Screwed Up TvP on The Lost Temple

Hey all! This is my first report ever! So don't expect much. I doubt I even do this battle justice.

Pre-Game

Okay, so I was skulking in a random, semi-popular channel (bsb) after being completely demolished by a well-placed dt drop on lost temple. I watched insults and comments traded back and forth, and then I eye the even present Join button. Having limited myself to only pubbie games at this stage, I click on it yet again and look for an available game.

I scroll past the endless "3v3 0clutter/0rules/xpertz only!!!" Games and select a game titled "1:1 lt" hosted by a gentleman named DSuperGogita. As soon as my screenname (a new sn MathProdigy[rs]) pops up under DSuperGogita's, we exchange pleasantries and inquire about each other's skill. Neither of us admit to being good so I gain confidence.

Naturally, being a Terran only player I select the tab containing the word Terran from the outset. I was quite sure Mr. Gogita saw this and was formulating a strategy as he started the countdown. Then, 3 seconds before the game started, my opponent quickly switches the word "random" with "protoss". This was gonna be interesting.

The Game

(note for ease of reporting, I refer to myself in the third person)

The game starts and MathProdigy[rs] finds himself commanding the blue terran army at the 12 o'clock position on the now well-known Lost Temple.DSuperGogita ends up as the Executor of a small Protoss expedition on the southernmost (6 o'clock) plateau on the battlefield, sporting the color teal

Each player splits his workers, and then starts building a supply building with their 7th worker. Prodigy builds his next to his ramp signifying an immediate wall-in. Both the players then send out a peon to scout out their opponent's position.

Prodigy quickly follows up his lone depot with a rax and a second depot to complete the wall. At this point, Gogita's scouting probe finds the two busy working and alerts its master of the wall-in. It is ordered to do a bit of a harassment, but fails to do any real damage and is taken out by a third scv. After the probe pops, Prodigy adds a refinery to his base layout.

Gogita was also setting his own gas economy up, and already has a gateway. At this point, Prodigy's scout strolls up the 6 o'clock ramp. However, it doesn't show what Prodigy wanted to see, and the only signs of tech were Gogita's assimilator and lone gateway. It manages to spot a warping building at the edge of its sight before a zealot punishes it for loitering too long in the base.

In Prodigy's base, his gas economy is in full gear and a factory is slowly rising out of the ground a few pixel lengths from the command center. A few seconds later, a second factory joins it. At this point, he decides to beef up his defense and constructs a bunker to house the three marine defenders standing idly behind the wall.

Gogita is back in his base, and, with his gas economy fast up, he warps in a cybernetics core (even though it was kind of late for a goon rush). Hmm...looks like Gogita isn't going to be charging up Prodigy's ramp with dragoons. Turns out the other building was a second gateway, and the pair of gateways were powering out zealots. Shortly after the Cybernetics core shimmers into existence, Gogita summons a robotics facility and citadel of Adun from Aiur.

Back in Prodigy's base, his first factory's machine shop attachment goes online along with his second factory, and both facilities (along with the first factory) are ordered to produce a vulture, tank, and research siege mode. In almost no time at all, two vultures and a tank cluster in a huddle around their rally point, and the siege tank has the siege mode ability. At this point, Prodigy sends out a second scv to scope out the defenses, with the attack force of one tank and two vultures deployed hot on its heels. Prodigy's scout finds a few more zealots in the base, but doesn't see the dragoons he was expecting. Instead, the scv finds the robotics facility and the citadel of adun. Fearing a templar archives is imminent, he withdraws both the scv and attack force. He quickly sets up an engineering bay and a network of missile turrets, thinking now isn't the best time to break the quiet. Prodigy then braces his forces for an assault.

However, Gogita isn't going the direction of dts, and instead, sets up a third gateway and pops out a shuttle from his robotics facility. When his zealot count hit eight, the leg enhancements in the citadel finish and a second shuttle was hovering over the robotics facility. He then loads up all eight zealots into the shuttles and sends them off to the nine mineral only.

But at this point, two blue vultures charge into the mineral line and begin to ravage the mineral line. A lone zealot and two probes fall in a failed defense. Turns out, Prodigy had amassed a force four times the original, and was now quickly making progress across the map. However Gogita's Gogita's shuttles ignore the force and continue on their merry way.

One of the vultures survive and four more pour in to reinforce the lone one ravaging the mineral line and empty it out faster than men switch channels late at night. Two other vultures run rampant in the base, but then comes the hiss of anchors being deployed around the base. Four of Prodigy's siege tanks sieged up just up from the ramp. A lone zealot is produced and vainly tries to defend the base but is taken out by a nearby vulture. The base was now Prodigy's.

However, Gogita was not one to be daunted by such minuscule attempts and quickly orders the two shuttles to deploy their zealot squads on the edge of Prodigy's plateau, well away from his missile turrets. The zealots unload undisturbed, and their leg enhancements quickly take out each and every defender that came their way (or rather, tried to to run away from them). Gogita's zealots tear up the now useless turrets into pieces and they slaughter the marines in the bunker. They also destroy one of the two factories, effectively weakening Prodigy's production.

It was a test of toughness as both forces eat their way into each other's bases. Prodigy's troops in Gogita's, Gogita's in his. It was now a question of who's troops are the hardiest.

Or was it? Gogita, being the sneaky little imp he is, pulls another trick up his sleeve. In the chaos of the strikes and counterstrikes, he manages to pop out another shuttle from his robotics facility. He then sends it over to hover undisturbed over the nexus, where the lights were flashing. Hmm...suspicious. A few seconds later, a probe pops out. It lingers around for a few seconds, surprisingly undisturbed by the five vultures, then slips quietly into the shuttle. The shuttle drops it off at the 9/6 ravine to make a pylon, then loads it up again and steals away to the NW island expo, where the probe is unloaded off again and left to warp in a nexus and an assimilator (owing to the large resource overhead Gogita had). Back in Prodigy's base, he lifts off his buildings in an effort to buy his troops time in eradicating the teal infestation. As expected, when the last building blew up, Gogita was still there and pretty much in the game. Looks like Gogita's wits paid off.

Surprised, Prodigy floats over to the 3 main where he takes root. He starts mining with his workers and instructs the lone factory to produce defenders. But Gogita was hot on his heels and unloads the zealots on the makeshift base, making short work of the workers and then beginning to work on the cc. Prodigy Commands a full retreat, but Gogita loads up his troops in the shuttle before they can reach him.

Prodigy, seeing that there was no immediate threat, sends his troops to the other end of the map in an effort to catch Gogita rebuilding at the 9 main. When his vultures find nothing but empty grass, Prodigy figures out that Gogita was hiding in one of the island expansions, and being in no position to counter realizes the game is lost. He congratulates his opponent with a gg and surrenders his mighty terran army to his Protoss adversary.

Sheesh. You'd think after suffering a metal invasion amidst managing an elaborate counterstrike is hard enough? Try sneaking a probe out of your base when five vultures are breathing down your neck. This move was so subtle, most players probably wouldn't have noticed it. Being the game winning move, This game's Magic Moment is Gogita's Probe Run!!!
