blarg.. I don't under
stand it myself, heh).
The map was Lost Temple, (what else) an
observer variation of somesort.
After several false starts, we found a worthy opponent, a man with the handle
hockeysuck.
I immediately noticed hockeysuck's
record 561-334-68. I don't put much stock
in records, but 500 wins is 500 wins. bakedpotato's
pitiful 17-32-0 record
placed him as the underdog for this matchup.
There was little pre-game chatter, mostly
just bakedpotato
commenting on
how stoned he was. A drug abusing SC player.. how strange *grin*.
The
Game
Both players had chosen random on the start
screen bakedpotato drawing
brown toss at the 9 o'clock postition and hockeysuck
drawing white terran
at the 12 o'clock postition. The two cloned their peons perfectly and away they
went. The build going something like this:

bakedpotato
took his 7th probe and went scouting, clockwise
around the
map. He stumbled into hockeysuck's main
right away. Being the cheesey
player he is, he decided to try for
a cannon rush, building a pylon at the bottom
of hockeysuck's
main just out of view of the busily mining scv's.
Unfortunately for bakedpotato,
hockeysuck sent an scv out to scout just
after the cannon began warping in. The SCV attacked the probe, trapping it.
Knowing the jig was up bakedpotato cancelled
the cannon and abandoned
the pylon. No cannon rush today.
The SCV dealt with the probe and took off
scouting, (clockwise as well),
leaving the pylon to be taken care of by a few freshly trained marines.

Defeated bakedpotato
headed back to his base. It was evident that he
needed a change in tactics. He had a large mineral surplus, and only a forge
and pylon in his base. He slapped down 2 gateways and another pylon, hoping
to get some quick zealots before hockeysuck can
go on the offensive.
During this time hockeysuck
had not been idle, he was steadily pumping
marines out of his two barracks, and had a third 'rax' in the works. Gas, another
supply depot and an acedemy were not
far behind. A mixed infantry was his
obvious goal.
Seconds later hockeysuck's
scouting SCV finally made it to bakedpotato's
main. The SCV stuck around watching the mining probes untill bakedpotato's
first two zealots arrived. He attempted to flee but the zealots psi blades cut
him down before he could get too far.
Before the SCV's carcass could hit the ground
bakedpotato had the zealots
up and running toward the 12 o'clock position. The two zealots stopped just
short of hockeysuck's ramp, performed a
180 and positioned themselves near the
3:00 mineral only. The two zealots waited there and were soon joined
by 4 more
bakedpotato
also added another gateway, pylon and started
a cy-core at his main.
hockeysuck
had researched stim-pack and was accumulating marines and
firebats, with the occasional medic for good measure. A force of 5 marines,
3
firebats and a medic were loafing around when one of bakedpotato's
6 zealots
came wandering in, apparently on some ill-fated recon mission. He was dealt
with
appropriately.
Seeing this pitiful attack as a sign of
weakness hockeysuck
stimpacks his
troops, gives them a kick in the ass and sends them out to attack, finally taking
the offensive as he should have done long ago. As the troops (5 marines, 4
bats and 4 marines), head out they pass within inches of bakedpotato's
hidden zealots, as you can see below.

The Terran forces gather up outside bakedpotato's
main, and he is able to
catch a glimpse of one wandering marine. Deciding it is now or never he sends
the 5 hidden zealots to attack. They find little resistance, two medics and
a firebat
are quickly dealt with, and they go on to harass the innocent mining SCV's.
Now hockeysuck
does something quite unconventional. Instead of pulling his
forces back to defend his main he decides to lift off his buildings and send
his
remaining SCV's to help with the attack, thinking that bakedpotato
can't have
much more than his attacking 5 zealots.
With no more resistance (even in the form
of SCV's) bakedpotato's rampaging
Lots lay waste to the terran main.

bakedpotato
already gloating over his victory has forgotten
about the platoon
of angry terrans right at his doorstep. Apparently not paying attention
bakedpotato loses his entire defending force
(2 zealots and 2 goons), to the
sudden terran aggression. With stim packs fired up and medics close behind
hockeysuck only loses 3 marines in the attack.

With the defenders laying in a pool of blue
goo back at the ramp hockeysuck's
forces sped to the protoss nexus, attempting to destroy bakedpotato's
probes.
The probes flee the area, throwing up a defensive cannon as they retreat. But
the surviving marines snuff the cannon before it can warp in.
hockeysuck's
men begin to attack the nexus and surrounding buildings, and
are awaiting SCV backup. It seems that bakedpotato
has also focused too much on
the attack, he never recalls his zealots from 12:00, which would have helped
immensely.
Things are looking good for hockeysuck.
With no goons and only
5 zealots there is no way that bakedpotato can
destroy his hovering buildings.
But suddenly the tables turn....
bakedpotato is smarter than he seems. His
weed soaked mind had the forethought
to order up 2 zealots and a goon just as the terrans arrived. They now popped
out of
the gateways to meet the remaining infantry and SCV's.
With little to no micro, and a lot of dumb
luck the protoss forces manage to destroy
the attackers. It was a close fight, in amoungst the protoss buildings.
The Hero
of the battle was bakedpotato's third dragoon,
whom somehow destroyed most of
the SCV's on his own.

The battle seems to be over now, the terran
threat eliminated. Still alive on the
protoss side are that damn dragoon one zealot and about 4 probes.
hockeysuck tries
one last desperate attack. He has managed to land one of
his barracks. With the last of his minerals he trains 3 marines and a firebat.
These 4 are joined by a straggling medic. The final 5 charge up the 9:00 ramp
with high hopes and lofty dreams. They run headlong into the still feisty (though
heavily damaged) dragoon, the remaining zealot, and a newly warped defensive
cannon. These last few are completely wiped out and peace returns to the land.

Without so much as a 'GG' hockeysuck
is gone.

Final
Thoughts
1. Battlereports are a hell of a lot harder
than i ever thought.
2. Don't put all your eggs in one basket
3. Hiding men is great. I can't help thinking that this would have been an
entirely different game had bakedpotato positioned
his men even slightly
closer.
4. While being stoned and playing SC may be fun, you will not get the best
results.
Well thanks for giving this a read I look forward to your tips and critiques.
