Map: The Lost Temple (you were expecting something else?)
Our participants:
SnowSquall: Yellow Terran@12:00 (who needs addons?)
(not known): Cyan Protoss@3:00
It's been a rough day for being terran. I'm taking my lumps getting either lurker rushed or DT rushed, as I learn how to succesfully fend those off. I also lost a game where I sent my (until then) successful tank push straight into about 8 lurkers. Sigh...
Anyhow, I start off with my normal build of 8 depot, 10 rax, 12 rax. A probe slinks into my base, gossips with
my scvs, and departs to the south. Hmmm.. I'll have to
check on that in a second, thinks I.
A hunch told me that a cannon push might be coming.
My first marine confirms that push, and sits back
and waits for the pylon to warp in, and then I have
3 marines, which sit waiting until the first cannon
almost finishes. Just before the cannon is complete,
I run in and wax the probe, and withdraw. The result being that I've forced him to waste 250 minerals on something that will do him no good.
Predicatably, he tries to send another probe over, which my marines take great delight in shattering into a million pieces.
Now that I know I'm up against some major cheese, I can
expect Dark Templars next, right? Of course! But
first I thought I'd try my hand at getting into his base.
My SCV had made the rounds a few minutes earlier, and
noticed two gateways, with a cybercore warping in. I
knock on his door with 8 marines and 2 medics.
Unfortunately he had 3 cannons on his cliff, and I managed to kill 2 of them before losing my poor marines. (the medics ran back to the safety of home base)
While I send this attack off, I expand to my natural, and I have 2 bunkers at my choke, a comsat that has just been completed, and I'm in the process of erecting 2 missile turrets on either side of my bunkers. Just as I complete this, it gets tested. 1 dark templar goes up in a puff of smoke.
Predictably, he comes again. This time, it's with 3.
I kill 2, and the 3rd manages to run past, but I simply stim, comsat, and chase him down. Poof.
I've built a factory, but I skipped right past making tanks and built a starport immediately after that. A dropship emerges, and 6 marines and 2 medics get on board.
"This is your captain speaking on SnowSquall Airways flight #666. Please observe on the left, the undefended Protoss homebase. Please assume the crash position..."
When I dropped, he had given up the DT strategy, and
was pursuing something else. I'll give you 3 guesses, and the first 2 dont count..
Observer rush? arbiter rush?
Carriers? ding ding ding!
My 6 marines quickly obliterate the mining probes, and
proceed to raze the nexus, and also the 2 pylons that were powering the majority of his buildings. Alas, DT's cut my
little squad down though before I could finish the job. (he was smart, he fragged the medics first since I had 1 armor at that point)
Back at home, the relatives of the passengers of that flight heard the news, and demanded revenge! They couldn't sue, so they did the next best thing: 32 of them banded togehter, and marched toward the crash site, seething with anger.
They'll have to wait for another day however. The Protoss
fled in dismay, never to return...
There might be hope for me yet.
Lessons:
--Don't power 7 buildings with 1 pylon. Duh!
(it was great watching 3 stargates shut down)
--Don't leave your base undefended. Duh!
--Don't try to give your opponent 2 heapings of cheese,
and expect not to get beat down. Duh!
--Do a search for "Heartcutter", and read his BR's if you
want to get good at playing terran. I'm 4-7 so far, but
2 of those losses came when my modem hung up. :( He's
right though, the learning curve is steep. I'm still
getting spanked by semi-competent players.
(had pictures, but they turned out to be totally irrelevant since I'm still not thinking of taking pictures when I'm doing important things.. like, say, fighting. :)
