| | Introduction |
|
Greetings all and welcome my 5th...well, um first report. I am Shuriken, the new LurkerBurger7.
I chose to begin a new name because of my sux0r average and my new Photoshop skills.
I'm sorry that I haven't submitted a report in a long time. My drought was primarily caused by my new possesion
CounterStrike and WCIII! I have to admit, at first I refused to get WCIII because
I thought it would be gay and even gayer for battlereports. I mean, come on, its slightly
easier to get a 9-10 with WCIII than it is with SC and yet I
resisted the temptation. However, I finally gave in and I saw what you guys
what were all talking about. Crap that game is good.
CounterStrike was another extreme game. It reminded me of a
fine-tuned version of Goldeneye for N64. Sneaking
around a building, sniping from a rooftop, and shooting the living crap out
of the Terrorists from behind a crate; maaad fun. Alas, there
was in fact one more game that I rediscovered. It's called Empire Earth and
what hell of a game it is. The best way I can describe it is a
greatly expanded Age of the Empires with WC3 graphics.
This game is simply brilliant. Having 14 time periods to play in (over 500,000 years),
it's one of the most extensive games on the market. I grew to absolutely
love it. After my first gold,
I was confident that I could chug out another, but I decided to stick with Starcraft.
So here it is. My lastest and hopefully greatest BR yet. Enjoy :)
Oh and by the way, there's a flash down here. Right click and press play.
| | Matchup |
A Zerg vs Zerg on Gauntlet, very intresting indeed. I had never met the contenders either.
After viewing the replay several times, I designated a general strategy for each player.
BunkerBomb22
was without a doubt, an offensive player. He rarely gave his opponent time to recover from each individual raid. Did not volentarily
select Zerg, giving me doubts concerning his skill level.
Usl
was a more defensive player. He erected clusters of defense in key areas, such as the choke to his natural. He did in fact chose Zerg,
helping to reassure high expectations.
Zerg, helping to reassure high expectations.
| Early Game (0:00-9:59) | |
Aggression
Ironically enough, both players began morphing a Hatchery then a Spawing Pool.
Seemingly developing identical strategies (Zergling rush), it would come
down to numbers and commanding skill.
BunkerBomb22
made the first move, ordering his Zerglings (about 20) into enemy territory. Although
time was in its infant stages,
Usl
had constructed a cluster of defense near his base entrance along with his own army of those
little critters. In addition, he had some extra time to increase the strength of his army (about 30 zerglings).
By the time
BunkerBomb22
had reached his opponent's base, its was no-contest.
Usl
decimated the assault within a matter of seconds.
BunkerBomb22
would not be thrashed so easily. With his second Hatchery, he could now spawn his little critters
at a doubled pace. Hence, he hastely got to work forming his newest army. Meanwhile,
Usl
had made the best of time and money. Possesing ample resources, he began constructing three
Hatcheries located at the entrace to his natural, in addition to the one he morphed earlier. This
new cluster soon became the focal point of the entire base yet it was still extremely vulnerable,
due to it's position. In response,
Usl
commenced the resurrection of his own Zergling army. When hatched, they became the gaurds
of the cluster.
However,
BunkerBomb22
was now prepared to deploy his army of Zerglings and soon they were hopping off in hopes of
terror and destruction. Fortunately for
Usl
, his cluster had completed morphing just seconds before
BunkerBomb22's
army reached the base. He even had time to morph a Sunken Colony in the cluster's premises. But there
was a rather large problem that
Usl
had to face. His Zergling army was substantially weaker than
BunkerBomb22's
. Alas, he composed a solution. While his enemy's army would be busy with his own, he would
begin spawning Zerglings from the new Hatcheries.
Surely by then, the opposition would be worn
to the point in which the reinforcements would be able to successfully vanquish the attackers.
However, time was running short for
Usl
;
BunkerBomb22's
Zergling army had just slithered up the entrance ramp. With little hesitation, he and his army
plunged into battle and aggressively began cutting the opposition into ribbons. Hastely,
Usl
commenced the spawing of his reinforcements. Fortunately for him, the opposing Zerglings
were held back successfully and the reinforcements stampeded into the fray. The remainder of
BunkerBomb22's
army was not able to defeat the manic minions of
Usl
, prolonging his aquirement of revenge.
