"Last in line was Advisor "CB". His nickname was based on "Cattlebruiser", although none of the men were quite sure where the name had come from. Some infantrymen whispered that it came from a particularly bad night back home involving thirteen shots of whiskey, a herd of cattle, and a twenty-two year-old Animal Husbandry major. Others swore on the fact that a bloody cow's head was hung in his locker, a testament of what would happen to the men if they ever got out of line. Whatever the case, CB was fiercely competent."

Greetings, I am Weremuppet, partner of Wererhynadon, weaver of numerous battle reports at Starcraft.org under my alias of the Cuptoman, and I am here to provide this site with it's first battle report from me. This game was a while ago, so bear with me if I don't get it entirely straight. One night, not too long after we got Brood War, Wererhynadon and I decided to try out a new map, Cauldron. Setting up a 2v2, here's the match:

MAP: (6)Cauldron.scx (256 x 256)
PLAYERS:
TEAM 1: (Team Werecreature)
Weremuppet (Me) Purple Zerg, NE
Wererhynadon (My partner) Yellow Terran, SW
TEAM 2: (Whose names I forgot)
Foe #1 Orange Zerg, SE
Foe #2 White Zerg, W

As the game began I did my standard build for Zerg on land maps, getting a pool on my 8th drone, getting another drone, an overlord, then 6 zerglings, and getting zerglings with every larvae until I had 12, and then getting all the pre-Lair goodies. I sent my zerglings straight south to scout out any enemies that might be that way, seeing as how I had sent my first overlord west. I wasn't watching Wererhynadon, but I'm sure he also used a conventional Terran build, even though Protoss is his primary race.
Fortune smiled upon me. Though it would look really, really, REALLY bad to anybody watching, my 12 Zerglings found Orange in the southeast and decimated the base with not too many casualties. Orange was a memory, even if retelling his side of that battle would make it look like I was a map hacker. That done, Wererhynadon soon found White to the west, and began mounting forces against him. Making a marine/medic/tank attack, he faced heavy Hydralisk resistance from White, who finally decimated his attackers.
At this point, White sought to face me in combat. I had already expanded once to the NW, but I was most likely overteching, given by the fact that I didn't have too many Hydralisks at my base to defend. I did, however, have Lurker tech, and so when I spotted a large mass of Hydralisks heading towards me, I was fast to begin mutating a few. White was in for a shock when he realized he had not detection support with him, and my lurkers halted his first attack. I expanded again to a more north central position, and began to get some hatchery tech, including, among other things, an Ultralisk den.
White wasn't a fool, however, and for his second attack not only did he bring along Overlord support for his Hydras, but Lurker support as well. Needless to say, my main fell, but not without taking down quite a few of White's troops. However, White soon gave up on Hydras in subsequent attacks on Wererhynadon, and began to convert to Mutalisks and Guardians. At the same time I was attempting some sort of air force, but at this point White was way ahead of the game. I soon lost my NW colony to Mutalisks, and I was being hunted across the map. Something had to be done. Wererhynadon was holding off White, though his base was slowly being consumed by the ravenous Mutalisk and Guardian onslaught, though irradiate was helping him greatly. However, it seemed as if the 2v1 might be turning against us.
Amidst all this, however, I realized something. I had full ground unit upgrades. My Ultralisk tech was fully completed. I had a new colony in the east and plenty of snatch. White had level 2/1 Mutalisks. My Ultralisks had 400 hit points and 6 armor. 11-6=5. A Mutalisk squad would do about 60 damage to one Ultralisk in a single volley. That means 7 volleys to kill. And that's ONE Ultralisk. In other words, who needs air support? Using Nydus tech between my remaining bases, I assembled a squadron of might Ultralisks, and launched them against our air-loving foe.
As predicted, the Ultralisks did splendidly. Their bone-scyches ripped through every spore, sunken and creep colony, every hatchery, and everything else that moved on ground. Yes, eventually the first wave fell to saturated Mutalisk attacks and Sunkens and a few dozen desperate Zerglings, but with each follow up wave it became apparent that the Ultralisks were working. Soon White's main fell. Now I was the hunter. He tried to hunt back, but I had AA where it counted. He colonized the NW. Ultralisks came. He colonized near his main. Ultralisks came. He colonized below my new Hive. Ultralisks came. Wererhynadon had used the time to recover, and now his Battlecruisers arrived to hunt down the hated Mutalisks. And White, our valiant foe, realized that he was done for, and at last the Cerebrate severed it's connection to the hive. We had won against a singular foe who had held out for a good long while.

LESSONS LEARNED:

UPGRADE: Did I overtech? Yes. However, it was my extensive ground upgrades that saved my Ultralisks in the end, and allowed my forces to survive for such a long time against the repeated onslaught of White. Armor can be one of your greatest friends, don't forget that. It more than doubled the life expectancy of my Ultralisks.

DETECTION IS YOUR FRIEND: If White had sent overlords on his first attack, maybe it would have succeeded, and deprived me of valuable time. If there's any chance your foe might have some cloaked menace waiting, bring along something to catch it with.

SOMETIMES THE SIMPLEST THING IS THE BEST: Sure, spellcasters are great, and so is making the best out of each unit, and I'm not great fan of one-unit wonders, but sometimes all of those things aren't needed. I did the mass Ultralisk strike for several reasons. One, I had the resources (VERY important). Two, Ultralisks were the only thing that had high enough hit points and armor to basically ignore Mutalisks and Lurkers. Three, the mission objective was to destroy all my foe's buildings, not his Mutalisks, and Ultralisks do that wonderfully.

DON'T FORGET AIR DEFENSE: One of the things that allowed several of my colonies to fall was the fact that I skimped on Air defense, expecting more ground attacks. Given that White was a Zerg and could switch over very easily and without warning, I should have prepared more.

That said, I hope you enjoyed this battle report, though I'm sorry I have no pictures of it to share. Until my next harrowing tale of battle, this is the Weremuppet.
