Heartcutter: 3:00 Blue Terran
Blueday-Sky: 6:00 White Protoss
If anyone's noticed, I've started spouting up a storm about 'finding' a new strategy on Terran vs. Protoss. It's been there all along, but I think I've refined it down to the point where I can write a battle report about it.
It goes something like this:
First, get an alcoholic beverage. Southern comfort, Old English 500, Jack Daniels are all acceptable. You are going to be associating yourself with the crap unit of the game.
The vulture.
I do my now standard Heavy Metal Terran vs. toss opening of 8 depot, rax, gas depot, bunker at the choke. I build 4 marines and fill that bunker. I also have Deon sitting on the ramp. He'll block the view for any probe that wanders up, while allowing my bunker to tear into the offender. Also works great for slowing down the first zealot.
My opponent tries to scout with a probe. The probe sees a bright light as the bunker sentries gun him down. Right now, I don't even know where my opponent is. That's ok. It'll all become clear.
After the depots are down, I begin construction on 2 factories. These factories will be the chosen weapons of doom. With them, I take the fight to the Protoss (and not the other way round). This is a paradigm shift in tactics. I've been winning with the 2 Rax opening for a very long time, and now I see the virtue of the double factory build.
Once I get some excess minerals, I begin my ebay, as well as another depot. Once the first factory completes production, I build my first vulture.
Deon with wheels. Dangerous combination.
Under orders, Deon scouts 12, then 9, then finally upon approaching 6, is attacked by DT.
OH NO!
But deon lives! He drives circles around the shadows and goes up to the enemy base. He spots a lone probe on an expansion mission, but Deon craters the little bastard. But at the same time, I'm building 3 turrets. One goes at my choke, the other 2 cover my base. This is THE vulnerable time, terran players. Set up the defense right, and you'll have nothing to worry about. Do it wrong, and it's over. Understand this.
I mine my choke area and two of the mines accounts for a DT, but his partner makes it through to the rear area.
OH NO!
But Cletus, roused out of his drunken stupor, is called on for a quick act of defense. With 2 shots of his grenade launcher, he is able to neutralize the DT menace, with the help of a turret near the CC.
Speed upgrade has just come online, and I've been pumping nothing but vultures. I estimate that my opponent has about 4 DT( Had. 2 were wiped out by mines and Cletus), and I have 5 vultures.
Payback time.
I race my vultures up his choke, but he smartly left a DT there to prevent me from approaching. That's ok.
Because mines are fun for the whole family.
I begin to leave more and more mines near that choke. Close enough to make him back off.
Big mistake.
A dedicated DT rush has no time for a forge. Why would he need one? DT's are invulnerable. Terrans haven't a prayer. With no comsat, Terrans are even more of Protoss' bitch.
But you forget one thing. We're Terran. We're rednecks, we're inbred, and we're proud of it! We're THE PROTOSS NIGHTMARE!
So when he backed off his DT to avoid the mines, 5 vultures shot into his base. They first blasted a probe that was going for an expansion attempt, then whipped by the goon and the DTs and parked their butts near the peon line. Laid a mine or two, and opened up on the probes.
BWAHAHA!
The first batch only nailed about 4 probes, and a DT. A follow up group of vultures laid mines about the Toss base.
It was a bad day for Protoss.
But you don't win the game with vultures alone! Learn this! After the second wave hit the peon line once more, I switched to heavy tank production. Also, I expanded to my natural, and with all of the mines I knew where the Protoss player was.
I was in control. I dictated the flow. This is a great position to be in. He had to eventually get a robotics facility and an observatory to start clearing out his natural of all the mines.
As he was doing this, the tanks rolled in.
I'll sum up the rest: I build a couple of turrets in his natural, get another factory. I see a starport, but unfortunately for him, he can't afford to get anything. He tries storming my tanks. My tanks have fried templar (typical redneck cuisine).
Eventually he tries to speed zealot rush the tanks. Too many tanks, vultures and goliaths. Fergit it!
I roll in and take him out.
Lessons learned:
DT vs. Vulture: Vulture
Dragoon vs. Vulture: Dragoon
Tank vs. Dragoon: Tank
Zealot vs. Mine: Mine
This is my now favorite build order. I really look forward to fighting against any protoss player on land. Hehe.
| | Battle Shots! | Deon: 'Well, commander Hearcutter told me to guard this ramp, and thats what I'll do. I wonder if I can slide down this ramp. Looks like it'd be fun. Whee!'
A mine is a terrible thing. This was negotiations between my vultures and his DT. Eventually he saw the wisdom in letting my vultures through.
Well, maybe there wasn't too much wisdom associated with that decision after all.
Hey, Goons! Stop picking on my spider mines!
Don't even THINK of opening that pie-hole of yours, Goonboy!