Economy First
BunkerBomb22's
anger had cost him dearly. Currently, he only possessed four Hydralisks and one Zergling along
with two Sunken Colonies for defense. To top it off, his resources were horrific. In comparison,
Usl
had nearly quadruple the cash plus he had maintained an army of 16 Zerglings. Sensing the need
for greed,
Usl
decided to expand to his natural, and yet somehow,
BunkerBomb22
was not far behind. A mere 30 seconds later, he also expanded to his natural in hopes of reviving
his economy. But, this objective may seem slightly out of reach because at this very moment,
Usl
was creating , you guessed it, a whole new Zergling army and a new Hatchery cluster at his
entrance ramp. His Zergling army was rather large for the moment (28 Zerglings), but
Usl
didn't necessarily desire much more than he had, simply because this was his counter-attack.
| Middle Game (10:00-24:59) | |
The excitement level boosts in the middle game section. Both players are now unleashing higher caliber
wrath and fury upon their opponent. Teching is not emminent yet however. The combatants are
going for the dire strike in which one swarm could ultimately ground the opponent's base all together.
Here's the details.
Counterstrike
Usl's
counter-attack had set off for
BunkerBomb22
and his rather rickety lair bloodthirsty. Eager for a dose of revenge due to the raids on their kingdom.
BunkerBomb22
began to get his act together. In the time it took for
Usl's
counter to reach his base, he had spawned a considerable group of Zerglings, along with several
Hydralisk and three Sunken Colonies. Underestimating his opponent,
Usl's
Zerglings "congo lined" into the creep where they were met with
BunkerBomb22's
defense. His Hydralisks and Sunken Colonies banged in most of the fatal damage at first,
but soon after, the Zerglings had the oppertunity to advance up the battlefield and assist
their Zergish counterparts. For a change,
Usl's
counter-attack didn't stand a chance. His Zerglings funneled right into the meat grinder.
Even if he did regroup his Zerglings before the encounter,
BunkerBomb22
would have sent them to oblivion anyway.

Bleh. Here's a quick table on the build order (15min mark).

Unexpected Resistance
Perhaps,
BunkerBomb22
should subdue his meager restitution. Because
Usl
had once again made the best of time. As his counter-attack of Zerglings were travelling
towards the battlefield, he began to construct a grand army of Hydralisk. With a total
of 9 spawing centers, he was able to train his spine weilding beasts in a extremely short
amount of time. When his Zerglings had diminished at his opponent's base, his Hydralisk
army was quite operational and quite deadly. Without hesitation,
Usl
charged out of his placid undertone and conjured his wrath, willing to release it at any
moment. His elite army squirmed out into the open. All seemed calm and normal, when
all of a sudden, the first few Hydralisk were peirced by subterranean spines. Lurkers
no doubt. Shortly, several Hydralisks were filleted, deprived of a nearby Overlord.
The Lurkers were not in solitude. Accompanying them was a rather large group of
Hydralisk. Mahem broke loose among the Zerg and the game switched into meat grinder
mode. The opposing Hydralisks were at a stand-off, lining up and launching their acid
green spines in a flurry of hellfire. Time was in
Usl's
favor. The longer his Hydralisks lasted, the greater solidity the entire group had at the
actual battle scene. The duel rages on.
BunkerBomb22's
Hydras are beginning to feel the effects of war. Fending off their enemies, only to be
replaced by reenforcements. His opponent had finally taken the time to summon an
Overlord to the scene-a Lurker had promptly fallen. More and more Hydralisks spilled
their blood, until
Usl's
force would fulfill their attempt to slaughter. Soon enough, the Lurkers were left
ungaurded. Although they became chop sui rather hastely, the Lurx were able to scratch
a few more tallies onto the death count.
The Hydralisk army had taken considerable damage, losing approximately a third of their
strength. They slithered onward towards the enemy base, their minds imploded with anguish.
Besides the raging battle of the Hydralisk, new expansions were currently being constructed.
