*Because no youtube links are available yet, I will put up the report without the embedded video, I will edit and include timestamps as soon as the clips become available, until then, show your support for GSI and watch it there.*

Hello all!  No riveting intro this time around so let’s get right into the match!

I know I have embedded the youtube videos into this writeup, but please take the time to watch the games on GSI (http://gsi.gomtv.com/vod/) to support what they’re doing for the game.  The only reason I’m using the youtube videos is because I can embed them and can get timestamps.  So please, take a little bit of your time to watch some of the content that GOMTV has put up for this event.

As always, be sure to check out sc2gg.com for all your Starcraft news and information.

Match info:
GOMTV Star Invitational – Group A
Match 1: sAviOr (Z) < Blue Storm > Flash (T)

Here we have the first match of this highly anticipated GOMTV Star Invitational, pitting sAviOr against Flash on Blue Storm.  We have Flash spawning into the 8 position, sAviOr into the 2 position.  sAviOr goes for a jump on his economy, opting for an extractor and a second hatchery before he puts up his spawning pool.  Flash goes for an early expansion into his natural after completing his first barracks, completing the wall into his main with a supply depot.  He builds a bunker to support his expansion, but unfortunately sAviOr’s ling rush is out of the bunker’s range and has disrupted the mineral flow from Flash’s expansion.  At the same time, sAviOr has upgraded to his lair and begun morphing his spire.  Flash brings in a firebat with medic support, but is forced to lift off his command center before the lings retreat, setting back his mining even more.  sAviOr takes the opportunity to expand into the 12 position, occasionally testing Flash’s defenses with his pack of lings while waiting for his spire to come up.  He also manages to sneak a zergling through Flash’s wall to harass the SCVs in Flash’s main and lives long enough to scout his tech before being picked off by an SCV.

sAviOr continues to harass Flash’s expansion, taking out two SCVs with a pair of lings while awaiting his muta harass to hatch and enter the fray.  Flash anticipates the muta harass and rushes to put up some turrets around his natural, and completes a trio just in time to fend off the first attack.  sAviOr’s second attack is much more successful, taking out a trio of towers, only losing a couple mutas between the towers and a group of marines trying to wall them in.  He tries to go for Flash’s main base, but a pair of towers and a control group of stimmed marines quickly change his mind.  He keeps at it, however, and continues to take out the towers at Flash’s natural, forcing Flash to put money down the drain as he rushes to tech to his science vessels.  While the harassment is going on, sAviOr has been pushing hard for hive tech.  At the beginning of the harass, sAviOr’s force wasn’t extremely effective and did little to slow Flash’s mining capacity; as time progressed and his muta numbers increased, he managed to nearly shut down Flash’s natural, which could be a huge factor as the match goes on.

sAviOr continues gaining momentum, teching to hive and upgrading to a greater spire, most likely pushing for guardians.  Flash has finished his science facility, and is researching irradiate as fast as possible so he can mitigate the muta harass threat and get his economy back up and running before his main gets mined out.  Flash is losing marines by the dozen to sAviOr’s mutas, and things don’t seem to be looking up for his natural expansion.  Just as sAviOr begins to get his guardians, Flash’s science vessels finally arrive on the scene ready to irradiate.  Unfortunately, sAviOr’s guardians have arrived just as Flash attempts to break out of his base, and he soon becomes pinned inside his main.  In a fantastic move as his main is getting torn apart, Flash irradiates his own science vessels and slaughters the entire contingent of guardians.  Losing his second command center to sAviOr’s still-present muta harass, Flash is unable to secure a cash flow from his natural expansion, reaching a do-or-die moment of the game.  Unwilling to lose momentum, he pushes out with all the MnMs he can muster, backed by science vessels.  Flash forces his way into sAviOr’s position 12 expansion, using his science vessels to stall the mutalisks and destroying it before the sunken colonies can morph.  Flash’s science vessels take out nearly a dozen mutalisks, losses sAviOr might not have the time to make up for as Flash continues his push.

sAviOr tries to counter by going after Flash, who has attempted to expand to his natural again, but is again forced back by Flash’s science vessels.  In the meantime, Flash has pushed down into sAviOr’s position 5 expansion, bringing it to the ground in seconds.  sAviOr has had enough time to build enough sunken colonies at his natural to hold off Flash’s push, so Flash pulls back to deal with the muta harass threat to his own natural, where his science vessels are being used to their full potential.  Flash has spotted sAviOr’s attempt to expand into the 11 position and kills it off with his MnM army just after the hatchery completes.  sAviOr carelessly lets a group of mutalisks fly directly over Flash’s army, losing a handful before they can make it past.  However, sAviOr has severely reduced Flash’s (who is nearly mined out at his main) mining capacity with his guardians, but Flash continues to irradiate like his life depends on it.

sAviOr has again attempted to expand into the 5 position, but Flash’s army takes down the hatchery again, but not quick enough to prevent sAviOr from cancelling it and only losing a drone.  He pushes into both the 11 and 12 positions, hoping to get the hatcheries up before Flash takes them out, but has yet to succeed.  He morphs more guardians outside of Flash’s natural, hoping to permanently cripple his mining, but again he is pushed out by a swarm of science vessels.  sAviOr attempts again to expand, this time moving for the 3 and 5 positions, but he has lost almost all his mutalisks and ground forces, while Flash’s MnM army has only gotten bigger.

After the last guardian falls to irradiate, sAviOr knows it’s over and gracefully ggs.