It turns out
BunkerBomb22's
Hydralisk force had been merely a defense squad for his lower right expo. Fortunately
for him,
Usl
had not inquisitively searched a short distance northward, unveiling his new and undeveloped
expansion. Plans of his own may have distracted him, ordering three Drones to
his
expansion at the upper left. In addition, he was in the midst of achieving central domination.
The first Hatchery was in its infant stages, placed at the southern expansion.
Usl's
Hydralisk army was now poised on the threshold of his opponent's base. The acid weilding
horrors stampeded up the ramp without delay, bent on catastrophic mutalation.
Grand Army Exhibited
The 30 Hydralisk rampaged towards the opposing Hive Cluster. This time, they were
occupied with an Overlord; no worries. However, as the battle commenced, the tables
began to turn. The far-seeing Ovie became under fire by a nearby Spore Colony and
without supervision from
Usl
, the Overlord drifted away. The Hydralisk were left to face their highest threat (under
the circumstances), the Lurkers. With the momentary loss of vision, the subterranean
beasts were left to fillet at will. In addition to that threat, Zerglings and enemy Hydralisk
were advancing in
Usl's
position. The Hydras had a tough time targeting the nimble Zerglings of
BunkerBomb22
. They appeared to be aiming for the enemy Hyras. So while the Zergings were tearing
open stomaches, the Lurkers were also getting in on the action. With this dynamic duo
to face,
Usl's
"grand army" was thwarted in a matter of seconds.

UPDATE
Things are heating up for our competitors. Here's an overview of the current scenario.
All the expansions are occupied. The players are becoming desperate. Any offensive
actions should be carried out now.
BunkerBomb's Enterprise
With his recource stock rapidly didminishing,
BunkerBomb22
set his eyes on the northern central expansion. He sent off a convoy of drones escorted
by 10 Hydralisk, 6 Lurkers, and a couple of Zerglings. He set his Lurkers at the two entrances
to the expansion (3 on one side, 3 on another) and grouped his Hydras and Zlings in
the center around the young Hatchery. After a few minutes of peace,
BunkerBomb22
was able to complete the construction of the Hatchery and sent over some idle drones
from his main. Most of them he used to put up Sunken and Spore Colonies and the rest
commenced harvest.
After his new expansion begins to thrive,
BunkerBomb22
decides to try another offensive move. This time, he targets the northern most expansion
of his adversary. He orders 18 Hydralisks and 21 Zerglings to position themselves north
of the expansion. First he sent in all of his Zerglings accompanied by 8 Hydras. However,
BunkerBomb22
had not had a clear view of the expansion in quite a while and as he stormed the front,
the door slammed shut in his face. Well over a dozen Sunken Colonies were guarding
the expansion. The rest does not need explaining (and uhh yeah, the same thing happened
for the remaining Hydralisk).
The All-Mighty Air
Usl
had shifted to the air while his opponent lead the feeble attack. With his numerous Hatcheries,
he was able to spawn dozens of Mutalisks at an alarming rate. In approximately 3 minutes,
he had spawned over 75 of the flying menaces, poised and ready.
BunkerBomb22
, still unaware of his enemy's shift, conjured about 18 Mutalisk and confronted the
"Sunken Expansion" with vengeance. Rapidly, the Mutalisk terminated the Sunkens but
there was a big surprise waiting for them at their opponent's main. The massive flock of
Mutalisk flew to the scene and pummeled
BunkerBomb22's
Mutalisk group with ease.
Usl's
Mutalisks then headed straight for
BunkerBomb22's
central expansion. They flew in from the west and continued on. It was yet another
easy victory for the Mutalisks, as the only valid defense was a small group of Hydralisks
and three Spore Colonies.
The Mutalisks continued on to
BunkerBomb22's
main base. There was no need for tactics or strategy. The Mutalisks came directly through
the threshold of the base. The defenders: several Scourge, Hydralisks, and a few Spore
Colonies. This was truely a no-contest in the end. Any and all enemy units were executed
as
Usl's
Mutalisks ravaged over the base. As the Hive fell, one group of Mutalisks headed south
to take out an expansion while one group headed north to do the same. There was one
of those last ditch attempts to rebuild in the middle of no where, but the Mutalisks
uncovered the opperation in its infant stages.
Usl
had won.
